So many good points, it makes up for the few deficits. Camp host is very nice and very available, yet not obtrusive. Price is only $ 15. The place is MAGICAL — like out of a fantasy story. Little paths wind around through ferns and redwoods and big olé stumps that are perfect for climbing on. The tables are new, the sites are clean, the playground is new and is apparently improved regularly, the bathrooms were clean, even though they were fairly old. No showers, but I’m okay with that for the cost. I camp with boys, and they never shower anyhow. It’s only a couple of miles from a variety of beaches, and the kids went out and did some boogie boarding, and were delighted. It’s only a couple of miles from Crescent City, which has all the services you need, including(choke) a WalMart. Oh, boy! It’s only a couple of miles from the Smith River, Brookings, the Chetco, and a Jed Smith Redwoods. Shortcomings…well, it’s pretty cheap, and so the other patrons were a bit ‘interesting’, but harmless. I think that the camp host would be happy to help anyone who was having a problem with neighboring campers, dogs, etc. We had no problems. I was delighted with this campground, and will definitely use it again.

We made a trip down from Portland to see the redwood forest in northern California. We didn’t like the park we had originally planned to stay at, so we stopped by the visitor’s center in Crescent City for some advice. They recommended Florence Keller Regional Park, which is located just north of the city off 101. The camp host came out to greet us when we pulled up, and it was only $ 15 to camp for the night(it’s a deposit box, so bring cash). The park is small but nestled among some amazing redwood trees, and although it is located right along 101, it is still very quiet. There’s a picnic area with a playground, and several short trails that you can hike throughout the park. There are also bathrooms in the park, although there are no showers. Overall, this is a great, cheap place to camp among some redwood trees!
