The banh mi here is pretty small and slightly overpriced. Each sandwich is about $ 8 but should run about $ 3 – 5 at authentic places. You need to eat about 1.5 sandwiches to be full. They have deals on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The chicarrones banh mi is not good. There are also scallions which do not taste good. The service is pretty good and helpful.

Not sold on this place yet, but will give it another try. I was disapointed in the soup, not much to it either in substance or quantity. Flavor was ok, but way over did it on the two types of onions.

Yummy! Great Vietnamese place! Modern, trendy, great flavors! Loved, loved, loved it! Very impressed. Expected it to be an overrated new hip trendy place, but WOW let me repeat WOW! Great food, great price, and great proportions. Presentation is also beautiful. The atmosphere is cool and trendy! I wish had room to try more on their menu! So we are heading to the panhandle area in Texas from Florida and made a pit stop in Dallas. I wanted something unique to eat… I knew I could get good Tex mex any day here… so we were aiming and reaching for something different. Florida has some good Phở and Vietnamese places so we decided to try it here. Well to my surprise the place is well kept. It doesn’t look run down or like a mom and pop shop. It’s very modern and trendy. I thought at that point it can’t be good now the food. It looks to pretty too have actually good quality food. I was wrong! So for starters we had the pork meatball poppers and street stall corn cup! Both very delicious and flavored very well. My fave of the two is the corn. Next I had the Bánh Fire bowl. I like spicy stuff so I wanted to try it. It was great in flavor in spice. Not too spicy. I do like extreme spicy foods but this tasted so great I didn’t mind it all not being super spicy. Plenty of protein in it. You can choose your own protein. They are not at all stingy with their food and give big proportions so be prepare to eat! I saw some alcoholic drinks I wish I could have tried too and possible desserts. Unfortunately I didn’t make room :-(. This place is definitely worth checking. All the hype it’s getting, there is a reason for that. Great food, great prices, wonderful and kind staff! I wish we could go back, but people traveling here or locals come check it out! Delicious !

The tofu banh mai was good, though it could have been bigger. $ 7 isn’t a whole lot to pay, so I don’t mi d that much. I’ll be back on a Tuesday for half-priced banh mai si the banh mai seems more appropriately sized. The coconut bar was delicious, though! Great to share with a friend. I’ll be back for sure.

Pros: relatively inexpensive(not compared to authentic bahn mi’s), street corn was really damn good, pork meatball sandwich was good but not great(make sure you get the pâté), friend enjoyed her pork belly sandwich, small patio available, ample parking Cons: the line moves slowly because they only have 1 person taking phone orders and working the register Verdict: i will probably come back at some point to try the pork belly sandwich that my friend had… The street corn is not to be missed

This place. I always love the deals they have on Tuesdays for Half off Banh Mi. Pair that with the free desert when you check-in on Unilocal and you end up getting the most bang for your buck for Vietnamese sandwiches. I end up usually getting the Pork Belly Banh Mi or the Grilled Steak Banh Mi, definitely my top two here. One sandwich is enough, but if you get two on half off Banh Mi Tuesdays you will definitely feel full for the next whole day and not be able to sleep. Definitely recommend this place, and I hope to come back maybe at least every month on Tuesdays!

Overall(4.6 stars composite score): Tasty, affordable and delightful. An easy go to any night of the week. Food/Drink(90% 1.5 star total): Drunken noodles. Chewy rice noodles with basil and a super juicy set of beef Chicharrones Banh Mi. Succulent slow roasted pork rinds with a tasty sweet onion aioli. Vietnamese Iced coffee was perfectly sweetened. Even better than traditional Vietnamese because it’s usually way too sweet. Service(100% of 1.5 star total): Shout out to Huy, manager/director of deliciousness. The man knows food and gives service like a boss. Super nice and very hospitable Value(85% of 1 star total): Everything is priced to please. The specials on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday make it even better. Atmosphere(90% of 1 star total): Great use of mixed materials in the dining room. Banh Shop is solid for drinks during their weekly happy hours. They have really affordable half off prices on banh mi sandwiches on Tuesdays and on bowls on Thursdays. Service is usually pretty prompt and friendly. Their pork belly banh mi is talked about quite a bit but I haven’t had the luxury of trying it out. I have tried the KFC(Korean fried chicken) and unfortunately, I’m was not impressed. The batter for the chicken reminded me of the batter used on fish and chips — say what? It lacked the crunchiness that I was hoping to get. They used fresh kimchi which means it wasn’t as fermented as it should be. When it comes to strong flavors, I want the most pungent flavors of them all to go up through my nostrils and take me for a whirl. I’m definitely a fan of their bowls — their glass noodles with lemongrass was delicious and definitely enjoyed all the textures in it. This isn’t the place to get authentic Vietnamese food at all — head to Garland and Richardson for that. However, Banh Shop does a pretty good job at being an Asian fusion joint and it’s right across the street from SMU. Can’t really go wrong. They also have a dope patio.

I loved the drunken noodles! There was a lot of flavor in the meat they used, and I got pork. I just wished they went easy on the oil and put a little more noodles. I also got the banh mi meatball. I would give the sandwich a 5⁄5 the meat was packed with flavor and the pickled veggies just went right with it. I recommend going on a Tuesday of Thursday because that’s when they have half price bowls and sandwiches!

I don’t know why Unilocal is prompting me to write a review for this place — I thought I already had, but here goes(again). This place is located in the heart of college central right off of Greenville Ave. and right across the highway from SMU. There parking seems to be adequate but if you come during a peak time, you could possibly have trouble finding a parking spot. The layout of this place consists of booths, tables with benches, high-top tables with stools and outdoor patio seating all in a beautiful varnished stained wood look. The ambiance is good and the music is even better! As to the food… I’m not familiar with authentic Vietnamese cuisine but for my taste, I thought it was excellent! I’ve ordered the chicken Bahn sandwich and it is delicious and filling. I’ve also tried several of their«bowl» creations and have never been disappointed.(The Fire Bowl is my favorite). Their pad thai noodles are also delicious. On Tuesday’s and Thursday’s they have half-priced bowls and sandwiches(check with restaurant to see which is offered when). Also, every time I’ve been here, the manager will come around and check to see if everything is to our liking. Nice touch. Finally, if you check in on Unilocal, you get a free dessert! Sweet!

I have to be honest when I say that I kept my standards pretty low. But I was pleasantly surprised how the taste was similar to a real banh mi and how great the quality was. I tried the pork meatball banh mi and the meatball had really good flavor and wasn’t dry. The bread was perfectly toasted and all the veggies were fresh. BF tried the blazing noodles and just to warn you it’s definitely the spiciest dish on the menu. Just a few bites in and I started getting a stomachache from the spice. We also tried the street corn and BF didn’t like it saying there was too much sauce. He thought it was going to be like elote. Lol I agreed with him that there could have been less of that sauce. I wouldn’t mind coming back if I was in the area again but definetely wouldn’t go out the way for it.

i love love love the banh shop! Since landing in Dallas, i’ve been looking for a place where i can get a great banh mi at a good price and i finally found it. They have an awesome selection of sandwiches to choose from here. They also do bowls that are very good. TIP– try the steak, so delicious and juicy. some of the best food in Dallas in my opinion.

Unilocalers crave good food at a great price. This spot satisfies that need! We had chicken noodle soup and the drunken noodles. The soup was very flavorful, and had a whole boneless chicken breast in it. These drunken noodles were some of the best I’ve had. I ordered it with tofu, and even the tofu had picked up all of that sweet, spicy drunken sauce. The veggies in the dishes were nice and crisp. The prices are great here, so I’ll definitely be back. Check in with the Unilocal app and get a free soup shot or dessert. Of course, I opted for the coconut bar, which was loaded with chocolate chips. It reminded me of that classic dessert, magic cookie bar. I’m a fan

Don’t get me wrong. The sandwich I ordered was good, coconut chicken breast(no coconut glaze). However, it was not $ 6.75(approximately) good. The going price of these Vietnamese sandwiches range from $ 3.50 to $ 4.50 at any Vietnamese shop, café, restaurant serving these sandwiches. So, as you can see, $ 6.75 is extreme. Now, if the sandwich tasted exceptionally better, or was paired with iced coffee or some boba, I can see $ 6.75. I would come back to try their other dishes because they are comparable in price. However, I would not order another sandwich for $ 6.75. I am not frugal, by no means. I also don’t pay twice as much for something when I know I can get the same thing somewhere else for half the cost.

The food here is amazing, and the staff take a real interest in making sure that everything is up to your expectations. Everyone is super nice and seems to genuinely care whether you’re enjoying your meal. I’ve had most of the sandwiches on the menu(pork belly is my favorite) and several appetizers, and everything I’ve tried has been fantastic. The portions on the appetizers are on the small side, but that makes sense to me, as I wouldn’t want to fill up on just the appetizers. Unlike most other restaurants, these guys price the small appetizers appropriately($ 2– $ 3), so you can actually order a couple different ones for a total of about $ 5, and still have room for your sandwich. As an added bonus, oftentimes when Torchy’s(across the street) has a line out the door around dinner time, this place is almost empty, and you can actually eat food that’s just as good(albeit different) without waiting a freaking hour to place your order. Long story short: Just go. You’ll be glad you did.

I had seen the controversy with this place regarding the flag situation and commend them on their actions, so wanted to check it out. We came on a Monday for lunch and there was a good crowd there. You enter and are instantly in line. You can get a paper menu as you may be too far to see the main menu. You order and then get a number, everything is self serve after that. We sat outside on the patio since it was nice out. They brought us our food pretty quickly. I had the grilled steak banh mi. It was really good, and the ingredients were definitely top notch. But for the price you pay, I would rather go to one of the Vietnamese places in Richardson and pay $ 2-$ 3 per sandwich. Obviously, if you are in the area, this place is a good alternative, and offers a great variety of dishes on the menu.

The first time we came here we were blown away. Second time was today and I was really bummed out that it fell very short of my expectations. It’s been about 3 hours, and I’m burping up nasty aftertaste from the corn cup. Pro: — Good Vietnamese coffee — Cute interior Con: — Corn cup was oily and did not have that smokey, grilled flavor that we had the first time. Whatever sauce was used it has me burping up the taste a couple hours later. — Spring rolls were bland. — Pork meatball bahn mi(which for the most part was bland) although visually it looks like that it would be full of flavor. Bottom-line is that this place had me wishing for the authentic bahn mi that you can get for $ 2 in Garland. Vietnamese flavors have been washed down to accommodate general tastes.

But for you self proclaimed Unilocal critics that live and die by reviews and don’t just venture out on your own with out checking the reviews or stars. This place pleases both! Delicious bowls and sandwiches. Don’t need detail out the menu, your smart look up the menu yourself. Two words for you CHEAP&GOOD¡¡¡ MmmmKay!!!

Today’s PSA is brought to you my very upset stomach/potential food poisoning. Today my fiancé and I tried the Bahn Shop and decided to split a sandwich. We ordered the pork belly, but we were given a pork meatball. The pork meatball smelt bad and tasted funny. Now we are feeling horrible. I feel nauseous and my GI track is working, which is really painful. Unfortunately this isn’t our only complaint. When our original order came out, it seemed like the meat wasn’t actually thin sliced pork belly. This type of meat had a funny smell too, but not as bad as the pork meatball. It left a weird residue on my tongue that I can’t quite explain. Do not eat at this place!!! Your GI system will thank me.

Friendly vibe going on in this place. Even the patrons behind me were easy to chat up. I decided to make it rain; I ordered a bowl *and* a bahn mi(thanks to the half price bowls on thur night special). The Morning Street Rice Bowl was tasty and topped with a fried egg. I did ask for extra pesto because initially it was a tad dry. The bowl had a very strong garlicky taste, and it was spicy. The pork was minced, and I thought the bowl could use either more meat, or move veggies Overall it was a good bowl(I was torn between this and the lemongrass noodles; unfortunately they were out of drunken noodles)…and I’d order the bowl again. The Bahn Mi was tasty too… a tad dry… but nothing a little hoisin couldn’t fix. The staff were so nice… love them. Just a cool vibe all around. The restaurant’s patio looked very inviting… like a real gem of a place to relax and have a margarita in the spring/summer. Give them a whirl; tasty eats at wallet-friendly prices.

The staff are nice and the décor in the restaurant is really cool but if you’re looking for authentic Vietnamese food this is not the place. I’ve had their chicken soup shot and the broth didn’t have those deep flavors im used when eating phở. I also had their chicken and vermicelli dish. I forget the name but it was kind of spicy but flavors were lacking. Now their meatball sandwich is why I will keep coming back to this place. If you go definitely get the meatball sandwich!

YUM! I really do like this place. I had the chance to try them when they threw a great Unilocal Elite Event, but I have to say that they’ve kept the momentum going. I am absolutely in love with their Morning Street Rice Bowl which consists of wok-seared minced pork with honey-caramel glaze, red onions, cherry tomatoes, Thai basil and cucumber; with jalapeño pesto and over-easy fried egg. ZOMG, I cannot express how seriously delicious this bowl is on top of being very filling. This is my go-to dish for a flavorful, fast lunch, and it is only $ 5.50! If you have time, be sure to hit up their really good beer options and try some of their margaritas. If you aren’t interested in booze, definitely get the Vietnamese coffee. It is so good. So is the ginger beer. I should also remind people to check in on Unilocal to take advantage of getting a free dessert or soup. Crap. Now I need my bowl and they are closed while I am on the other side of town. Now I have the sads.

I love me some Banh Shop! Is it authentic? No, not really. Could you go to Richardson/Garland and get better Vietnamese food? Yeah, probably so. But does it taste good and is it cheap? YES!!! I recently came in here on a Thursday, which is by far the best day to come. On Thursdays, their bowls are half off AND it’s also dollar draft beer night. That my friends is what we call a win-win. If Chipotle had an Asian cousin, this would be it. The interior is very modern and appeals to the college kids from the nearby SMU. Also, just like you probably wouldn’t consider Chipotle authentic Mexican cuisine, it still tastes good and it’s a great value. Bahn Shop operates with a similar concept. The food is Asian in ingredients, but Americanized just enough to appeal to a larger base. Also, it’s not just Vietnamese food here. Although the name is Bahn Shop, the menu consists of Thai options as well. I’ve gotten the Pad Thai as well as a bowl called Banh Fire Bowl. Both were very good, but the menu has too many good looking options before I repeat. Even if you don’t come here on a Thursday, their food is really good and still worth trying. If you’re new to Asian cuisine and just want to see if you like it, this is a great place to try. On that note, it’s also great for introducing some friends, who are more reluctant to trying new types of food, to some Asian flavors.

I almost gave it 5, ambience is awesome, Banh Mi Steak sandwich and pad thai are delicious. There was sooooo much meat in both items! I added shrimp to my chicken pad thai for $ 1 and the shrimp were huge, had more meat than noodles, seriously. The steak was a just a bit tough, but good. Baguettes were delicious. The drink menu confused me a bit, and the desserts were limited to just a Seran wrapped coconut bar, but it was good. The soup shot, was Omg. Outstanding!!! I will def be getting soup next time. It is so flavorful it will knock your socks off! My husband gave it 5 stars, lol.

My last review was 4 stars, but I deleted it and am now giving this place 5 stars! Why? Because they listened to customer suggestions. Last time I came, I kinda complained that there wasn’t enough meat in the sandwiches. This time, I found the Bahn Mi’s to be acceptably meaty. Yay! Last time, there was only pork and chicken. This time, they had beef Bahn Mi on the menu. It was delish. The bread had a nice crust on it and the Bahn Mi was full of flavorful veggies. Also, if you request, they’ll put extra sauce in the sandwich to make the meat juicy. The meat was kinda dry last time, but it was perfectly juicy this time. In addition to the aforementioned improvements, the stuff they did right last time is still top notch on this recent trip. The restaurant is spotlesslly clean. Even the restroom is spotless. The attention to detail in the décor is impeccable. They have sound absorbing padding on the ceiling so that the room won’t be noisy with the echos of everybody’s conversation in the room. They had a huge steel Asian style bathroom sink to lend a bit of authenticity to the restaurant. Finally, the parking lot is well lit so it is safe for single ladies to dine here at night.

Food: So. Good. Bookmarked this place to try a long time ago and finally made it over there yesterday. A bit of spin on the traditional Vietnamese food but the flavors are so on point. Ordered the Banh Fire Bowl with Pork Belly(HIGHLYRECOMMENDTHEPORKBELLY). That glaze… and the jalapeño pesto is no joke. Very intense and the dollop of sour cream only helps a little bit. Not for the weak, but of course, you can eat the bowl without the pesto. Also ordered the coconut chicken banh mi because how can you try out a Vietnamese place without getting banh mi. Really tender chicken! Couldn’t really taste the coconut, but tasted a bit of a smoky flavor which if wasn’t intentional, was good regardless! Service: Very friendly staff who delivers your food after you order at the counter. And they come by afterwards asking if you’ve enjoyed it, which isn’t expected but the way they ask feels like they’ve personally made your food :) and they look so proud when you tell them it tastes great. Ambiance: For a Friday summer dinner, the place was unexpectedly sparse. But I have no doubt that during the school year, the restaurant is very popular because of the deliciousness of the food and its attached price tag. Relaxed environment with nice wooden furniture and table lighting. Looking forward to returning in the fall to take advantage of the outdoor porch!

Banh mi sandwiches from here have become my Tuesday lunch staple(when they are 50% off all day)! The banh mi($ 7-$ 8/each at regular price) are 2x more expensive than those from more traditional Vietnamese bakeries, but they contain more meat and have a more Asian-American fusion taste. Proteins: After trying nearly all of the proteins on the menu, I”ve found that most of them are pretty tasty. Pork belly — favorite; crispy and flavorful Meatballs(both chicken and pork) — quite sweet and may not be everyone’s cup of tea Steak — tender and juicy Coconut chicken — disappointing, a bit dry and didn’t get much coconut flavor Tofu — a-ok; tasted almost like meat(which is a good thing for a carnivore like me) Soups/sides: Viet-style chicken soup: meh; it doesn’t taste like authentic phở and is quite lemony; free with Unilocal check-in so worth a shot(pun intended) Peanut slaw — not a stand-out and wouldn’t order again Corn cup — Asian-fusion interpretation of elote; does not compare to Fuel City but is pretty good; also quite citrusy Banh fire bowl — very good flavor-wise, but not as spicy was hoping for and portions seemed a bit small for the price. Went with a friend once on a hungry day, and we were actually able to eat 2 of them each. Bottom Line: Definitely try this place out on a Tuesday! Great for Asian fusion but shouldn’t be compared to traditional Viet places

First off, we walked in through the exit. And felt pretty stupid, obviously we have never been here before. So the manager David saw we where pretty confused browsing through the menu, he talked us over it and took time to explain what was what. David takes pride, and is very enthusiastic about what he does. That made our experience so much better. I came in feeling adventurous, I ordered the pork belly bánh mi, which I usually never ever eat red meat. I was afraid I wasn’t going to be too crazy about it. But wow it was delicious! We also tried the soup shots, which are free with the Unilocal check in. Not only do they look cute, but taste super good. The smell was great, the broth had the perfect amount of ginger hint. I could eat a whole bowl! Next time I will definitely try one of the bowls, they seem pretty popular. What I also loved about this place is that they may be the only restaurant in that area with its own parking space. Nice!

Food is great, and so is the service. I got two items — the fire bowl with chicken and lettuce(instead of rice) was flavorful but I was missing the fire. A heavy dose of sriracha solved that problem. I also got the chicken meatball banh mi. Don’t be surprised when it comes out not in meatball form. I didn’t read the entire description so I was surprised when my sweet taste buds fired away upon the first bite. It tasted good, but I wouldn’t get it again as I prefer my banh mis savory. Down one star because I needed to eat two to be full. The banh mis are half off on Tuesdays, so I’d say 5 stars on Tuesdays and 4 all other days.

Surprisingly, Banh Shop was decent. I went on the wrong day, a Monday, instead of a Tuesday — when banh mis are ½ off apparently! Grilled Steak Banh Mi — peppery & simple. Good, but not fragrant like the grilled meats I’m used to. Pork Belly Banh Mi — very similar to Thit Nuong, which the name seems misleading then. I assume pork belly includes pork skin which wasn’t there. Definitely more flavorful than the steak, yet is not as flavorful as typical banh mi thit nuong bought anywhere else. The meat was grilled and had a wonderful smoky taste to it, but the ingredients in the banh mi wasn’t as fragrant as Viet banh mi. The #1 reason to me might be because of the mayo. Viet mayo is so bomb compared to the white mayo they use. Corn Cup(spicy) — meh. It’s similar to Viet corn in one way I don’t like — the kernels aren’t sweet. I was hoping it would be more like elote I’m used to at taco stands. Not sure if the lack of sweetness is intentional or not. The jalapeños used in the dish along with the spicy sriracha like sauce definitely gave it a kick though! Loved this aspect! It was semi sour — and I think it’s due to lime juice. I wish they gave a lime on the side instead — I don’t like lime in my food. Vietnamese Iced Coffee — strong, bold coffee taste, but too diluted/watery. Good Vietnamese coffee has some thickness to it, due to condense milk. Wouldn’t order again. Overall, decent but very overpriced if I wanted banh mi. Banh mi is usually $ 3 – 4 for us, so paying ~$ 7 sounds ridiculous. But since I found out it’s ½ price on Tuesday, I’m still intrigued to come back and try other types! The price is very reasonable though if you compare it to Chipotle/Vertskebap. So excited to see a potential Viet chain restaurant owned by Taco Bell group to potentially spread across the nation!
