Tasty! We tried Havana Café after reading a newspaper story about this new business, and we were happy. The owner is a Mexican who worked in a Cuban restaurant in Miami for many years. He served us, and he is very nice and he is happy to explain. A mall food court is an odd place for freshly cooked ethnic food. I hope they can stay in business. They have a choice of three hot dishes, ready to serve, which rotate daily. On Sunday I had a beef stew called Carne Guido. The beef was big tender chunks, and it was in a tomato sauce broth with potatoes. Dishes come with rice, and I asked for fried plantains. My wife had a pork chop dish called Chuletas and the meat again was very tender. These dishes were $ 10.50 including drink. It was a very filling meal. We also tried Yucca, which is a Cuban dish made from the succulent plant cooked tender, and that was interesting and fresh, although not very flavorful. The food was good, and cooked from scratch right there. It is much better than the factory-made food that they heat up at all the other mall food court businesses. The dishes at Havana Café are not heavily seasoned, so it should be good for the bland Midwestern customer at a mall food court. If I go back I might choose one of the Mexican style salsas they offer to spice it up. The menu also has a cuban sandwich and some desserts. They have an espresso machine for Cuban coffee, but it was not working yet.

I’m neither the most nor least adventurous eater, I stopped in here hurry on a friend’s recommendation. I was not disappointed. Had Wednesday’s chicken special, it was delicious, and so much food. Definite great value. Stop in and meet Hector, he’ll take care of you!
