Shame on me !!! I am a native and had never heard of this place until tonite. So glad my friend suggested this hidden gem and I am in lust foodie heaven. A true throwback to the days when quality food and customer service went hand in hand. As soon as we enter, this beautiful woman named Sophie greeted us with a smile and warm bantering. Not only is the menu amazing but who serves scallops(my FAV) as an appetizer ??? Immediate bonus points all day, every day as they were tasty, non greasy and a generous size. Now on to the meal: I had the lamb chops and my friend had the Porterhouse steak. OMG — I enjoy lamb chops and am soooooooooooo tired of people not serving it with mint jelly or some version of mint jelly. But not at Petrelli’s, there is nothing fake about this place, REAL food for REAL people. My friend RAVED about his Porterhouse and it was so large, he took some home for Part 2. How wonderful to have a delightful food experience and everything from the tasty veggies to the baked potato was on point !!! Hell, I know we live in a world in which carbs are the devil, but every now and again, a gal needs it and this potato was of an actual size and not too big. Oops, what is life without dessert and especially when it is Rainbow Sherbert, served in a real stainless steel bowl which means it stays colder longer. Oh YES — such the happy foodie I am and am now a new customer and will be a regular one as well. OLDSKOOLROCKS !!! –Thanks Petrelli’s ;-) :-) :-)

One of the few places around where you can get yourself some good olé, lip smackin’ beef bbq ribs. Super tender meat that falls off the bone. The corn on the cob was exceptionally sweet and juicy.

I was a frequent flyer at this place and never was disappointed with their libations and food. However, I was disappointed last night. I came in with the intention of having an apple Martini and encountered the news that the owner passed away two years ago. it affected me. He was the guy that went around greeting his customers, and that, in my opinion was/is customer service. Nevertheless, I composed myself and noticed that at the bar they were offering happy hour from 3 to 6… so awesome. They offer you $ 5 hot plates that range from hot wings, meatballs, mozzarella sticks and they were all good and the sauce that accompanied them was hot and so Italian(I can get away with that because I was in Roma). Guys and gals, if you are in the local commuting area stop by and check out the scene from 3 to 6. Dont mind the old patrons, they know of good stuff, but won’t tell you.

I live down the street and I came back to try another cut of steak. I got the filet mignon this time. It was amazing! Perfect crust and cooked just right. I met the bartender Tony tonight and he was a delight. Very charming and polite. Also ran into the owner and her mom? Not sure who the older lady was but both were extremely friendly. Not at all how other reviews describe them. Will come again!

Best petit filet mignon I have eaten in ages. Furthermore, great pricing in that the steak includes salad, soup and a side of grilled vegetables. Plenty of well lit, off-street parking.

If you’re looking for a perfectly cooked steak and an old school vibe without breaking the bank Petrellis is the spot for you! We went on New Year’s Eve and had the Filet Mignon and the Rib-eye steak dinners. All I can say is perfection, I could not imagine a better steak. It’s a no nonsense old time steakhouse. I would recommend sitting in the bar area for the full experience. P. S. Get the onion rings… You’re welcome.

Old school restaurant since 1931. We didn’t want to sit in traffic so we stopped by here after a seminar to enjoy a steak dinner. We ordered the George’s special for two which included steak, baked potato, cream corn, and french onion soup. Within 15 minutes we had our food and it was all delicious, the service was great too, they never forgot about us. The bill came out to $ 63 for the both of us before tip, we did not order any drinks.

This was my second trip to Petrelli’s and it was great. The décor on the inside might need a bit of updating, but the hostess was lovely, the waiter was attentive, and more importantly the food was great. Last time I went I had the filet mignon, this time I shared the Prime Rib Special for Two. The special included a soup, a salad, and the prime rib with a side of creamed corn and a fully, loaded baked potato. The meal for two was under $ 60, with the total after drinks coming out to be about $ 80. I’ve heard the burgers here are amazing, so next time I’ll have to give it a try.

This has to be the worst place ever! I never write reviews on anything because I feel people get discouraged of any little bad thing! I want people to have their own perception on what they think about it and not over what people say!!! I came here for lunch thinking that it was going to be an amazing place to eat, since two of my family members liked the food. Long story short we were seated upon walk in and shortly after came our waitress… she took our order, then came back with our drinks and a shrimp cocktail. the shrimp smelled so bad of fish that I pushed the plate to the edge of the table. The waitress came back and said is there something wrong? I told her that the shrimp smelled really bad and I would rather not eat it! She then told me to try the shrimp and then send it back if you think it is bad! I told her I don’t want to eat the shrimp because it smells, anyone who eats shrimp knows that once it’s starts to smell like fish one or two things could be wrong! That the shrimp is already going bad or it was not cleaned properly!!! why couldn’t she respect the fact that I didn’t want to eat it? She walked away, then came this little old lady that said FIRSTOFFWEDON’T SERVEEXPIREDFOODANDYOUARENOTGOINGTOSITHEREANDSAYOURFOODISEXPIRED!!! WEJUSTGOTOURORDERINTODAYAND I KNOWITISFRESH!!! I look at her like who the hell are you! She was very rude and pushy! After her screaming at us I told my uncle let’s just go somewhere else, as I was trying to get up out of the booth she pushed me back down and said DON’T LEAVEYOUAREGOINGTOSTAYANDEATWHATYOUORDERED! I said no I’m not!!! These people are rude pushy and racist!!! I do not recommend this place to anyone!!! Horrible place!

This place is a few bucks and a little better décor above Sizzler in terms of quality and ambience. Oh it also has a bar. They include the soup, salad, baked spud, bread in your entrée price so it’s not like a Flemings or Mortons in that respect. Nor is the steak. They overlooked my $ 30 ribeye, which pissed me off, but was so hungry I did not want to risk sending it back lest have to wait another 12 minutes. It was a pretty mediocre experience as far as steak houses go. I would not go back, given how many other choices are in the market.

Stepping into George Petrelli’s is like stepping into a time warp. Located in a nice lot at the triangle corners of Sepulveda, Jefferson, and Slauson, they’ve been around for over 80 years, starting in 1931. We called for a reservation, prior to arrival and pulled into the parking lot half expecting it to be full, but there was only a handful of cars. When we entered, there was a really pleasant woman who greeted us. I really loved the greeting, because she was very nice and seemed genuinely happy to see us. They appeared to have two dining areas… one for families with children and the other for couples or adults only, which was located in the bar area. I kind of liked that distinction, as it kept the kids away from the alcohol. It seemed a little old school, but if you think about the age of this restaurant and the era that it came from, it makes sense. I am definitely a beef-eater! I love it! So when I crave a steak, I really want a good one. The problem with this place was that their steak was bland. Even Sizzler seasons their steaks better. I was really disappointed, as I really wanted to love this place, if not for the greeting alone. I definitely walked in expecting to write a 5 star review and instead, it made 3 stars and that’s only because of the impeccable customer service, both by the hostess and our server. That’s why it pains me to write such a review. After reading some of the other reviews, I see that others have experienced the same thing that I have. When you think about it, you realize that back in 1931 and even through the 50s, salt and pepper was it, as far as seasoning goes. So their old-school technique goes with the times. However, I really think that they need to spruce it up a bit. The steak wasn’t nasty, it was just very, very bland. I like flavor, especially on meats. We spent most of the time sharing the salt and pepper shakers. The sides were as good as we expected them to be for veggies and a baked potato. I would try this place again, but I think that I would tell them that I want extra, extra seasoning on my steak, in hopes that there is even a little bit more. The portions were definitely fair and you got a lot of meat for the money. I just wish that I would have enjoyed it more.

There’s plenty of good service and a lot of beef at George Petrelli’s Steak House. Dinner at Petrelli’s represents a trip back in time. The black leather booths and old style menu choices will put you in a time warp back to the late 60’s. If you’re quiet and listen to restaurant conversations, you’ll hear veteran stories or stories of Culver City back in the hay day. As George Petrelli pasted away last year, a charming woman with a great sense of humor(the wife Sophie) will greet you and sit you at your table. She was married to George for 55 years. The restaurant George Petrelli’s was originally Joe Petrelli’s Steak House. George the nephew of Joe continued the business that Joe started back in 1931. George Petrelli’s sits on prime Culver City real estate at the intersection of Jefferson and Sepulveda(near Slauson). Fortunately for customers, this place never seems to get too busy. It was easy for us to book a reservation for seven. And there’s plenty of parking in their private lot. If you want to go back in time to the 60’s, this is a place for you. But keep in mind not everything was stuck in the time warp such as the prices. The prices have been updated to the current steakhouse rate. But what kind of places today give you both the salad and soup included with your meal? As a thought, it would be a great promotion to offer a one day special of old day prices on their 85th anniversary. George Petrelli and the restaurant are definitely a part of Culver City’s history. Every respectable Culver City resident has been to Petrelli’s at least once.

Choice steaks and plain good service. This legend of a restaurant is likely as good today as it was when it opened 8 decades ago. Relaxed and casual, the menu offers a variety of options besides just steak… fish and chips, fried chicken and lamb shanks which I hear are quite delicious. We both had steak, I had the rib-eye and he had the Porterhouse, both with baked potatoes and veggies. There’s something nostalgic about those stainless steel condiment servers filled with whipped butter, sour cream and freshly shopped chives that makes me smile every time the waitress presents it for my selection of baked potato toppings(everything please and don’t be shy). And forgive me if the title of «waitress» offends anyone… these ladies have more than earned an upgrade to their role, they are in fact fantastic at what they do, so much so, that if these tenured professionals were replaced by a youngin’ the restaurant just wouldn’t be the same. Reservations are a good idea at the 5&6pm hours, but if you can wait for a 7pm’ish dinner, do that(the seniors arrive a bit early and are usually finished around 6:30pm…one of these days I’ll get some courage and ask a sweet couple to share their memories of Petrelli’s, won’t that be a treat?) Plenty of parking… plenty of cocktails and a decent wine list. Good times.

Its not possible to give this place less than ONESTAR… if I could… they’d get ZERO. I was brought here with a friend on the recommendation of her brother. I’ve seen it in passing numerous times but never knew it was a steakhouse. I even joked that it looked like a mortuary. Walking in I was immediately put off at how dark and empty it was… this should have been my first clue. The hostess(who may have been the owner) was a sweet older lady who had a pleasant nature about herself. She sat us and immediately a waiter took our drink order and brought us bread. Our waiter gave us ample time to mull over the menu and even answered questions and gave insights to different options. I chose the filet mignon at medium with a baked potato and veggies, no soup or salad. After our waiter brought our entrees he informed us that he would be leaving and another server would be appointed. We NEVER saw another waiter after that. I cut into my steak and blood came out. I had an incredibly rare steak on my plate. I could not flag down any wait staff because NOONE seemed to be around. I had to wait about 5 minutes before I spotted the hostess and let her know my steak was raw. She profusely apologized and grabbed a dinner roll plate from the neighboring table and took my steak and told me to keep eating my potato and veggies. =/ After a few moments she brought the steak back with considerable char on both sides… so the apparent remedy to the chef was to throw it back on the grill and burn it. Shaking my head I cut into it and compared it with the first cut of steak I made and it was exactly as I assumed it would be: burned on the outside, raw on the inside. I had to flag her down again and send it back. I told her I wasn’t in the mood for steak anymore… she made the excuse that its because the steak is «too thick». I’m no professional chef but I can certainly tell when a chef has NOBUSINESS preparing steak. I disagreed and asked her to just take it away. She came back and said the chef could«filet» the filet mignon to cook the inside?! Really? Filet a filet mignon? No thanks… I get the bill and they want to charge me $ 20.00 for a baked potato and veggies. $ 18.99 to be exact. She tells me its because they had to throw away a perfectly good steak. Are you kidding? That steak was only«perfectly good» for anyone who might have ordered a completely rare steak! She finally came back with $ 12.00+ for the potato and veggies because I got double veggies in place of my soup and salad. Fine. I cant even begin to mention how offended I was at the lack of quality service after the first waiter left, not to mention how we were never served by the follow-up staff save for a refill on my friend’s drink. I was made to feel as if this was my fault for not accepting a piss poor excuse of a medium steak by a chef who has no idea how to cook a steak. Will NEVER, EVER spend money or time at this place again. For the prices on the menu they need to, at the very least, hire the right guy for the job. FYI, the hostess’ only grip with me was that I commented on writing a review… she said that was unfair… agree to disagree

This is one of those places that you can’t really judge a place by their reviews. This place is an institution in Culver City, and I hadn’t stepped foot in it until it was time to plan my dad’s funeral. We’d been looking for options all over Culver City and Marina del Rey, but we couldn’t find anything that would fit our budget. We even went as far as trying to rent a hall to have it catered, and when you’re already stressed from the formalities of death, you don’t want to think about cleaning up a party or deal with lingerers. Then, remembering the area, I realized that George Petrelli’s was very close to the cemetery. I took a look at their website and found that they would be able to accommodate a large group of diners. So I called and spoke to the owner, Sophie, widow of George Petrelli. She was really sweet and explained their menu options to me. Then I came in person to finalize the menu and make a deposit. Sophie was so sweet and understanding. The pricing per person is really affordable and better than any place around the area. They also have a dedicated banquet room to accommodate up to 100 people. In the end, everyone also LOVED the food. People I know that don’t eat ribs loved the ribs. And we had our own dedicated server(s), who were very friendly and attentive. Overall, it was a great experience with them. This place isn’t modern or trendy, but it’s pretty solid with traditional fare. When you go, say hello to Sophie. She really works her butt off.

Not a big fan. When the salad comes out with the dish plate cold and the salads waterery and wilted I start thinking old school and not fresh. Steak was ok nothing to write home about though and with the price being a bit steep it should have had more talking points.

Petrelli’s is a Culver City stalwart. It’s nice to have a family owned and operated neighborhood steak house. The family and service are always on point. The steaks however need a preparation upgrade. I believe they are cooking meat on a flat top grill so they tend to be rather bland. The last time I came in I asked for a little color on the steak, you know get some carmelization happening. Sure enough it was darker and more zippy. The baked potato w/everything was super. Salad w/blue cheese adequate. Pices are resonable. Décor is starting to get tired. Huge parking lot. As the stars say, this place is A OK, but not quite a fan(of the meat preperation)

I remember dining at George Petrelli’s with my family in the late 80’s and early 90’s. The restaurant used to be located on the other side of Sepulveda Bl(where Shakeys is currently located.) It has been my father’s favorite restaurant for 40 years. It is known as a steakhouse so obviously they specialize in steaks. Their fillet mignon and porterhouse steaks is to die for! They also make the best pork chop. Thick cuts and always made juicy and tender… Just melts in your mouth! The lamb chops is well seasoned and cooked to perfection. There’s other stuff on the menu like Italian and seafood dishes. When I was a kid, I used to order the spaghetti and meatballs and fried shrimp but with age, taste buds change and we learn to appreciate finer tastes. Prices are a little steep but well worth the meal. Staff is friendly and helpful. Service is one of a kind. They truly treat you like VIPs. Love the restaurant and will come back here again.

This is our go-to when feeling carnivorous. This place has been here since 1931 ! And so have a lot of the servers(joking.) I canNOT give this place less than 3 stars but understand you are coming for prime rib and filet mignon. The lamb shank is also fantastic Do not come for a cool, sexy atmosphere. Expect amazing meat. Period. They originally raised their own cows. Not sure if they still do or not. The bake potatoes are outstanding as well. We’ve been coming for the last 6 years and have seen the bread improve(thank God) and the soups as well. The salad comes with the meal as well as the soup. Make sure you get the dressing on the side or you’ll be sorry. We once sat at the bar. The bartender is far from someone you want to chat with. Very cold. George Petrelli was a permanent fixture at the bar. He always sat in the same stool. He passed away a few months ago :( There are no hipsters here. They close early. Everyone is elderly. We love to roll down our hill and plop ourselves in a booth on the bar side. The place is huge. I never dress up. I usually come in my «fat pants.» We love this place for what it is — a meat eater’s paradise.
