I have never had a bad thing from here! Everything is absolutely delicious(especially the cheddar stuffed and south of the border burgers) and my husband and I always add a mac & cheese melt to split regardless of what we get. The tortellini is well prepared. Very highly recommended!

I was visiting family from out of town and they swear by Phat Phil’s! So I had to give it a chance and it did NOT disappoint! Upon entering we were warmly welcomed even as there was a long line of people waiting to place their orders. Phil’s is quite small so we were planed on take-out. It was small but they had just recently added a couple tables to accommodate about 10 people eating in. The tables had brown butcher paper on them that was changed after each person left. The décor was quite the same-a butcher turned sandwich shop. They have an extensive permanent menu as well as a changing chalkboard menu. They have daily soups and salads as well. I had gotten the spicy beef sandwich. It was amazing! It had the perfect amount of spice to appeal to anyone but included a spicy blend of pickled jalapeños, carrots and banana peppers for those wanting an extra kick. We also got the shrimp po boy and the Ruben. All of which were wiped clean! My only reason for giving 4 stars and not 5 is because it took almost 45 mins to get our lunch. However, they did offer us drinks while we waited and added coleslaw with our order. They had said the beef was being sliced fresh. It was absolutely worth the wait but would of been an issue if in a time crunch.

The Hillbilly Philly was amazing. The brisket was so good it didn’t make no sense! You gotta eat here. Do not try to eat this in a vehicle.

Tried this place tonight. Absolutely loved it! Used to have to go all the way to Chicago for decent B-B-Q, not anymore. Service was great. We ordered the Hillbilly Philly and the Cast Iron Burger. Bill the counter guy brought out some samples of the pulled pork and brisket along with their sauces. The stuff was legit! He’s an Arkansas guy who knows good barbecue. He smokes all the meats and everything is made from scratch. The hamburger was packed with flavor. THICK patty! The sandwich had great flavor. They put a cheezwhiz kind of sauce on the sandwich. Not my favorite but I think that’s the way they do it in Philly(that’s why I’ll take a Chicago Beef over the Philly any day. Lol!) The restaurant is clean and well kept. Barbeque joints always attract good people so the company was great. Loved the experience. We’ll be back.

I am literally still sitting in the dining room here and had to write a review while my boyfriend finishes eating. The atmosphere is great inside. The owner greeted us as we walked in and helped us chose from their awesome menu. I saw the«El Porko» and was sold immediately. It is a chorizo patty + pepper jack cheese + bacon + egg + chipotle ketchup + mayo. Basically all of my favorite things. It was absolutely delicious. Cooked perfectly, and it wasn’t greasy which was pleasantly surprising! I was sad when it was done even tho I was comfortably full. My boyfriend got the«Shrimp Po Boy». It was amazing. The shrimp wasn’t fried which a lot of local places do. They actually don’t even have a frier here which is great. The bread was soft and the ratio was perfect. We also split the roasted potatoes. They tasted like they were homemade and that’s a HUGEBONUS… but better than I could make them, lol. As he’s finishing up his meal I’m already planning on when I can come back and get the«Hillbilly Philly». They smoke their own meats here and I am obsessed with brisket so I cannot wait to try it!!! It’s a must to try out… highly recommended!!! DELICIOUSFOOD!!!

My meal was disappointing. I am use to bbq places running out of food but this was excessive. I ordered a BLT an chicken wings. The bacon was overly salty and the chicken wings were nothing special. The soup was steak and potato, the flavor was good but there was no steak or potato in my bowl. I do not recommend this restaurant.

I have had Phat Phil’s food twice. The first time my husband picked up carry out. He had the cuban and really liked it, the potato salad had to be home made. It was really good. I had chicken vegie soup, also really good. The second time we went, I ordered a hamburger medium well. I was told they only do burgers well done. OK, so I ordered one of the specials, brisket ends dinner. Most of it went in the garbage, it was just too way too fatty to eat. My husband wanted the cuban, but was told it wasn’t available, so he got a reuben instead. He said it was ok.

Phil knows how to make a sandwich. The shrimp po boy maybe my favorite. They do half a sandwich a soup which I appreciate. The only thing I don’t like is its cans of pop, I would appreciate a rephil. And maybe hot sides.

I am jumping on the Phat Phil’s band wagon, I am a Phat Phil’s phan. Was in CP and needed a quick sandwich to go. Had seen this place on Unilocal and wanted to check it out. Was surprised to find it tucked into the old White Hen Pantry strip mall. Lucky for me, Phil’s was not yet crowded at 11:30AM on a Tuesday. We had plenty of time to browse the menu. The very friendly woman behind the counter helped us with recommendations. I had the hot beef(aka Italian Beef) and my partner had the split pea soup and a half a Reuben. The soup was amazing. Full of ham and very flavorful. The sandwiches were great. I was surprised by how BIG the hot beef sandwich was. It had just the right amount of beef to bun. It was sliced a bit thicker than the kind of beef sandwiches that you would get at a place like Portillo’s. It was BETTER than Portillo’s. Appreciated the super friendly service both from the woman behind the counter and the guy who made the sandwiches. I am living in California now but make regular trips to Crown Point to see family. I will be making regular trips to Phat Phil’s too. Highly recommend!

Wow that was great special of the day beef combo. First i like to eat and I eat alot and I’m full thats hard to do but phils did. At first I thought pricey but really for what you get its worth it. The beef was sliced thicker then most places, the sausage was sliced not just a piece of sausage and the cheese you could taste the mozzarella. It was good and were going back and going back alot. Oh and the place was clean and the girl that helped was so nice she gave us samples of the homemade salads. My wife had the lemon rice soup she loved it dang I wanna go back now but I full

Today I tried the Italian Beef sandwich. While it was very good, I preferred the Reuben from yesterday. Again, the folks were very friendly and the food was fresh.

Phat Phil’s is one of those rare NWI spots that could earn five stars even in Chicago. Something different every day, perfectly smoked meats with wonderful caramelization, great sides made with fresh ingredients, and grass fed meat products make this a must-try spot in Crown Point!

Good food. Enjoyed the atmosphere & friendly staff. The BBQ sauces are all made in house. Found out that one of the items that they specialize in are collard greens. Which were done very well. My wife & I both had the pulled pork sandwich. It was one of the specials today. It was different then what I was expecting but a good different. The toasted bun helped with the moisture of the meat. The side items were things like chicken salad, cheese tortellini etc… Which was fresh and really good. All in all we had a very nice experience and would recommend trying it out. Oh one last but if info… While we were still deciding we were informed that the beef was all grass fed which was a nice surprise. Even though we didn’t have that there are a bunch if things on the menu I still want to go back and try out.

You get a ton for your money. Fresh, made in house salads, and the food is amazing. Love that they try to keep it all local. In my opinion, it is priced fairly for the food that you receive. Staff is friendly. Not a sit down restaurant, but that’s okay, take your food to go and go home or either to a park. I have had the Rueben and the Hillbilly Philly(I think that’s what it was called Cheese and brisket was on it!) Both equally delicious. You wont be disappointed.

Nice clean place in crown town. Great, friendly staff. The Phat Phil burger, lemon rice soup, and cheese tortellini pasta were all great!!! I was not a fan of the ribs, not bad, just not prepared to my liking. I will be returning for sure though. The guy even have my little one a piece of bread to eat her soup with while we waited for the other things to finish up cooking.

Great little sandwich shop nearby to downtown Crown Point, found it by accident but had dinner for the family from there and we ordered a bunch of different things and shared. Every sandwich was awesome and while it is on the kids menu, the Mac N Cheese sandwich was out of this this world. Also recommend the South of the Border and Italian Beef, and of course the Phat Phil Signature sandwich! Great local place to grab food!

We love Phat Phil’s! Everything we’ve tried has been SOGOOD!!! If you’ve never been here, it’s a «must try» local sandwich shop that is far from average. Portions are generous and quality is five star for sure!
