So you’re a wine connoisseur with an eye out for a new spot, are you? Gladly gratify your thirst for Grenache at Ari’s Wine Bistro, located in Travis Walk, in the space formerly occupied by Il Sole. Akin to neighbors Château Wine Market and Bodega Bar, Ari’s is but a short distance from its siblings, which are nicely nestled downstairs. With its divine debut last weekend, Ari’s is primed and ready to provide your bunch with brilliant bottle service. Choose a stellar selection from the register of reds, whites, and bubblies and muse over the bistro’s multitude of menu items, adjacent to the wine list. Start with cast iron cornbread with jalapeño and honey, or try the ginger marinated calamari, served over a chiffonade of spinach and drizzled with Lemon Buerre Blanc. Chances are you’ll also love the house cured Gravlox Gran-Marnier and Genoa Salami, aptly accompanied by crusty bread, roasted red peppers, and Aioli. Looking for a light bite? Cheese plates will perfectly complement that fab Cab. Ari’s offers artisan selections such as Purple Haze, a fine goat cheese with lavender and fennel pollen, plus local picks such as Deep Ellum Blue and Dallas Mozzarella, which are served alongside crostini, dried fruit compote, and an olive and caper mix. Get your daily dose of greens with the Tuna Tataki Salad, which combines rare seared tuna loin with shaved asparagus, macadamia nuts, and blueberry gastrique. Magnifique! Carnivores will covet the hand-cut steaks, such as the chateaubriand or filet mignon prepared Au Poivre, Oscar, or with a Roquefort Crust. Executive chef Craig Murphy utilizes highly creative culinary methods in the style of French cooking. He personally suggests sinking your teeth into the«Faux Burger,» an 8 oz. seared tenderloin blended masterfully with Ribeye and Pancetta pâté. «It literally melts in the mouth,» says Murphy. The chef loves witnessing the look on patrons’ faces as they experience the unexpected effect of this work of gastronomic genius. He also recommends the house-cut russet potato chips, served with red onion crème fraiche. The velvety accompaniment is a personal favorite of General Manager Luis La Torre, who declares, «There’s nothing else like it… anywhere.» Its sumptuous surprises such as these that make Ari’s a place to truly adore. What’s more? The practical price points will be music to your Merlot-loving ears. La Torre notes that Ari’s bottle pricing is closer to that of retail Rioja, than a Maître D’s Merlot. So forgo pedestrian selections. Flock to Travis Walk for the bounty of the bistro.
