Classic Japanese restaurant run by Japanese family. They’ve got everything to please anyone as i enjoy their offerings of sushi, and they’ve got the standard teriyaki, softshell crab and even miso butter fish for my father and daughter to enjoy. Turn over can be a little slow its best to either make reservations or come early.

This place is great and in my opinion it is the best japanese restaurant in the area. I always come for the lunch specials and the Teriyaki Salmon is great, Tempura too. The service is really good and I like the vibe of the whole place. Check it out if you’re a fan of Japanese food.

This place reminds me of the old mom and pop places in Torrance or Gardena. The restaurant is pretty small and the patrons are in their golden years. The food is not amazing, but decent. For a weekday dinner I wouldn’t mind coming here since I’m a sucker for Asian food and it’s close to home. However, this place wouldn’t be something that I would be excited to go to or crave. Simple Japanese food is what’s served here and sometimes that’s all you need.

Well if your under 21 and looking for a place to have a drink with your dinner by the time you get your sushi you will be of the drinking age. I ordered a bento box, my mom ordered a sushi dinner and my Dad ordered a sashimi dinner. Not too difficult being we were in a Japanese Restuarant with a Sushi Bar one would think… just sayin’ It wasn’t too too long before we were served our soup and salad which were actually very delish, lettuce was cold and crisp, the soup served hot and very flavorful. Then my dinner arrived a beautiful Bento Box; nice portions of steak and chicken plus great sides. Then like a bad date it all went wrong in one sad sorry kiss. Tic toc tic toc… I started to hear the theme song from Jeopardy as time rolled on. I picked at my beautiful Dinner watching it wither away into deep dark cold slop as I waited for my parents dinners to be served. We asked our waitress as she told us the sushi bar was busy. We looked at her and the 5 empty seats at the Sushi bar. Hmmmm!!! Tic Toc Tic Toc…23 min later their dinners arrived and well… ehhh not worth the $ 83 tab. So if you like to eat in shifts then this is the place for you.

This joint looks like they’ve been open for decades. I didn’t feel like eating sushi and I was looking for something that’s not common in typical Japanese restaurant. Oyster nabe stood out. With $ 13 it had about 10 pieces of oyster. Soup broth and veggies were light and wasn’t very impressive, but oysters tasted fresh and were very meaty good. Reasonably priced, attentive service, but it lacks the atmosphere that I feel comfortable. Plates and utensils are over used and very worn out. Grandpa you need some updates!

This is an old school japanese restaurant. It’s very authentic and really reminds me of my childhood. I had some toro, hamachi, mackeral sushi and appetizers. The sushi was not fresh. I was really surprised because the raw oysters were awesome. If the sushi was fresh, I would have given them a higher rating. I’ll be back but not for the sushi.

Not the best japanese food but not the worst either. Over the years this place has been pretty consistent and when I’m in the mood for some japanese food this place usually does the trick. You won’t find anything spectacular here but if you want some decent japanese food this place is a good place to try. I usually order the tempura and beef teriyaki combination. There’s something satisfying about eating off a plate that has compartments :-) Clean, consistent and friendly service can be found here.

Stopped by for dinner on a weekday, got seated promptly. We ordered nigiri combos with some other appetizers. The service was good, food was delicious, and ambiance is good. It is not an ayce place. Our order of 2 nigiri combos and 2 appetizers totalled to about $ 60. Will definitely return again!

Another good dining experience here. Didn’t have to wait for a table this time. The other 4 people in my party got the butterfish combo with California roll or sashimi. I opted for the Saba dinner instead. Saba was sizable and perfectly broiled. I loved the detail in scoring on the fish(see photo). The kimpira gobo appetizer I ordered was also on point. I’m used to it being premade and chilled so I was a little surprised when it arrived warm. However, it was very tasty and a perfect accompaniment to my Saba dinner. From what I heard from the other people in my party, soft shell crab was good and the salmon sashimi was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Service was still friendly but I would’ve liked more refills on the hot tea.

I’ve been here twice, but this is one of those places whose review has been looming in my head for the past couple months. I’ll preface this by saying my 90-something year old grandma loves this place and their lunch deals are definitely a staple for her when she’s able to make it here. What I like here: –Their soft shell crab is soft in texture, lightly battered, and definitely worth trying. Get it as part of a combo set, rather than a sushi roll. –Chirashi bowls are good, but it seems like they give less content and bang for your buck compared to nearby places(e.g., Sango Sushi in Los Alamitos). –My mom really likes their Butterfish, which you can also order in a combo set. It’s not too salty, super soft, and really tastes buttery. –The glass cups that their green tea comes in is really unique and cool because it shows illustrations of what different fish look like in the ocean vs. sushi form. What is not so good: –Soft shell crab sushi, as it was not tightly rolled and the pieces were cut unevenly, which resulted in contents falling out mid bite. You don’t really find what you’re looking for in a soft shell crab when you order in a sushi roll from here. –Tea is far from the best I’ve had, but then again I’m kind of a tea snob. That being said, I do expect Japanese restaurants to serve strong and kind of tart?(for lack of better word) –On a Thursday evening, they had a few customers filing in, but definitely not what one would expect for a typical, busy restaurant. –Kind of have to flag down a waitress to get your tea refilled, etc. Sure, I’m a heavy liquid drinker during meals but I do expect to not have to wait very long for refills. Overall, I think dishes here are a hit or miss in terms of quality and bang for your buck. Listen to my advice under«what I like“and you’ll be good.

This is my favorite restaurant! The food is so delicious and authentic! I love how fresh and beautiful their cuts of sashimi are… They literally melt in your mouth. I love how their rolls are covered in fresh fish. I appreciate that they didn’t follow the trend of over the top fusion rolls, because it’s hard to find real quality these days. Harima is amazing!

In search of soft shell crab, my boys favorite. Yes, yes, he’s only 3 years old, but heck, this boy knows what taste good and what doesn’t. lol And he loves Fried Soft Shell Crabs. lol A quick search brought me here to New Harima Japanese Cuisine. It’s a very nice place. The décor and ambiance was very mellow They have a small sushi bar section(which was packed, a good sign indeed) When I got there, another gentleman was picking up his order as well. Good thing he questioned his bill, because they were going to give him my order. lol Once she realized her mistake, she went to get the gentlemen’s order. The problem, she had me wait. My order was ready, but she had to fix her error and get the guy out. So why did I have to wait again. Here’s the rundown: Tatsuta A-Ge(Fried Marinated Chicken) — It was flavorful and tasty. The only thing, they wrapped it in plastic. When I opened it, it wasn’t crunchy anymore. It was still good, but would have been better if it was crunchy. Salmon Misozuke and Pork Cutlet Dinner– That Salmon Misozuke was so GOOD! I would get that again for sure. It was buttery soft and the miso flavor was outstanding. Delicious. The opposite can be said about the pork cutlet though. It was hard and not very tasty. yuck. Avoid the pork cutlet. Tuna Sashimi and Fried Soft Shell Crab Dinner — The Tuna Sashimi was GREAT. It was thick and cut perfectly. Melts in your mouth goodness. Yum. The soft shell crab as described by my boy. «Why isn’t it crunchy?» Yes, like the Tatsuta A-Ge it was sealed in the to go container. Any crunchiness was erased by the condensation from the heat of the food and rendered it soggy. It was still very good. Except for a couple of pieces(mama & papa’s share) The Boy finished everything. Didn’t I say, he love fried soft shell crab. lol Both the dinners came with Potato Salad(very good), Choice of soup or salad, we got the salad(very good), Some raw vegetable(carrots, broccoli & celery, meh), bean sprout salad(okay), Pickled cucumber(okay) and a piece of Orange. Parking was plentiful. The service was okay, but if you plan on getting any fried items, I suggest eating it at the restaurant. If you get it as a take out, it will not be crunchy. Mission complete, Soft shell crab was a hit for the boy(even though it wasn’t crunchy) lol. From the sampling I got, the food was good, the sashimi was great. I believe I’ll be ordering more sushi items in the future here. Try them out yourself and decide.

I only came here because Echizen had an hour wait and I wanted something similar in the nearby area. Well, it wasn’t quite the same but this place does have a rather diverse menu. Menu is split between sushi and other dinner items like teriyaki, udon. soba noodles, cooked fish, and lots of appetizers. There’s a sushi bar by the entrance. I didn’t think anything was bad but nothing really stood out either. Nigiri Combination B(8 pieces nigiri, cucumber roll, and eggs) wasn’t a bad deal at $ 17 but most of the items tasted average with the exception of salmon which was pretty good. Soba noodles were fine but it’s kind of hard to mess up on something this simple. I prefer the one at Echizen better because it comes in a broth rather than having the broth as a dipping sauce on the side. There are several soba noodles here and I can’t remember the exact name. I think it was Ten Zaru Soba. It’s the one that comes with tempura. Two Combination Dinner items come with miso soup or salad, and rice. There are 26 different options under this section. I went with Saba Shioyaki and Tuna Sashimi. It was little weird eating cooked fish and raw fish at the same time. I actually hate having cooked fish at sushi places so I’m not sure why I even ordered this. Saba shioyaki tasted very fishy. I like raw mackerel but in cooked version, it tasted horrible. With such a diverse menu, I may not have ordered the right stuff, but at the same time, I’m always weary of Japanese restaurants that try to do much. I prefer Japanese restaurants that specialize in one or two items. For people with kids, this restaurant doesn’t have any wooden high chairs. It just has some dinky clip on chair that attaches to the table but it’s kind of hard to use. It doesn’t seem kid friendly. Overall, I’m just not feeling it for this place and probably won’t return.

I have been to Harima many times during dinner service and just haven’t had the chance to Unilocal them. This is a lil gem in Cypress. The service is very good here. The waitresses here are so nice and happy. I have had the: Chicken Katsu, Fried Oyster, Raw Oysters on the half shell, Saba Yaki, and Yellow Tail Belly Sashimi. The food here is amazing!!! The price is decent too. Example: The saba is around $ 11, comes with 2 big pieces w/rice, salad, and potato salad,. The raw oysters are ginormous and is $ 6 for 3 oysters the size of your hand. This restaurant does not disappoint. If you are looking for a great Japanese restaurant with great food, nice service, and happy waitresses… This is the place to go!!! I highly recommend this place!!!

Hands down the best sushi joint in my area. And I’ve tried them all. I usually have to drive out to LA or Irvine area to get my sushi fix(I don’t consider Kabuki or most Korean owned places LEGIT sushi– I guess I may be a bit of a sushi snob), but not anymoooorrrre. First of all, the fish here is super fresh. I’ve tried their jumbo scallop(MYFAVE), sweet shrimp, striped bass, hamachi, salmon, and a slew of others. I usually don’t order jumbo scallop unless I know the place I’m eating at is legit. It did not disappoint. Soft, sweet, fluffy. Drooling now… I usually don’t order cooked fish, but my friend told me I had to try the butter fish. I am so happy she made me try it because it is exactly as you would imagine. I mean, I couldn’t believe it wasn’t butter. Forreals, go try it.

2nd time at this place. Last time was years ago. Couple things, service was outstanding. Didn’t have to wait long for anything… seat, food or beverages. Food was very good. Had the chicken teriyaki with tempura combo and added spicy tuna roll for like $ 5 more. I do recommend this place. Authentic Japanese not Japanese owned by Korean. Nothing against Korean but I go to Korean BBQ if I want Korean food. I think you get my point.

They moved from one side of the shopping complex to the other. Strangly, the restaurant looks the same. I ordered the chicken teriyaki plate. Not bad… although the little plop of potato salad should be more chunky just to make me feel confident that it was made from real potatoes. The restaurant is clean and organized. The waitresses were friendly. One thing I have to say is that the sushi dude needs to move a little faster. There were a few couples eating lunch and he seemed to take forever to make my 2 takeout rolls. 3 of us were standing there in the waiting area but he didn’t have a sense of urgency — something he should have had because we already had our other meals and they were getting cold! I’m not sure if I’d sit at the sushi bar at rush hour. The lunch or dinner would take forever given the way he was moving when the restaurant was relatively empty.

From the looks of it, this restaurant is authentically Japanese owned. I’ve been here twice and got the same waitress twice. She always looks sad and got a little irritated by our questions about the menu. Service was unbearably slow even though they were not busy. I’ve ordered the Nabe hotpot both times because it seemed like the most bang for its buck. It comes with a variety of seafood and vegetables in a rich broth. The tuna in it was not very tender but the other fish were. They put wayyy too much napa and onions in it though, probably to fill up the dish. This place is a bit pricier than other Japanese restaurants like Geko Tei, with the average running more than $ 12. Their salad that comes with the order looks pretty unappetizing and didn’t taste all that great. My mom got a combination that came in a bento and she felt that their ingredients were fresher compared to other places. The silver roll was really good in everyone’s opinion. My mom took her friend back here for lunch another time and ordered the Yellowtail collar but she thought it was dry and not flavorful compared to Echizen’s. I just read Mike F.‘s review of this place and I would reconsider coming back here because they use MSG. You never know what they really put in your food when you eat out so I guess it’s always best eating at home.
