Oh, I hate going down stars on this place. The service was fine, speed of service as good as ever, they JUST got a perfect score from the health department(as per Kitchen Kops) and when they bring me my 8oz sirloin… it looked great, it was good medium just as I ordered… but in spite of the perfect appearance, it was not very tender. Tough to cut and chew. And we had family with us who just really really wanted to experience the Astor. I had to assure them that what they had today(theirs was tough too, I watched them trying to cut them) is not the norm. If you leave a restaurant with a tired jaw and it’s not from talking, it’s not a good thing. We usually have a much better experience here.

I wouldn’t say Grandmas cooking. But pretty darn close. Everything was delicious! Service was friendly attentive.

It is a shame after eating here for 20 plus years how this place has gone downhill. I ordered lunch with a chopped steak Med/Med rare. The steak came out raw and mushy. The waitress was kind and took it back. Not 2 min later brought it back smashed with more butter all over it. It was not cooked anymore than when it left! She looked and said«oh my… That’s terrible; you can’t eat it like that». Round 3: comes back burned to a crisp! Can we say — cook with an attitude! If you can’t cook don’t be a cook. The original meal was $ 11.99 with soup, salad, potato and a veggie. The waitress said she would only charge me for the salad, potato and ice tea. She said that«Nick» the owner, told her how to price my meal. Now get this, $ 11.27!!! His brother Mike would have NEVER done that. Don’t waste your time or money to a bunch of tight asses who screw over long term patrons. I will NEVEREATHEREAGAIN… I even gave them the benefit of the doubt about 5 years ago when my salad had a dead roach in it and one other time when the salad tasted like raw fish juice because that stored the salad under the fish tray. EATATYOUROWNRISK… It used to be Ok; not great but fairly consistent. I can longer support this business.

The Green Goddes salad dressing was amazing as always. My steak was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. We came at lunchtime on Valentine’s day. I live in Fort Worth and it has been many years since my last visit. My family has been coming here for years. My Grandaddy, first brought my Dad here when he was a young man back in the early 60’s.I have been here every time my family came down to Corpus over the years. And for the first time, today my 4 year old got to experience the Astor, that now makes four generations in my family to enjoy this piece of history. I can just see my Grandaddy looking down with a smile. Thank You Astor.

This place is really dirty, will not come back again. As soon as they sat us down we noticed a strange filthy smell and the table, menus and even the floor were all very sticky. What good does it do to brag about having the best food in our area if the business owners don‘t care about the cleanliness of their restaurant. It makes me wonder why they are still in business and have not been shut down. I‘ve seen other reviews where people complain about how filthy this place is but now I saw it for myself. Nasty Place!!!

We have been in town working the last few weeks. We tried this place for lunch at the beginning of our stay here and at the stay. We were not impressed to much with the food on first visit and was totally turned off from it the last experience. The front of the building clearly says fine food, but it is not fine by any means. Prices are very high for what you get. The 12 oz chopped steak isn’t any different than a hamburger patty in size. Ordered medium well and it was extra well. Their baked potatoes were very old and not very warm both trips. They appeared to have been cooked to death the day before and reheated. Asked for extra salad dressing and when our server brought it to me, he had his thumb stuck in it. Never asked if I needed a refill on my drink. He was friendly when we entered and his service stopped after he brought the food out to table. I would clearly recommend something better from anywhere else than here. If you want a really great steak, I’d recommend going to the Ol’ Steakhouse Co over on Avalon. You will not be disappointed there. Even the McDonald’s down the road is better than this place.

We dined there on a Friday evening, before the main crowd arrived. My date and I each had a nightly special, steak and shrimp. The food was memorable good and the service was exceptional. It is an older, family business so the other décor comments do apply. Also, the overhead music was cutting out and annoying; though the wait staff did address this.

Do not ever judge a book by its cover. This restaurant is great. May not look like much from the outside but inside everything is wonderful. Waitstaff is excellent and very friendly! Food is delicious… got the steak and shrimp w/rice pilaf. The rolls are so buttery and good.

Hate to do this but 2 is all I can give. Ordered the Tbone medium rare and it was almost well done. Had the side of mixed vegetables which is just chopped veggies out of a frozen bag. Salad lettuce is clear, and dressing had no flavor it was strange. However, I will say I had a bite of the dinner roll and it was excellent.

This has got to be the best ever Steak house, nothing short of excellence. The t– bone is one of the best I have ever tasted and on top of it all the staff is wonderful. This will be our 3rd and surely not the last time we will come here while in Corpus Christi. would definitely recommend to others.

Excellent excellent steaks! Side dishes need more attention. Staff very friendly and on point. Drinks not over priced. If you’re looking for a great steak and drinks for around 40 bucks. Check it out.

Been coming here for for years. My business takes me to Corpus Christi rather frequently. I always end up at the Holiday Inn back behind the Astor, so this restaurant is very convenient to eat at. The steaks are very good, they’re always cooked to perfection and I enjoy that. I tend to stay away from the seafood however because it always has an old taste to it and the last time I ate them, the shrimp was rather fragrant in a bad way!(nice way to say that they stunk!) The restaurant itself has been neglected over the years, is very run down and doesn’t seem to be very clean. Service is always excellent. So if you want a great steak a good baked potato it’s the place to go, stay away from the seafood!

I finally made it to the Astor… and this is a tough one to review. Let me start by saying my steak was great! Had the 20 ounce ribeye and hubby and I split it for $ 23.95 plus and extra potato for $ 2.99 But here’s the problem I have with going back again; this is not a $ 30.00 steak dinner kind of restaurant. You don’t put plastic bacon chips on a potato that accompanies a great steak. The ambiance of this place simply does not support the prices on the menu. They are way past due for a makeover. There’s other places in town with a steak equally as good,(if not a tad it better) for the same cost, and more pleasing dining area.

We will definitely be back! We were recommended by a friend, so we were forewarned not to judge a book by it’s cover. Seriously, don’t. This place was great. Great prices, perfectly cooked steaks, big portions, we were very impressed! My husband is very picky about steaks and compares every steak to his favorite steak place(which I won’t name) but he said this very well might beat it. He had the 16oz ribeye($ 23), it had great flavor! I got the small Dinner steak($ 11), it was very good, but I will probably get the ribeye next time since it has a little more flavor due to cut/more marbling. We both got salad & loaded baked potatoes. The salads were large and the lettuce was fresh/crispy(I hate wilted lettuce) and the baked potatoes were cooked perfectly.

My father had a great day at work and wanted to take us out for«Great Steaks» at this restaurant. Once my wife and I walked into the restaurant we looked at each other and wanted to leave because of the smell in the place. We decided to stay as we did not want to offend my father. All the adults in our party of 6 had steaks and we all went with the salad and baked potato options on our plate. The steaks came out perfect to our specifications, and tasted good… although the smell did effect the experience. The kids had fried shrimp and chicken tenders and enjoyed their meal. As much as I liked the preparation of the steaks, I can’t and won’t come back if they don’t do something about the smell.

WoW! All the reviews of this place are about half right. Yes it is not the most attractive places inside or out, once inside you are still thinking about walking right back out. Once inside it was not the warmest welcome but once I was seated and my server arrived who was bright chipper and helpful, I started to feel a little bit better about my decision. I ordered my drink and the 12oz ribeye with a loaded baked potato and a side salad. Promptly my tea arrived as also some toasted bread and I’m not sure what it was but tasted like a cold white gravy. Anyway the bread was good then my salad arrived with my special request of jalapeño slices with my salad. The ranch was really good a real homemade taste. The server asked how soon I would like my steak out which was unexpected but appreciated. As soon as I was done with my salad my steak arrived cooked nearly to perfection and totally acceptable. No need for sauces or additions to the steak great taste just a smidgen heavy on salt but great taste. You get the charbroiled taste out of it and the marinade shines thru. I ordered a loaded baked potato but the potato was just ehh not really exciting almost not fresh tasting Maybe cooked yesterday warmed up today? The butter on the potato is not real butter but since the potato was not fresh and hot it was not melted along with the cheese so I could eat it but just didn’t really want to. I’ll probably try a different side next time. Rolls were served with the meal and again were not hot, nothing really special. They looked really good but just cold bread. I ordered some baclava to go and when I got to my room and tried it was not digging it. Don’t know how to explain but kind of a weird aftertaste thing going on there again not feeling the fresh made today quality. All in all… I will go back. I really like hole in the wall places or more of the off the beaten path kinda thing. Steak was great! Salad was great! Ice tea was really good. Great toasted bread. Had a great server. I’ll survive the bad potato experience. Take a chance on them.
