Pros: –Accepts Cards –Large Selection(Sushi and Teriyaki) -$ 12 for 12 sushi rolls, 3 shrimp tempuras, miso soup, and a medium drink Cons: –Small dining area –Fall apart sushi The sushi was ok as far as sushi goes, however my sushi began falling apart. This place offers other food such as teriyaki bowls, tempura and sushi wraps. Overall ok location. I’ll give it another chance down the line.

Pretty good! I didn’t have high hopes for this place but I’m pretty satisfied! I ordered the salmon lovers which comes with 5 big pieces of salmon nigiri, 5 pieces of salmon rolls and a side of miso all for about $ 9! I was worried the meal would not fill me up but it was just the right amount! Good quick bite to eat restaurant! I’d come back again

If you are in a hurry, craving sushi, sashimi or some spicy tuna hand-roll; this is the place to be. Please don’t compare this to Roku or an authentic Japanese sushi joints nearby.

Such a disappointment. Their«shrimp crunch roll» is nothing like I’ve ever had before. It had a spicy sauce on top and the crunch part wasn’t crunchy or good. I would not come back here again.

I’ve been to this location for lunch on a few occasions. Noticed how the employees are always polite and friendly here, and service is always quick. This place is known for their convenient take-out sushi, but I usually order their teriyaki chicken bowl with brown rice. Chicken is never dry and portion is generous. No extra charge for brown rice. Yoshinoya’s teriyaki chicken bowl really sucks compared to the one offered at Sushi Boy.

The amount of food that I get for the price is amazing! It’s perfect for my co-workers and I to share for lunch during the week. And the sushi quality is really good for the price as well. I’ve never eaten inside the store because I usually just take out for work. It’s almost always empty in there when I go but the store is pretty small. The beef sukiyaki is really good there I couldn’t believe it when I first tried it. If your eating with friends I suggest the three item combo. It’s enough food to share with three people and get all three full!

2.5 stars Pretty bad. Ordered the following items for take out: –Sapporo($ 13.65): 10 pieces of nigiri — 2 pieces each of tuna, shrimp, salmon, yellowtail, and eel –Sashimi set($ 12.25): 4 pieces of tuna, 2 pieces of salmon, 2 pieces of yellowtail Both the Sapporo and sashimi sets were supposed to come with yellowtail, but alas, it was notably missing from both portions. Yeah, okay, fine, you ran out of yellowtail, but our replacement for the fish were shriveled, sad looking morsels of shrimp that looked questionably old. I didn’t order the Sapporo to get 4 pieces of shrimp — we should have been forewarned that they ran out of yellowtail and I would have adjusted my order accordingly. –Rainbow roll($ 10.50): tuna, seasonal fish, salmon, shrimp, eel, imitation crab, avocado, cucumber — this roll was okay. The seasonal fish wasn’t very appetizing, but everything else was edible. –Tempura spicy tuna roll($ 7.95): 8 pieces of tuna, spicy sauce mixed, cucumber — not what you expect from a regular spicy tuna roll. They use CANNEDTUNA, mixed with the spicy mayo. No thank you. The sashimi set and tempura spicy tuna roll were served on a bed of wilted lettuce. Even the presentation itself was unappetizing. I know I shouldn’t expect much from take out sushi, but I don’t have overwhelming high expectations — 1) if you run out of an ingredient, let your customer know because at the end of the day, I felt like I was ripped off. 2) Canned tuna? Come on, really? No thanks.

I was slightly disappointed by sushi boy. I assume that the food there was healthybut most of the sauces mixes and dressings all contain-toast corn syrup in. The quality of fish was disappointing. However I did like the food on noodles as they were freshly made and relatively inexpensive. I wouldn’t go out of my way to return.

The first thing I noticed when I walked in was that neither the cashier nor chef in the back was Japanese, let alone Asian. Given that, I wasn’t expecting the most authentic Japanese food. Food: To my surprise, the beef sukiyaki udon much surpassed my expectations! One of the better sukiyakis I’ve had. The noodles were cooked to perfection, neither chewy nor flimsy. Might even me home made. Felt like I was eating a $ 15 udon at Mitsuwa. Ok, maybe not Mitsuwa status but pretty good… My girlfriend just ordered California rolls, which was inauthentic, more of what I was expecting. All crab is imitation and they don’t grind it up either to hide it. The ginger they have us on the side also seemed a bit old. Service: staff is very nice and polite. Still thrown off by non-Asians making Japanese food…

Craving Sushi but on a budget. Decided to pop in and check it out. Got the Sept special, Salmon lover for around $ 9. Includes a bowl of Miso, 5 pieces of Salmon Sushi and a decent sized Salmon Roll. Is it the best, no but it’s perfect for a gal with a Sushi addiction, that happens to be frugal.

So lets starts with why I even ended up to this place… I Really like Angotei sushi place in this shopping center and yesterday when I was passing by I decided to stop by and get some sushi. Unfortunately, Angotei was closed and then I noticed sushi boy next door and thought to give it a try. I ordered a crunchy california roll and a Teriyaki chicken bowl. My order was ready in 5 minutes which made me think«was this food pre-made or what». So the first thing I noticed about sushi was the ginger, it looked way back dated to me. It’s color and texture was so bad that I didn’t even taste it even though I’m a ginger freak. The sushi tasted awful, the first cut assured me it was sitting on a refrigerator for a while since even the rice was supper cold. The seaweed was mushy and it makes me to open all the cuts to see if it is true for entire roll or not and yes it was. So I asked the girl at front to look at my food and also asked if they made it fresh or not which of course she would say they just made it… however, I guess after seeing the food she also realized that something was wrong with food and called the manager as I requested her to do so. Long story short they made a refund for sushi but not the chicken bowl even though I had not touched it for same reason. I definitely will recommend anyone to not even give this place a try cause the food is not fresh at all.

Location: next to the 7⁄11 in front of the Mitsuwa. Parking: open parking in front Inside: small open seating. Call ahead for pick up. Used to go to the sushi boy in West Covina but it’s closed now; was so excited that there is one here! My bf and I randomly stumbled upon it when we were in the area for the Orange County fair and came back again this weekend. We both got combo plates but the sushi didn’t seem too fresh. The tuna was def fishy and I was a lil worried about it. The«sukiyaki beef» is actually gyu-don but I really like that. Also we ordered for pick up and this is just a random pet peeve of mine, but I wish they had packed the cooked beef away from sushi/nigiri. If we’re in the area again, will come back but might stick to the cooked foods :)

This restaurant is more of a to-go type establishment where quantity trumps quality. If you know what you’re getting yourself into, then hey — there’s nothing wrong with that! You can get tons of food for less than $ 10. I got the 3 combo meal and although nothing stood out in taste, it was a good value and filled me up. My three item combo consisted of spicy tuna roll(6 pieces), karaage chicken, and vegetable tempura. It also came with rice, salad, and miso soup. It was a tooonnn of food! I even saved some of it for the next day. Taste wise — everything was pretty bland. Not in the ohhh, everything was prepared in such a delicate way but straight up mediocre flavor profile. This wouldn’t be my first choice but if I’m in the mood for fast food Japanese, sure I’d give it another shot.

I had low expectations coming into the place given that it’s your typical Sushi to-go type place. I ordered their May sushi special, which included 2 salmon, 2 shrimp, 1 tuna, an 8 piece spicy tuna roll, and a miso soup. All for under $ 10. To my surprise, it was actually very tasty. The rice was cooked well and not too hard or mushy. The fish was a good temperature and tasted fresh. It’s obviously low grade sushi, but for the price it was very good and a bargain. I usually get my to-go sushi from Mitsuwa next door, but this actually was more satisfying. It’s a small shop with a few tables, but they weren’t busy on a weekday. However, parking is terrible. Their lot is tiny so you’ll have to be patient. Don’t even bother trying to park at Mitsuwa either as their lot is even worse!

Does this place get crowded during weekday? If not, I would like to come here for lunch sometimes. I came here on a Sunday afternoon with the boyfriend. This little fast food joint is very small and it is best to take the food home. I mean there’s nothing wrong to eat here, but it’s weird when it was only us two and the cashier keeps staring at us eat. The menu is fairly simple here. You either get sushi or sashimi, or a Yoshinoya– bowl. I think it is more worth it to get the bowl because it is filling and they give generous portions. For $ 7, it served me two meals. Don’t bother with the mixed tempura because it was way too oily and the batter was so thick. If you like fried food, this might not be good for you as well because the batter was smushy. What I like about this place is that it caters. My office likes to have mini lunch party and they serve not so hardcore sushi too. You got your California rolls and those imitation stuff. Overall, cheap and edible.

Went for lunch here on the way back to vegas! I must say if you live in the Costa Mesa area you should try this sushi place! They have many different choices even if you don’t like sushi, they have amazing tempura and udon! It is a smaller space but it has a great ambiance! They have a build your own combo where you chose three things to make a plate and it comes with rice and miso and a salad! It was so yummy! The portions are so big and the price is really nice! For the combo it was only 8.95 and my friend got udon and it was 6.75! Really good price for really good food and sushi! Also, a cool mention they have this coconut salmon sushi! Very good place and super cute over all!

This is one of my guilty pleasures and honestly there is nothing wrong with their sushi. Anything non-sushi from karage chicken, teriyaki chicken, vegetable tempura is all good too. Depending on my mood, the spicy ahi roll, shrimp tempura and nigiri are my top choices. Their poke is nothing to run home to, but the option is there. I like their 3 item combo, can’t beat it for under $ 10. You mix and match whatever you like and only a few items are $ 0.50 extra, which is more than reasonable. Fast food, but still made to order and their sushi is always tasty. I’m excited they serve brown rice now, because we usually opt for all salad. The miso soup is salty, but on a cold day, it hits the spot. Yeah, I give it 4 stars, because the food is good, their customer service is 5 stars for always being super nice. Twice a year, they have a gift card promotion and it’s running through the end of March. You purchase a $ 20 card and receive 10%, which affords you an extra 2 dollars on the card. If you like to dine here, it’s a win win.

I was sad when they took the HB one away, it was 2 blocks from my house. Got super excited to see the CM shop open. Its just 2 blocks from my work. Fast, fresh and filling. The young lady at the counter is always helpful and super nice. I tend to avoid getting my drink here because 7⁄11 is right next door.

Oh Boy! I found a place that serves fresh and quality sushi at fast food prices. Score! Came here for dinner with a friend and we both were very stuffed after our meal. Let’s see, we got the combo platter and it was a ton of food. Now, the best part about eating with your best friend is that she allows for swapping and sharing. Yes, I gotta go in with a game plan when going to sushi places because I wanna eat everything! I got Combo A, I believe and it came with a California roll, with chicken and spicy tuna. It was very delicious and fresh. The small restaurant is quaint and the staff is very friendly. The meal was very filling and affordable! I’m so glad they opened one in Costa Mesa because they are everywhere in Torrance!
