High expectations created by several positive reviews and word of mouth were not met by this dining experience. We were a party of eight which should not present a challenge to a competent, well run restaurant. The drink service and drinks were fine, nothing noteworthy of mention. After ordering our meals, the soup and salad made it’s way out shortly. The Cesar was good, as was the soup of the day. The soup would have been fantastic if was served hot. After the soup and salads were finished, there was a 35 minute wait for our meals. Half of our party was served, the other half had to wait an additional ten minutes. I was very surprised by this failure, considering the perceived sophistication of the menu, backed up by reviews. Several different entres were ordered with several different results. The fettuccine alfredo was average, a bit on the garlicy side. The prime rib had very little taste, and was served almost cold. All baked potatoes were cold, and the vegetables(Brussels sprouts) were, and I’ve given this word some thought, mushy. The captain’s plate provided a nice array of fried seafood, with competently prepared scallops and shrimp. The seafood linguine was above average, a small portion, and like the Captain’s plate, contained nice scallops. The biggest disappointment was the filet mignon, which was ordered medium rare, served closer to medium well, lacked flavor and was very tough. The dinner service was awful. In addition to half the orders making it to the table at different times, we had to ask several times for forks(for two people), butter, and au jus that never made it to the table. We were never offered coffee and dessert. A complaint was made to our server(at several points), but he was argumentative and did nothing. Not sure if he communicated this to the manager because we never saw him or her. Perhaps Baldwin’s had an «off night», which happens, but when it does, most restaurants(regardless of the star rating) usually communicate with the patrons and at least apologize, and perhaps offer a discount. At this point, a recommendation and return trip to Baldwin’s is very unlikely.
