Do not go to Younkers if you need a pair of shoes. They will not have your size. I asked to try on 9 different pairs of shoes. Not 1 pair did they have in my size 9. :(Here I come Dillards!

Agree fully with Mia C. When Younkers was locally owned, based in Des Moines, the branches and particularly the Des Moines area stores were great. Even when Younkers was bought by Proffitt’s then Saks, it maintained some elements of service. Now rather than being a full-line department store with class, it runs nothing but saleds in newspaper inserts like K-Mart, Wal-Mart etc. When Bön-Ton Inc of Pennsylvania bought Younkers, things really slid downhill. The central customer service counter were eliminated with just bare counters and only the restrooms located in that area. Sales people are there just to ring up sales. They don’t know anything about the product lines. When the Customer Service counters were cut, there went the gift wrap. When I bought an expensive wedding gift and asked for gift wrap service, I was told that Bön-Ton Inc got rid of that. I asked what to do. They told me to go to Target and wrap it myself or go over and ask Dillard’s,(a REAL old fashioned department store) to wrap it! Von Maur offers free gift wrap. As Mia said, Dillard’s and Von Maur are getting tons of new customers because of the sad shape of service at Younkers. Too bad. Younkers was once a fine store.

Best place to go shoe shopping — when they have the Yellow Dot sale where shoes are between 70−95% discount. I found a pair of very expensive boots(over $ 120) and bought them for around $ 15 and have been my favourite ever since! They have designer shoes on discounts as well, and it’s definitely my go-to location for shoe hunting!

This Younkers is small, it has your basics but nothing more than you would find at other department stores. The only bone I have to pick with this store is the fact that they have no customer service, not meaning that the employees are, howwver some are, but there is literally no customer service. They will tell you they handle customer service problems at their checkouts, but when you ask for help«oh we dont know how to do that». Boo. Just go to Dillards or Von Maur.
