It’s the real deal authentic sushi place! Most all of the customers are Asian and they have a great following of loyal locals. It’s in a strip mall next to car wash and looks yucky outside but it’s good and I recommend you give them a try Omakase Style.

I’ve been searching for a decent sushi spot in this area for a while. I’m very glad to have found shibucho. Traditional, Japanese sushi. No mayo, no sauce, no deep fried, just fish. Tasty, quality fish. Anjo(sp?) was my Chef and he was incredible. Excellent timing. Very much looking toward to returning to shibucho.

The restaurant is on the small side. I went during lunch, and luckily there weren’t too many people. I was seated quickly, and the sushi plate was served pretty quickly. The food was good both in presentation and taste. Also, both sushi chef and the waitress were attentive. However, there was no wow factor.

This is by far our favorite Sushi Restaurant. We love coming for lunch. We came for the best dinner ever on Christmas Day and started our new tradition. If you like traditional sushi, this place is a must.

Excellent Chirashi Sushi! Fresh seafood selection, well portioned servings and variety of fish, shrimp, octopus, and etc… I enjoyed the level of attentive service. If you are looking for an authentic Japanese sushi experience, this is one of the place I’d recommend.

I decided to finally try this place based on my neighbor’s recommendation. Boy was that a mistake. I came here for lunch on a weekday. The place was pretty empty. I wasn’t interested in the lunch cirashi now. The chef recommended different kinds of sushi per his choice. Kind of like omakase. I asked for the menu pricing of sushi but he declined to show me. After 10 pieces of sushi, the bill was $ 60. I felt like it was a little bit pricey compared to other sushi restaurants. I quickly paid the damage. I mentioned to the chef that a neighbor of mine recommended this place. I shouldn’t have said that. Then he starting blabbing for me to tell my friends to comes to this restaurant and post on Facebook. I felt slightly uncomfortable dining here and won’t be coming back.

I highly recommend anyone who loves authentic Japanese sushi to come here. Order omakase and sit at the bar when possible because the chef always knows best. The head chef speaks English more fluently than the other chef, but the other guy has jokes for days! We were laughing all through dinner because of him. The restaurant itself is quite small without the usual dingy, divey feel found in many hole in the wall restaurants. Definitely a small group or date will be better accommodated here. We ordered omakase and moved from the table to the bar as soon as seats were available. The chef was joking about diving into the ocean to catch fish for the day and hitting up the ladies. Seriously, hilarious and friendly. I think other Unilocalers weren’t as amused and thought they would be served by a mute chef who will give them food then leave them alone. If this sounds like you, grab a table and problem solved. This place is good ’til the last bite. The sashimi pieces taste fresh and savory. The Uni melts in your mouth like sweet, sweet butter. No, they don’t have any rolls. Don’t bother coming if you aren’t prepared to be treated to fresh slices of salmon, tuna, and albacore. Don’t come here expecting a cheap meal or sushi Americana. Come here for sushi and sashimi the way it should be experienced: ocean fresh and a bit expensive. Don’t be ashamed to ask for prices, you’re the customer after all and always reserve the right to go to a different place should this one be too painful on your wallet. Still, make sure to treat yourself whenever you can!

4.5 — This is Omakase(Chef’s Choice) done right! There is a wide selection of different fish and each piece of sushi or sashimi selected by the sushi chef was melt-in-your-mouth, fresh and delicious. This meal will be quite pricey, and since it is chef’s choice of what you get, you won’t know your bill until the end. But for the same high grade sushi quality and selection, I’ve seen much more higher prices at other places. TIP: Sit at the sushi bar if you can… Much more enjoyable experience. Also, sushi chef Anjo is hilarious(free comedy show, just kidding)!

Came here to try something new instead of going to the only other place we’ve had decent fresh sushi(H2O) and found a new favorite place. We sat at the sushi bar for Omakase– the fish was fantastic, their choices were in perfect order and their hospitality even better than the formers. Highly recommend this place. It’s a gem in Costa Mesa
