Just and update, they have remodeled and greatly improved the interior of the restaurant, food still great.

The food isn’t spectacular, but it is dirt cheap. I usually spent more at McDonald’s. I’d prefer it if they upped the quality a bit and charged a buck or two more.

I come here every-so-often due to convenience. The sushi is ok, but I’ve definitely had better. The teriyaki bowls, however, are a great deal. The place is a hole-in-the-wall type place, worn and marginally clean. I do like that they use gloves when preparing the food, though! Today I went in and while waiting for my order to-go one customer who was seated with 4 others questioned his teriyaki chicken bowl because it was spicy. The thin, tall, asian gentleman behind the counter started yelling something in broken english that neither the customer nor myself could understand. After a few VERY polite questions by the customer he realized the man behind the counter was telling him that he had ordered the spicy chicken bowl so that is what he got. The customer ended with saying«no problem, I’ll just eat this. I’m easy.» even though he thought he had ordered the teriyaki bowl. His companions offered to buy the bowl off of him so he could order ANOTHER teriyaki bowl but he contented himself with what he was given. One star off for the mediocre sushi, and another star off for the rude gentleman(maybe owner? he’s always there whenever I come in!) I am almost tempted to take off another star as this is no way to treat your customers! What if the man DID order the teryiaki bowl and the employee/owner didn’t understand or take down the order properly? I guess the employee(or owner) is always right at Choito — not the customer. Makes me want to pay AFTER I receive my order to ensure it is correct!

I’m a regular… always phone in my order so I can get it and go. The nice man who runs this place knows me by name and always greets me with a smile. The chicken bowl is probably the best chicken bowl you will find in this area. Everything’s fresh off the grill. For $ 5, you can’t complain too much. The sushi is okay… ate it a few times but didn’t do it for me. It’s pretty bland. I stick to the teriyaki bowls.

This place kills most chicken bowl places I’ve been too. Expect great quality chicken that has been grilled to perfection, perfectly cooked rice, along with some edamame thrown in on the side. Place is a hole-in-the-wall but brings great value for what you can get for under $ 6. I ate here weekly while in Newport. Great if you are on a low fat diet/high protein diet.

If you’re lookin for a quick bite of rice and meat, Choito’s the spot to rock. Quick style, beefbowl style resto. One of my faves in the OC. Their beef bowls are great, I specifically like the dragon steak bowl, but any of the others are good too. Beef or Chicken, you’re good to go. Another lil insight to the curious wonder that is me… I absolutely LOVE Yoshinoya, and I don’t know what the self-proclaimed healthy bowls expert was saying when he was saying he’d rather have the gut bomb beef bowl. Yoshinoya rocks, but this place is definitely a very good healthier alternative, if that’s what you wanna call it. Definitely better than the flame broiler — not hating cuz I go there too, but if I had my choice between Choito and the latter, then Choito would win 10⁄10 times. I’ve never ordered the sushi, so I wouldn’t be able to comment on that. The staff has always been friendly with me, even when it’s busy there. You get what you ask for and you don’t really get served, but they’re there to provide what you need if they can. Size — There aren’t a lot of tables to sit at, so mostly we pick up our order and take it out. In fact, if 10 of you and your friends go there, you’ll be hard pressed to all be seated comfortably… Parking — Decent, it’s in a small private area so it has it’s own lot pretty much, away from the craziness of Newport.

I love the bowls here! I’ve never had the sushi(yet.) Their marinades rock! The chicken– Love how you can taste the rice wine burning off when you order it fresh. The steak– just a hint of spice. Perfect for a quick bite. ps-I thought there was plenty of steak on my bowl, not sure what that other guy was talkin bout.

I’m normally not a fan of the very small, cheap, obviously they cant be as good as other sushi places. however, if you dont go for a full sushi meal here it is actually really good. i ordered a bowl that was half spicy tuna, have krab(not normally a fan) all over rice… and it worked. split a crunchy roll also that was ok. buddy ordered a spicy tuna roll and it was a full roll good size, looked good too… for $ 2.50. cant beat that.

My dearest Choito, While I accept the limitations of our relationship I must confess my undying love. I know that I do not offer you an unconditional love as the idea of ordering anything other than the dynamite bowl makes me want to curl up in a food poisoned vomiting ball and die. I also do not enjoy your family… mainly the tall man smacking his gum who seems to think he is way too important to be taking my order or making my food. I also find I must repeat myself often … how many times do I have to ask for an extra salad dressing for my dynamite bowl… cause I think three times should be enough. And often you test my patience by allowing the afore mentioned gum smacking twit of a man to confuse dynamite bowl with combo bowl — really, who wants half a cup of imitation crab? All this being said… no other restaurant has ever tickled my taste buds, filled my stomach, only demanded a mere amount of my money, and been so good for me… Will you marry me?

not my first choice, but every-so-often my friends and i stop in. it used to be a regular spot for us back in highschool, seeing how close it is to newport harbor… but now-a-days it doesn’t seem worth it most of the time. i usually get the dragon bowl, it’s a hybrid of the chicken/steak bowls. sometimes the meat is kinda bland and boring, but it’s usually pretty good. and i always get whatever that japanese soda is, where you have to pop the marble down to open it! tastes like bubblegum. the salad that they started serving with everything a few years back is kinda… not-so-much.

Self proclaimed Japanese healthy bowls expert. I came here expecting Yoshinoya and got something more like jack-in-the-box. Tokyo beef bowl: «Black Angus beef check short rib easy marinade of Japanese BBQ sauce.» It was basically 3 or 4 soy beans, a few shreds of beef and a whole lotta rice. It was good but not fucking $ 8 good. The sushi looked sketch. I’d rather have a Yoshinoya gut bomb beef bowl.

Healthy and quick! Kinda fast food, but not. One of those Korean owned Japanese take out places. The food is ok. Healthy. Bowls. Sushi(kinda). Combos. But out of the last 10 visits, they managed to screw up 9 times. Nothing major, just a pain in the ass. Whenever I order the«spicy» bowl, they never put a dash of spice on it. But they always get the«less rice, extra order of chicken» right!

I go here about once a week with my coworkers. The place can get really busy at lunch, so I would suggest either going a little later, or calling in the order for pick-up. The restaurant itself is very small, with only 15 – 20 seats, so ordering to-go is a popular option. The chicken teriyaki bowl is easily the favorite, costing a mere $ 4.25 and coming on a bed of rice. I’d stay away from the spicy chicken bowl, as it’s the exact same as the chicken teriyaki bowl, just with added sriracha sauce on top — better to add it yourself. The steak bowl is a little chewy and not so great. Everyone who has tried it in the past has never ordered it again. The dynamite bowl with spicy tuna is also very popular, and they give a lot of spicy tuna here. The rolls here aren’t anything special, and one of the bowls that offers crab is nothing more than the imitation crab meat. The prices are all very reasonable here though. This place is ideal for quick, fast Japanese food, even if the owner appears to be Korean. It easily satisfies my teriyaki chicken craving. *Edit: 6÷25÷07 After my last visit here where I got the Chicken bowl, I’m going to have to downgrade my rating from a 4 to a 3. The chicken was dry and not as tasty as I remembered it. The dynamite bowl is still good to get though.

Rather hard to find if you aren’t looking for it. Right across from Me & Ed’s Pizza and next to Sense of Beauty. This is a ho hum fast food Japanese Restaurant. The chicken and steak teriyaki bowls are very good and I would highly recommend them. The sushi bowls are ok but unless you REALLY want sushi in a hurry, I would not recommend it. The sushi rolls they offer are the standard fair but again nothing special. The prices are very good; again this is considered«fast food». Overall it is a great little shop and I love to support the independent nature of it. Everyone else I know who has eaten here really enjoys it, including the sushi, so maybe I’m being too picky.
