I really enjoyed my takeout from here. The Lion King Roll was the favorite, but, the Albacore and Blue fin Sushi was melt in your mouth good too!

Loved it! Definitely my go-to spot in Newport Beach when looking for casual sushi. Fish was fresh both in rolls and sashami. Can’t wait for my next trip!

Odd. The edemame appetizer doesn’t qualify for the free appetizer. The fish wasn’t as fresh as is could be as the color was a bit oxidized. I wouldn’t come back as it was just ordinary compared to the price we paid. The service was new. They tried to be attentive.

Pretty decent sushi joint. Authentic sushi this side of the Pacific! This place brings me back to my travels to Japan. Took the wife here with the fam for an early Mother’s Day dinner. Had the Miso Butterfish, Hawaiian roll, Uni(sea urchin) and Unagi(eel) sushi. Wife had the crispy rice and tuna(awesome!). All were pretty yum. Side Car donuts is right down the straight for dessert.

The food was good but the service completely ruined the whole experience!!! We waited 45MINUTES just for our appetizer. The table next to us was seated after we put in our order. They received two appetizers, a sushi roll and hot sake before we even had our appetizer… SORIDICULOUS. First and last experience at this sushi joint. Worst service I have had in years

Finally decided to try this sushi spot that my girlfriend and I have been curious about for a while. HUGEMISTAKE. When we walked in everything looked like the makings of a nice small sushi restaurant. Small place sushi bar with 5 seats and 4 or 5 tables. Not bad. Music was strange selection for sushi M&M and usher. My girlfriend ordered a salad for an appetizer and the Hawaiian roll. I ordered a teriyaki chicken bowl as an appetizer and the UFO roll(surprise roll) This was the point where everything went wrong. Two other groups sat after we ordered, two guys at the bar one at a table. The men at the bar next to us received two different appetizers then my girlfriends salad arrived. Good salad good dressing. Then the men received some of their sushi(which was ordered probably 15 minutes after ours) then my girlfriends Hawaiian roll came out. Her roll was good but I’m now sitting without my appetizer or roll. I then watch the other table receive all of their rolls and the men get multiple orders of hot sake and rolls. I ask the waitress about my food pointing out my girlfriend had already ate all of her food(she was unhappy having to do this but I wouldn’t let her let it sit) Finally after around 45 minutes my roll arrived(still no appetizer) again roll is good this time my girlfriend is watching me eat, yes I shared but still just awkward. We finish the roll and ten minutes the waiter brings over my chicken and actually said«here is your appetizer» mam I’m sorry but I’ve never gotten an appetizer after all of the food at table was already cleared. The chicken bowl was probably two ounces of cut up chicken thigh with 8 pieces of lettuce on the side. No rice or veggies besides the lettuce. Wowed chicken teriyaki bowl of you ask me. I currently work at a restaurant and have served and everything and I have never not left a tip but today I had enough. Our meal came out to over $ 40 without even an apology or acknowledgement of how ridiculous the experience was. Sorry but no that experience doesn’t deserve a gratuity. The good — convenient location The bad — food was mediocre, service was awful still can’t believe my girlfriend was completely done before I received anything, not worth the money All in all obviously wont be back. There are ten other sushi joints on 17th highly suggest giving any of them a shot. Or just get sushi from Ralph’s.

Sushi is ok but service is terrible. Not open for lunch, not open on Mondays and when I called on Tue they said they wouldn’t make the Ramen to go. When I inquired why she said«because it’s a noodle and the noodle will get longer and longer» which I did not understand. I let her know that I live 2 minutes away and would come get it now. She said«sorry but Ramen is only for diners.»

Neighborhood gem! I think their sushi is fantastic — Big fan of the fresh nigiri/sashimi. Cooked entrees(Miso Cod, Chicken Teriyaki, etc) are OK but I think their sushi is far superior to the baked/fried/cooked items.

Never thought my first review would go towards a sushi restaurant but hey, I am trying to build up my profile so why not? This is a great sushi spot to go to if you are in the area. It’s pretty small but I have never seen it too crowded(this is probably due to the abundance of restaurant choices in this area of Costa Mesa). I recommend the spicy Miso Ramen soup, it is a great app to start with some edamame and then go ahead and get yourself the lollipop roll that a lot of other reviewers already mentioned. The staff is friendly and attentive. Would definitely go back!

We had a coupon and decided to change it up from our local sushi joint that we love(but tends to be so crowded). The service was excellent, the food was great and the atmosphere was nice and clean. It’s tough when you have another place you love but the selections were good. I would give it a second chance. I do agree that it is overpriced though but that’s what you get for 17th and Irvine I guess.

Walked in and there was only one person there. So me and my friend took a booth. When the waitress came over she told me if it gets busy later I will have to have move. I told her that is a very bad business practice. Anyways… So if you do a check in here on Unilocal you can get a free appetizer. We tried the coconut shrimp, it was good. I then got the viva mexico. It was different, but not bad. Dont think I would get it again. My friends got the dinner combo with salmon. It was a pretty average meal. Parking at this tiny strip mall is also a big challenge. Im still on the fence with if I would go back or not.

Wish we would have came here sooner! I walk by it everyday and never dropped in to try it until last night. Man was it good! The crispy rice was delish but the yellow tail and jalapeño was unreal. So fresh. My husband loved the lollipop roll and I wanted to try it but I don’t do crab, next time we’ll ask to substitute. The tsunami roll was super yummy too, as was the philly. The staff was so nice and patient even with our three year old and three month old they made us feel very welcome and accommodated my three year old’s food allergies. Will definitely make this our regular sushi spot!

Just moved to the area and this place is maybe 1 – 2 blocks from our apartment complex. We’ve ordered here probably 5 times in the last 2 months or so and they have consistently good sushi and miso soup. I usually have the shrimp tempura crunch roll and the eel sauce they have on it is amazing! My husband and I have also tried the lollipop roll, tsunami roll, California roll, and many others, and they’ve all been good. We haven’t dined in so I can’t speak on what that experience is like, but they do a great job with takeout :)

4.5 stars? Really, people? The service, I agree, was attentive and great. The sushi was not fresh. The sashimi tasted fishy, and the specialty rolls were just barely average. I would not eat sushi here again(maybe cooked things).

My boyfriend and I love this place. The sushi chefs are always very nice and the fish is fresh. Their specialty rolls are impressive, as is their list of sake options. If you’re not a sake connoisseur they will help you pick out something you like. Very welcoming place, we are glad it’s walking distance from our apartment!

We were in the mood for Japanese food and we wanted to find a place close by to our hotel so Jizake Sushi fit the bill. We were greeted by friendly staff and chose to sit near the front window booth and I like the screen which separates us from other tables. We ordered the unagi hand roll which was good, the shrimp and vegetable tempura appetizer, salmon teriyaki dinner and chicken teriyaki dinner. The service was friendly and prompt and the portions for the salmon and chicken were hearty. However, it wasn’t quite what we are used to in terms of tempura for the shrimp was small and batter wasn’t fluffy. As for the meaty portions of salmon and chicken, they were good but the teriyaki sauce was different, not sweet like we are used to. The chicken was meaty but not sliced thin, more like nuggets. The food was good but not what we expected.

Overpriced and undelivered sushi. The place is small like most local sushi restaurants but their prices are crazy. If you want takeaway they give you an overpriced menu and you have to ask for a normal menu. I would go to Jack’s fusion down the road from now on. Never have to wonder what I’m getting and it’s fairly priced.

This rating is for my dinner six months ago but I’m still upset every time I pass by. My bf and I came and ordered the chefs special toro sashimi with a couple other rolls and a couple beers The sashimi was still frozen and was horrible! The rolls were fine but nothing memorable. The shocker came when we got the bill. It cost at least $ 75 for sashimi and a couple rolls! They charged $ 32 for the toro sashimi! And it was frozen!!! We couldn’t believe the price for the low quality of fish we got. I will never come back again. I can’t believe this place has such high ratings.

Stopped by Friday night and it was empty 30 minutes before closing. The staff was still very friendly and the food was really good. I’ve been here and to the Laguna Nigel spot too but always forget to review, so here goes. Highlights for me: –moonlight roll is wrapped in egg which is almost crêpe like. Sounds strange but try it, you’ll be glad you did –spring roll is wrapped in rice paper and so you can really taste the fish. It’s always good to have some sushi rolls without rice. I say this not for low carb reasons but for pure gluttony lol. I don’t want to fill up on rice! –yellow tail and tuna sashimi were perfectly fresh and flavorful –crispy rice was enjoyed by the group –the perfect mix of crunch and spice. Of course you’ll never be blown away by the location of either Jizakes but who cares. It’s all about good service and fresh, yummy sushi. You’ll enjoy either location, I’m sure of it.

Way overpriced for mediocre sushi. I think whoever decided on the prices for this establishment must have been on drugs. There are mutiple places in proximity with normal pricing, better ambiance, and better sushi. Sushi Imari, Sushi Town etc. Much better options! I hope the owner realizes that he will go out of business if he continues to charge $ 18 a roll.

Did someone really think long and hard and then decide«Jizake» was a great name for a restaurant? I was inside before I even knew what the place was called; the exterior sign emphasizes«SUSHI»(giant letters) and hides«Jizake», as if someone had second thoughts about the name during the making of the sign. Unfortunate monikers aside, Jizake trades in fare similar to a nearby place, Jack’s Fusion Sushi. Jizake is brighter and quieter but both places like their sushi-inspired rolls which aren’t generally the height of my sushi satisfaction. Here at Jizake I ordered up: * Edamame($ 4, nicely salted on the top layer and crying for salt on every layer below); * Albacore nigiri($ 6, 2 pieces served sauced, perhaps to mask the fact that they were on the wrong side of being entirely fresh); * Hamachi Nigiri($ 6, 2 pieces, not the tastiest hamachi but fresh and ample sized); and * Spicy Tuna Roll(which lacked spice and bore the consistency of something the cat coughed up; the texture was really not to my liking). I don’t really care much for Jack’s Fusion Sushi but I cared even less for Jizake which felt a bit more expensive without good reason. Sometimes a little storefront in a small strip mall turns out to be a find. At other times it turns out to be exactly what it looks like. In this instance, an unfortunate moniker led to an unremarkable meal about which not much more can be said except to say that you can do better, keep looking.

Came in around 7pm on Saturday and there was only one other couple and their baby. I should have turned around and left but decided to give some rolls a try. Miso soup was too salty. Spicy garlic edamame needed soy sauce/salt. Wasn’t very spicy either. UFO were small cuts of tuna, yellowtail, salmon, and fake crab meat on a piece of tempura white fish. I highly dislike anything cooked tempura especially fish. So this was also a miss for me. I ordered a roll by the name of firecracker something because it said«veggie» roll in the description with seared tuna and jalapeño. It was mostly avocado wrapped in white rice. There was a very tiny piece of asparagus. Veggie should not be in the description. I was expecting maybe cucumbers, carrots. not chunks of avocado. Avocado is technically a fruit. My boyfriend had a soft shell crab handroll(crab split in two rolls) and said it was lightly battered which is his preference.

I went there a few weeks ago with my wife and daughter. The place was clean and the parking was ample. We walked right in and got a table. There was one other couple. The décor was very typical of a lot of sushi places. I ordered a sushi plate for $ 22 and my wife ordered tempura. The presentation was good to average. I liked the green salad and miso dressing. The fish on the sushi was not overly fresh and not worth ordering again. I thought the tempura was too well done. It took a long time to get our food considering there was only one other couple there. I rated this place as OK and feel that there are other places I would explore before I come back

One of my favorite spots to hangout and eat sushi. It’s a simple sushi spot with great chefs that give you a great experience. You’re in luck if Tomo is the sushi chef for the night! He makes great conversation, very creative with his UFOS, and definitely makes great sushi. If you like sushi, drinking, and drinking with the sushi chef, this is definitely the spot for you!

There are some interesting items on the menu — I think the spicy scalloped ha drill was interestingly prepared, with a Sriracha blend sauce and avocado. We are not big on rolls but they have some interesting ones that I will try next time. I usually judge a sushi restaurant by their uni — they had none. The wasabi shrimp was a miss — they should spice it up more and put the wasabi mayo on the side so the tempura shrimp stays crunchy. Both types of tuna we tried were not very fresh. The amberjack and mackerel were both delicious — the chef had recommended them both as good selections. Oddly, the only type of green tea they had was the sweetened kind. What does all this mean? Jizake shows flashes of quality and creativity and quite a few«needs improvement». As this is close to me, I have hopes that the flashes will overtake.

So good and fresh! After anxiously waiting for this place to open up so close to my apt I finally got to go and I was not disappointed. Everything tasted so good and buttery. The service was great and our waitress made some really good recommendations and we had the lollipop roll. I can’t wait to o back.
