Desert Diamond Distillery Tasting & Cocktail Room

We swung by 3D and spent a fantastic evening learning about distilling, rum, and what it takes to produce a handcrafted product. John and Deborah are salt of the earth folks with a real passion for their craft.
We went in as novices, never having been to a distillery. John explained the process of producing his rums and vodka, as well as the how to drink it proper. As we imbibed, he had us look for different subtle notes within the drink– things like spice, smoke, wood, cherry.
We were amazed at how clean tasting the rums were and ended up walking away with an Agave rum.
So, lemme ask you; what would you rather have– Wonderbread or an artisan crafted sourdough loaf? Well, now you can ask «Is drinking a mass produced corporate rum good enough, or do I want something that has someone’s love and livelihood poured into it? One sip is all you’ll need to figure it out.

Rum in the desert!
Cottonwood may not be the desert, but this made a good title for my puny review! We were in Cottonwood on our way back from Tuzigoot National Monument. It was late in the afternoon on a Monday and most business were closed or on the verge of closing. We walked by this shop and decided to pull in to check it out! One of the better decisions I’d made on that day! I got the taster which offered a small shot of a few of their rums (3 I think) and their vodka.
The vodka which is made from sugarcane won the day hands down (we ended up leaving with two bottles!), but the rums too were great too. To be honest I loved them all, but had to make a pick so I went with the Gold Miner Barrel Reserve Rum and a recipe for old fashioned cocktail! Now I know how serious Arizona Highway Patrol guys can be, so I do not want anyone to get the impression that I ended up driving out of Cottonwood under the influence, as a matter of fact I did not! So if you really want to enjoy the good stuff, you may want to have a designated driver with you.

Just stopped by to try the Agave Rum… Sweet! This stuff is crazy good. Friendly folks and delightful space. When in Cottonwood stop by for a drink. Just lovely.

Great friendly place… Rum a rating was really fun & informative… the Dark Rum was our favorite… But really liked the sweetest Aguave Rum so much we bought both… have to try the Rum Margarita… Yum!

If you are in Cottonwood, definitely go hear! I love their rums and vodka. Do the tasting flight and then bring home a bottle or two of their liquors. So good!
