I love neighborhood business and I try to cut some slack, but this place was just too much. We went in and ordered two cheesesteaks, one fry and one onion rings. We grimley watched as the fries and onion rings were pulled from a freezer that COULDNOTCLOSE. This freezer had three inches of frost built up over-flowing from inside. The poor guy that worked there then chunked our frozen funkiness in the grease and started on the dry, lame cheese steak sandwiches. Oh… the frozen krinkle fries were funky and the Frozo-rings where not only funky, but floppy and tasted of olé funky freezer. Did I mention the brick used to hold up the condiment cabinet? I’m sorry, but this place was the worst.

So far the best cheese steak in houston. I did not see whiz as a toping that was the only flaw. Place was clean and the chef was very nice.

Got carry out here tonight. My 8 mos pregnant wife ate a piece of raw chicken. I called and asked to speak to a mgr and they said no mgr was on duty. Then blamed it on «new brand» of chicken they ordered. Then said well hope she is OK, have a good night… Be careful folks… my mother in law said it looked like there were high school kids only there. The fact that they said there was no MOD scares me. Is there a way to select 0 stars?

Dave’s is the best Philly cheesesteak in Houston! He is from Philadelphia and knows how to do it right. I am a local who lives in the Fairfield subdivision where his restaurant is located. Try the Schmidter for something a little different(cross between cheesesteak and Reuben). The Greek salad, Fairfield burger and onion rings are pretty awesome too! Hard to go wrong with anything on the menu and prices are very reasonable.

I come here frequently to get away from the typical chain restaurants. The food is good however its a bit overpriced. It generally costs me 10 – 11 bucks every time for a sandwich fries and a drink. Overall irecommend it

Okay, so I read about this place in the paper and was super stoked because of the attention to detail that this place describes(example, Dave says it took him 6 months to find the perfect roll for his hoagies). So after contemplating, we drove from spring(about 15 miles out of the way) and showed up around 12:15pm on a Sunday. It was kind of packed, but we were willing to wait. I noticed that you can see the grill cooking your food from the counter and boy am I glad I did. I could see that the«Philly steaks» that they were using were frozen and that is when we knew we wouldn’t be eating here. I was in the AF for 4 years and they use to cook the same frozen Philly Steak meat(you can buy it here: ). I’ve never been to PA but I have been to SLC and gone to Moochies Meatball(it was on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives on Foodnetwork) and Moochies servers up a real Philly, the ribeye meat is cut super thin and they serve it on a beautiful roll with Cheese Wiz. I have yet to find a place in Houston or surrounding area that serve the real deal. Thanks for getting my hopes up Dave! Best of luck to you though. Link to Triple D episode:

My husband and I gave Dave’s a try after reading reviews here on Unilocal. He loved his cheesesteak hoagie and onion rings and I had a cheeseburger and seasoned fries, which were good but not great. We will try other items here again. Place was clean, workers and owners were nice. We like locally owned businesses and will continue to support them.

I love eating at Dave’s Hoagie House. The food is always fresh and tastes great. Everyone in my family has their favorite. My husband loves the Philly Cheesesteak, I love the vegetarian, and my Mom and Sister love the Fries. I really love the new seasoned fries that they have but my Mom prefers the crinkle cut fries and she says they taste just like the fries at burger places when she was a kid. I really like their take in the vegetarian sandwich having the fried mushroom. Sometimes Boca or Blackbean burgers can get boring and it is good to have another flavorful veggie choice. The tomatoes, lettuce, and onions are always fresh and it has always been a pleasant place to visit.

I met some friend who live in Fairfield at this place for dinner. I can say I was pleasantly surprised. It is in a little strip center next to a Nestle Tollhouse store. From it’s looks, you don’t expect much but once inside, you know it is going to be more than that. It has a simple, order from a restaurant supply catalog look, but the employees are friendly. I had the cheesesteak and it was much better than what I’ve had at the chain philly places. The thing I liked the best is that when I asked them to put my daughter’s onions on my sandwich, they didn’t look at me like I was crazy – they got it. I haven’t been enough to know Dave but I like the idea that there is actually a Dave there. I will definitely go back again and try a burger and ask for Dave!

This is a welcomed, non-chain, sight in the area as far as sandwich shops go. I was excited about their Philly’s, but as usual(outside of Philadelphia), not as excited after sampling them. I hit this place late Saturday night with my siblings, so we were able to sample three different sandwiches. Good times! The regular size sandwiches are beasts! Unless you haven’t eaten for days, the smaller sandwiches should suffice. I went with the original Philly. It looks nice and threatening when it comes out, like maybe it will eat you! Aggressive eating is definitely in order. I got to the task and thought it was o.k. The meat was kind of dry on my Philly. I couldn’t help thinking Whiz, would shove this sandwich up a star possibly. I think that a lot and have always wondered why only one sandwich shop in Houston, that I know of, is the only one that realizes Whiz is what completes a Philly. Whiz also makes the world go round! My brother went with the Schmidter. Classic name, but not a home run. More like a double. It’s a Philly with a «secret» ingredient. Heavy stuff no? I expected it to be delivered in a nondescript suit-case, but no – just a tray. Foiled again! Does pastrami really count as a secret ingredient? I was hoping for a secret sauce, or maybe they hide the Whiz and save it for old Schmidty – but no, it’s pastrami. The secret is out! Not too shabby though. Probably lethal to the heart. My sister, being of smaller appetite, ordered a pulled-pork sandwich. Smoky or tangy are the options. She went with smoky. It’s a decent sandwich, but not so smoky. Dave’s is a cool joint. The ambiance is what’s expected of a strip-center place, but their menu is pretty exciting sandwich-wise – so I’m sure we’ll be back. We’ll probably skip the original Philly though. The Schmidty, however, is another animal.

I’ve only had the sandwiches here, so I cannot remark on their burgers or sides. Just like Mekong Grill has the perfect French baguette for its Vietnamese sandwiches and Mama’s Cajun has the perfect Louisiana French bread for their poboys, Dave’s Hoagie House has the perfect hoagie roll for a cheesesteak. The roll is squishy but robust enough to not fall apart when it is full of chopped beef and sweet onions. The crust is thin but not flaky, and you have to tear it a bit when you take a bite, which is satisfying. The beef is lean, well seasoned, and could even stand to be greasier. Some of it will fall out as you eat it, so you should strategize your last few bites to leave enough bread for scooping up whatever fillings have fallen onto your plate. Excellent cheesesteak. Go find out for yourselves before it becomes a Starbucks or something.

I have hit the Father of Philly Cheesesteaks. I found this little hideaway on . Spend $ 20, get $ 10 off. They had sammiches, and I was intrigued. As a Philly Cheesesteak connoisseur, I had to try them all before I could properly evaluate them all. The environment at Dave’s is warm and inviting. In the short time that I was there, 100% of the other patrons called Dave by name and chit chatted. It’s nice to see that Dave’s a winner with the locals. I ordered a large Philly Cheesesteak, Fries, and a Ruben Sammich. I’m not exagerrating here: The large philly was as big as my calves. As I’m a skater, I’ve been told that I have«BIG legs.» So yes, this was a big as a skater’s legs sized sammich. The meat was tender, flavorful, and juicy. The bread was deliciousy soft and soaked up all the meat juices. I died and went to Philly Heaven. Try it with the hot relish. Yum! The fries were fries. A little cold. I came here for the Cheesesteak, not for the fries. I had some of the Ruben, but seeing how I have little expertise in Rubens, I gave it to my sister for her assessment. 5 stars she says. Dave also gave me a sample of his chicken salad. Pretty yummy stuff. It had a very home made taste like your grandma made it flavor. But Dave actually made it. Though he doesn’t look like a grandma, he nailed the chicken salad. There’s some secret ingredients in it, but one of the not so secret(as you can see them) are toasted almonds. I LOVE almonds. I would come back to Dave’s, repeatedly if my metabolism could take that kind of abuse. The large cheesesteak is very reasonably priced at 10.75. It easily makes 2 or more meals. I could eat it in one sitting, but my hips don’t need that kind of abuse either. Dave’s Philly Cheesesteak sits at the top of my list of Best Original Cheesesteak. YUM-ME! *Disclaimer: I have eaten Philly Cheesesteaks in Phillidelphia wit da cheez whiz. I’ve eaten cheesesteaks all over US. These are the best. These are what Dave calls Philly suburbia cheesesteak.
