I ordered the Origami seafood special and my husband ordered the mackerel roll, tuna hand roll, and another roll. The wait was longer than I hoped but in the end, really great Japanese food. Loved everything about the food and the restaurant. The walls were decorated with Polaroids and there were some sort of Japanese opera music in the background.

We really enjoy this little sushi spot! It is FAR from your average, commercialized and Americanized Japanese restaurant. The sushi is authentic and fresh and delicious. We have never had a bad roll or hand roll or sushimi or nigiri. All of the fish is amazing. You really do feel like you’re in Okinawa. Try the green tea ice cream for dessert or even as an appetizer! It’s amazing! For the reviewers talking about«plain» sushi, go get your«sushi» at the grocery store. Saucy, fried, heavy rolls with days old and imitation ingredients are as much sushi as Americans’ concept of «pizza» is pizza.

Just had Sushi from Origami for the first time this weekend and it was amazing! The restaurant is not the newest nor is it the most spacious. However, the staff there was very friendly especially the one working the register! I would come back again for their sushi!

20 years ago, I picked up the Corpus area as part of my sales territory. About the same time, I had my first experience with sushi. It was OK, but I didn’t know what, or how to eat this exotic new food. So, my first night in Corpus 20 years ago I saw Origami and decided to try sushi a second time. Origami is a different kind of sushi house. Most importantly, it is owned and operated by a real ethnic Japanese sushi chef from Japan. He is very nice, and when I told him that I was a newbie, he sat me at the bar and gave me a great lesson on sushi, sushi manners, and fed me a truly delicious meal. Well, I visited again for the first time in years today. The same gentleman is still there, and the food is still great. The deluxe sushi meal came with beautifully prepared mackerel and very lightly smoked salmon, along with tuna, hamachi, and many other assorted pieces. What impresses me is that the sushi is properly cut and prepared. Most Americans would never notice, but it does make a difference. The food is just great, and the owner is even better. My only complaint, and it will unfortunately keep me from visiting often, is that they don’t take American Express. Too bad, but I’m a business traveler, and AMEX is what I have to use. It was fun to be back though, and I really had a good time.

Authentic and incredible! I use to live in Corpus and moved away to Austin 4 years ago. Now living in Austin I dream about the day we will walk into the most quaint family-owned sushi restaurant in Corpus. The prices are unbeatable, and the quality of the sushi is top rated and made to order. The servers are amazing and attentive. The heartbeat of the restaurant are the owners themselves, Taka and AT. They are wonderful couple and have a great establishment. The experience is always superb and never disappoints. Everytime we make a trip back to Corpus, Origami is always our first stop when we get into town!

I can not wrap my mind around why everyone enjoys this place. The lady up front was very kind. I love that they stick to a tradition, that is why I give 2 stars. The sushi is priced higher than on their website. I ordered all nigiri: squid, Egg, hamachi, and eel. The squid was chunky The hamachi was a large portion(awesome!) but warm. The eel was crunchy like it was not cleaned properly. The egg was the best. Nothing to complain about. Now on to my Caucasian American server. He was very awkward and made me feel very weird about being there. He looked at me the whole time and asked if I was ok every other minuet. I had to tell him three times that all I wanted was water and nothing else to drink. All-in-all I will not be back due to the poor quality of sushi and the sick feeling I have had today after eating there yesterday.

Love this place, highly recommend it. They’re family-owned, and their hours reflect that. The food is delicious, especially the melty-tender sweet potatoes in the vegetable tempura and I highly recommend getting a side salad with your meal. My grandmother’s been coming here for near-on twenty years and she used to walk out with bottles of the miso ginger salad dressing; it’s a necessity in our lives. Our server was sweet and attentive — she’s still working on English, but we communicated very well and it was clear that she was interested in making our meal as good as possible. The glasses for our beers were frosted and there was a great selection of vegetarian sushi, which is excellent for me. Great food, great service, great atmosphere!

Literally the worst service I have EVER had anywhere. Our food came out sporadically throughout the table. The server was no where to be found ever. And it took over an hour to get our sushi. Even people that came in after Us Had eaten and paid. I went to speak to the manager and she did not speak any English what so ever and just informed me in broken English that it would be out soon. I was so close to just walking out. And then the sushi came out and it was awful! Eel badly cooked, some still had scales! I am a frequent sushi goer and I can honestly say I would never go back or recommend it! After all that we were never apologized too and were given no discount(not what it’s about but I believe I deserve fan apology

The customer service was awesome. Our meals were made to order, which was very much appreciated. We had the panned grilled salmon with shrimp and ordered sushi rolls without rice. Sushi prepared in this particular way is, in my opinion, healthier and more tasty.

I absolutely love this place and was completely loyal to them my dr took us here once and I was hooked. I raved and raved for 3 years and was avid to bring all friends there then recently less then 6 months ago I convinced my fiancé to try it(he’s an imperial fan) and unfortunately the sushi failed me. An ugly taste was left in our mouths .I’m assuming the oil to fry had not been changed in a while and I’m surprised we did not throw up that night because it wanted to come up trust me :(I haven’t been back since I want to go back on my own .i do want to believe this place is bad .I’m hoping it was a fluke night because the owner wasn’t there

Sorry Origami but I didn’t enjoy you too much. I’m not sure if it was an off night but the service seemed very frazzled and unattentive. Being my first time, I ordered a bunch of my usual favorites to try things out. The yellow tail and salmon were the shining stars — moist and soft. The rest of it didn’t taste super fresh or flavorful. I left a bit disappointed after reading the great reviews for this place. On to the next!

Simple and natural sushi, not much add-ons. Food and ambiance feels very authentic! Plus their wasabi doesn’t taste like commercial ones. Good and fast service too! Satisfied my sushi cravings.

This is Sushi«old school» style. They still use sheets of paper and pencil to place the order which I like. The Sushi rolls are plain and simple and that’s very refreshing, it reminds me of when I first started eating Sushi in the early. 90’s. Love the Tuna Nigiri, love their Rainbow road, and I usually order a philly roll. If you live in CC and you like real Sushi you should try this place. It’s also very reasonably priced

This restaurant has a long history of making simple and pleasant sushi. They had reasonable prices and everyone was very nice. Although, I would not recommend the pizza sushi unlews you enjoy a gonat gobbldy-goop of cheese on top that suppresses the rest of sushi flavor; Tasted like cheesy rice. It is a bit weird for me to see the women dressed in traditional Japanese attire and the men dressed in whatever they want… Overall, nice lil spot for sushi

Sushi that’s simple. Different from most places that douse their sushi in tempura flakes, spicy mayo and various other ornaments, the sushi at Origami is at its most simple form. Without all the extra distractions, the flavors of the different seafood can be better appreciated.

Ate here for the second time last night. Ordered sushi both times. Very good and fresh. My favorites are the rainbow roll, Arizona roll, and dragon roll. Great atmosphere and customer service too.

Wow was I amazed at how good the Nigari sushi was. The chef was awesome. He looked just like Jiro from the documentary on Netflix. The wait staff was attentive. We tried mixed rolls and nigari. The nigari was exceptional. I have never seen a chef prepare salmon this way. I would avoid the terriaki. Lastly, the ice tea refills are free but soda refills are per soda.

I’ve been comng to this place on and off for over 10 years. I’m so happy its stayed open. There is a server there who has also been there over 10 years and he is great. So, lets get down to the food. If you’re looking for specialty rolls that are unique and different this may NOT be the place for you. AKA may be a better fit. Origami’s rolls are, in my opinion, pretty simple and easy. Nothing too wild but prepared well and tastes great. We ordered a dragon roll and rainbow roll and they were delicious. The dragon roll presentation was fun! Definitely visit this place, theres a reason why its still in business all these years. Great customer service and delicious food!

For corpus, this the best you can do for authentic japanese sushi. If you want spicy mayo or a lot of soy sauce this is the wrong place. If you are interested in American style sushi, you have a better chance at the other locally owner sushi restaurants. He goes the extra mile with his customers and learns what they like. Always has off menu items
