It’s not bad, not sure whether it’s a two or three for me yet. Guess I’ll just type n see… The service was nice and friendly, looks like they have the typical deli items too. Wow, while trying to write a little something about this place, I realize that there really wasn’t ANYTHING remarkable about this place :/ I ordered ‘The Crown Point’ or something like that which was supposed to have Roast Beef and Ham on Rye. Sammich showed up and it was a plain ‘ol Roast Beef sandwich… good, tasty, missing ham though. I wasn’t gonna send it back or anything but, I still wondered how that happened. Do they not know what’s on their sandwiches? I mean, if they were like REALLY busy… OKOK, forgivable but, it was us and ONE other table of TWO. I didn’t notice anyone going from making food to answering the phone and handling the cash register then BACK to finishing making our food. I even used the munchkin as an excuse so ‘WE’ can watch them lol. It’s also been a couple days since we went, no tummy troubles so far, so we’re probably A-OK. My fiancé got the hamburger, it looked like it could’ve been good but I don’t think I had a bit of it. If I did… it wasn’t memorable lol. The one thing I think was nice was that one of the people that worked there gave the munchkin a free small ice cream cone — then when she didn’t like the flavor, he went ahead and switched it out for Vanilla. Unfortunately, that nice little gesture brought us to the ice cream freezer thing… Grossness. Looked dirty and messy, with the tubs just kinda in there, tops haphazardly stacked(if I can even call it that) beside them on the base of the freezer. IDK, maybe it was just an off day for them? I mean there’s plenty of awesome 4 and 5 star reviews. We may go back to try again but, for now I’m just gonna say — Meh, I’ve had better.

Great ice cream! If you’re younger, beware. Papa dislikes youngsters in his store. Must have had a bad group come in once. Great«mom and pop» deli that’s lasted in the area for years, so they must be doing something right.

Papa’s Deli was the first place I stopped in after I moved to Crown Point. The owner couldn’t have been nicer and welcomed us into the neighborhood. It is like stepping back in time; I love the feel of the little shop. I also buy my feta cheese from him– in big chunks, WAY cheaper than at the grocery store. I haven’t taken a walk up there in a bit so I think I will go for a walk to Papa’s with the kids this week for ice cream!

Was visiting the Square and got hungry. I had the gyros, it was decent but wasn’t the best I ever had…

Have you ever been to a place where the food is just average, but the décor, and friendly vibe leave you with a warm, fuzzy feeling? Its happened to me a few times. The most recent being on my visit to Papa’s deli. Walking into Papa’s is like a trip back in time. Papa’s is a deli, diner, and candy store all wrapped into one. Papa’s deli is a pure Americana. The lady who runs the counter could not have been nicer. She made you feel like you were dining in her home. My Reuben sandwich was good. But my overall experience at Papa’s is something I’ll never forget.

I came here after an afternoon of drinking to treat myself to meat, cheese and bread. I was surprised to see the employee or owner(not sure who they were) handle food, wipe their face, scratch themselves and not wash their hands. He then moved over to the meat slicer and handled the meat and went to the cash register and back to making sandwiches. Isn’t there a rule about the sandwich maker not touching the cash register, especially when gloves are not involved? I promptly walked right out of the store. Nothing is worth getting sick over unclean flood and practices.

My husband ventured in one recent Saturday when we had a craving for a gyro. Living in Crown Point, there are not a lot of gyro places. Our favorite is Munster gyros, but did not feel like driving that far. I must say we were a little leery of this place, it looks like you went back in time. But very clean! We ordered gyros and they were very very good! Nice spicy meat and excellent tzaziki sauce. They put lettuce, onion, and tomato on it too along with a pepperoncini. Very good! Will definitely come back!

If you ever come to Crown Point, this is one place I would say you HAVE to visit. Papa’s deli is a privately owned restaurant/deli right on the downtown square. This place bring back so many memories from childhood. 1. where my pizza addiction originated 2. where I played super Mario Bro. for the first time… and became addicted 3. would get very upset if we didn’t go to Papa’s Deli before or after dance class(and I was NOT a bratty child) The gyros are supposed to be good here too. The inside is authentic and has a lot of character. You just have to come here to get the full feel. In fact, next time I’m in Indiana, I will pay a little visit to Papa’s Deli.
