Was worried at first about restrictions– no shoes in house, no hot tub after 9pm. But host was AB, FAB! Catered to my diet allergies, provided local trail and meal advice. Awesome food, bed, host, property, etc. would stay here again in a heartbeat! Awesome sense of humor!

For folks not familiar with Crescent City(like us!), Hiouchi is 10 minutes in from Ocean on the perfect banks of the wild Smith River in the heart of NorCal’s best Redwoods with no crowds — it’s like going to meditate in the cathedral of nature. C. City is right there, but oh my, DONOT miss this pristine stop on the journey to-from anywhere on West Coast. Please note: similarly named local Hiouchi Motel is NOT the same place or style. We got a little confused on Trip Advisor, and it was made more clear on the Air B&B site with tons of photos and B&B reviews how we got the different places on the river with«Hiouchi» in their names all mixed up. We highly recommend«Bed and Bread Hiouchi»! Curt and Meg are warm, gracious and considerate hosts. Curt by phone said he was a clean freak and I was so happy to hear it in the heart of woods — their warm, cozy and super clean home directly sits on the prettiest part of the wild Smith River. Just walk past great hot tub to the steps down to the river rocks and seclusion, or sit on the deck or in your room and enjoy it right from the house. You can hear the river flowing and a perfect view, great room fireplace and more. I agree with all other reviews about dining options in Crescent City being limited but would go with Good Harvest Café on Hwy 101 if in town since they have more healthy and local fare. We did that for lunch, then loved dining at the B&B all mornings and evenings to get settled down and not have to drive around a bunch. We will be back!

Big home made breakfast, hot tub, cookies and tea on arrival, a peaceful and secluded location, a house dog, and hosts that made us feel right at home right from the start. We’d love to come back and spend a week just hiking in the area. We felt like we were staying with friends instead of a B&B.

BnB Hioichi is definitely a gem in the redwood forest. It is perfectly located next to many trails, activity and fishing. It is right on the Smith River which affords beautiful views of the forest and redwood trees. The rooms themselves are very spacious, inviting, clean and organized and there are plenty of amenities to keep you comfortable during the stay. We didn’t get the chance to try the hot tub but looked to be in a great secluded location overlooking the river. Nothing short of pure relaxation. While you can feel at home with just the inn itself, Curt’s welcoming and friendly personality greatly enhanced the stay. He is extremely helpful and friendly. He cooks a wonderful breakfast that keeps you full through a busy day of hiking. We loved Anton, the owners dog, he was super laid back and even a bit shy. We will definitely come back for a second stay. If your looking to get away from it all and experience the Smith and the redwoods this is the perfect location. With a friendly host, clean stay and beautiful scenery; this is not to missed.
