This is a great old stump with tons of character. I spent an hour looking at it, standing on top of it, and taking pictures of it.

Thomas S is right – this stump is not just any cut tree. Before leaving Simpson-Reed Grove with Thomas and Claire, my bf said, «Let’s take them to the stump.» I assured our guests that despite how lame that sounds, it really is an impressive stump. Again, I realized how silly that sounded. But each time I visit the stump, there are at least two other cars filled with people coming to visit the stump and get a photo atop it, so it appears I’m not the only Walker Road Stump groupie. I’m guessing the tree was at least 1600 years old when it was cut down. That fact is heartbreaking, but since we can’t change it we can appreciate it. It helps give the trees a sense of scale. Standing next to a huge tree is impressive, but standing(along with a group of friends) atop the stump really shows how amazing these trees are.

You might think that all stumps are the same. «HA!» say Cherie C, Crescent City’s most prolific Unilocaler. This stump has it all: mass, height, hollow spots, and the x-factor…personality! If you are a connoisseur of all things stumpy, this stump is worth a visit.
