I came here for dinner on a Saturday night, and it was the perfect place for a chill hangout with friends. Disclaimer: I don’t like raw oysters, so this review is only on the fried stuff! I ordered the coconut shrimp(as recommended by an employee) and tried some of the shrimp cocktail. The shrimp cocktail comes in a large glass mug filled to the brim with little shrimp soaked in cocktail sauce, avocado, onions, and cilantro. It was pretty good, but I wish the sauce had even more flavor. The coconut shrimp was delicious! It was really heavily battered, but i’m into that, so I enjoyed it. Entrée orders also come with thick-cut fries, which were yum, but very filling.

Try their catfish basket!!! We always eat it when we come to this restaurant. I’ve tried going to Awshucks on Greenville but hate the parking situation. This location always has plenty of seating even on their busiest days. Happy hour always has a lot to offer. Mango margaritas rock!

Oh my GOODNESS!!! Big Shucks on Mockingbird is serving fried soft-shell crabs and they are DYNAMITE!!! Ordered two of ‘em with onion rings last night, but could only manage to eat one; just finished the other for lunch. The price is amazing too!!! Go try ‘em — you won’t be disappointed!!! Please PLEASE keep these jewels on the menu permanently!!!

Decent food, decent prices, not sure about it being the best seafood place in Dallas. I left full, but still not sure what the fuss was about. I had the catfish and shrimp basket. Hubby had catfish. The place was nice and clean, service was good, from the reviews I just expected more.

Fried seafood and a very unassuming atmosphere? Yes please. There will be a line Friday and Saturday nights!

We have been here for the last time. They need a better system during peak hours. People were saving tables before they even ordered. Our food was ready and we had no where to sit. Management didn’t care. Guess they do not need our business they have enough already. We left our order sitting on the counter.

Ruh roh. Hoping tonight was a one off– first time ever my oysters were not fresh and plump here. Tonight, they were a bit dried out and shriveled, disappointing. Catfish and shrimp cocktail were yummy, as usual.

Beach, laid-back vibe. Very, very friendly staff. Spicy food. Fresh and big portions. Price was great compared to other seafood places around town. I loved the honor system. Order and pay when you leave. I will definitely be back but I will request them to hold back on the spices a bit! I am wimpy.

Best seafood joint in Dallas! You walk in and the place looks like a real seafood joint that you’ll see by the beach! You place your order up front, you don’t pay till after your meal before you walk out and you tell them exactly what you ordered(be honest on what you order). We ordered 2 dozen oysters, 2 shrimp cocktails(spicy), and fried catfish basket. Everything tasted terrific! Oysters are fresh and big! Shrimp cocktail had tons of shrimp, they don’t hold back like other places, and good amount of spice. I rarely eat catfish but catfish was very good. Which is what their known for. Frozen flavored margaritas!

I came close to the closing time and I was very happy to find they were still serving crawfish! They were delicious, though, to me nothing matches the crawfish over at AwShucks. The only change I’d like to make is the sauce that comes on the crawfish. A Tabasco like sauce on top of the already seasoned crawfish, I could have done away with that. They could also use a new microphone for their pick up counter. It was extremely difficult to understand what they were saying at times.

Oysters are pretty horrible but the shrimp cocktail totally makes up for it. The place is super packed on the weekend but you can call in your order. I mean the line was 40 people deep when I went yesterday. I would have bailed if my husband didn’t put in the order. The kids don’t like the fries but they did like the chicken fingers.

Oysters, crawfish & hush puppies are all great here, not the original on Greenville but I still really like this place and the food is just as good

This was our first time going to Big Shucks. We’ve always had a great experience at Awshucks(the sister restaurant) so we wanted to check this place out. Big shucks is much bigger and they have tables inside! The food was really good. I ordered 3lbs of crawfish that came with potatoes and corns. You can tell the crawfish is fresh because it’s juicy and plump. My husband ordered their famous shrimp cocktail and it was amazing! He also had the gumbo, I think it was ok. This place is definitely worth checking out, especially if you have a group of friends. It’s a great experience and we will be coming back very soon.

No other place like Aw Shucks and Big Shucks. Been going to them like forever. The whole fried catfish is a must… I get it almost every time I go. Other great items include their shrimp cocktail(get spicy), summer platter(fills up two people), raw oysters and crawfish when its in season. They usually get your order out pretty fast even when there’s a wait. Plus they have an honor system when you pay which is pretty cool.

This is a cool little shack. Great casual place to hang with friends and family. Not the spot u go to be dainty and cute. After 5 minutes into my meal i had both elbows on the table, seasoning under my nails, and juice running down my arms. I definitely felt my primitive instincts come alive. The food is plentiful and comes out quickly. Our crab legs were meaty. The shrimp cocktail is literally a tall glass of baby shrimp with sum juice poured over it. It lacked flavor for me but i enjoyed nonetheless. Our catfish was fried just right… crisp n juicy. I’m used to chunky tartar sauce… their’s was more liquidy like a dressing but i liked it. I’m a patio person… was NOT a fan of this patio. Most of the tables were covered with caked on dust… others with pigeon poop and swarms of pigeons came in when a table left or came. I would def suggest they hv someone tending to the outside and quickly cleaning off the tables at all times. Other than that… good prices… not pretentious… very laid back… lots of food… cool hangout.

«Best seafood in Dallas» needs some qualification here, as this is a pretty good casual seafood shack with fried fish, oysters and some cajun/southern items. Looks like it was converted from another fast food building, with a large patio out front and plenty of parking in back. The logistics are a bit whacky but not too bad. Walk in the entrance past the cash register, then turn right to find the order counter. The menu is posted above and they will call your name to pick up your order. No waitstaff, and no ticket or paperwork — you pay by the«honor system»(there is a sign) by telling the cashier what you ordered on your way out. A bit odd but it seems to work for them. Had the fried oyster po boy, which came with great steak-cut fries that were perfectly cooked. The po boy was good but could have used a couple more oysters for the price. Not really a fresh oyster fan myself so I can’t comment on how those are, but I have heard their ceviche is some of the best in Dallas. It’s an unusual place, just a hair above fast food but with some quality items. A much better option for your quick fried fish fix than LJS but probably not as good as Dodie’s.

I really like this place. Its located in a great area with lots of restaurants. I guess you can call it uptown area. There is always plenty of seatings inside or outside. When you come in, turn to the right and place your order. The prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly. I just ordered the ceviche and a beer to watch the game at the bar. Relaxed easy go atmosphere. After you are done, you go to the register and pay. Pretty much an honor system. No complaints.
