We brought our family of five and my parents here and everyone LOVED the delicious food and fun atmosphere. The friendly staff provided quick service and was very attentive about refills on drinks. The pizza is SOGOOD… fresh ingredients, and my ten year old son enjoyed watching the chefs twirl and spin the pizza dough on one finger. Our appetizers, bruschetta and wings were really good too. We will definitely be back!

I feel like I’ve become somewhat of a pizza snob, not full blown, but I have tried enough pies that my palette has been expanded. Mellow Mushroom was ok. I didn’t get the eyes rolling into the back of my head, nor did I utter the words, «OMG». I simply thought, it was decent. I won’t be anxious for my next return or be bragging about the sauce, toppings or crust. My kiddos thought the décor was cool. They all ordered pretzels making me unable to give their verdicts on the pies either. The staff was pretty friendly even despite our waitress messing up our order.

Love the magical mystery tour pizza! They really cater to vegetarians and gluten free diets. Our friends are vegetarians and now we have a place we can all go and enjoy. Great beer selection, over 200! The service is great too. The waitstaff and bartenders are attentive and friendly. The restaurant is decorated in a fun theme, love the spinning cow. The bar is fun to sit at too. We love Wednesday trivia night. If you haven’t, check it out. We play often and they offer great prizes including $ 50 gift certificate and free beer. We have eaten here many times and it will continue to be one of our favorite places.

Mellow mushroom has amazing food and great staff! Their breakfast pizza is seriously the best pizza I have ever had. Not to mention the largest beer selection!

Stopped in tonight with my 11 year old son for a boys night out. We were greeted and seated promptly in a genuine and friendly manor. Our waitress came over immediately and welcomed us asking if we had been there before. My son had, I had not. She said welcome back! to my son, showed me around the menu since it was my first time. She told us the special was a large for the price of a small. We took her up on it and soon had our pizza delivered hot from the oven. The crust had a nice chew and the pizza was well put together with quality ingredients. Overall a great family restaurant. I didn’t try anything from the bar so I have no input on that. The layout is a well thought out space theme. There was obviously a ton of work and thought that went into it and they really pulled it off. Great time with my son and he really enjoys the place. Knowing the price around town for pizza I thought the prices were very inexpensive, expecially when you factor in the special that we took advantage of tonight. One large pizza 2 toppings and 2 sodas with 25% tip was $ 20.65.(Factoring in the special price).

My friends and I love coming in here for Trivia on Wednesday nights! Great food and the owner runs the trivia and he’s so nice and creates a great atmosphere! For food, I’ve liked everything that I’ve had here, but my favorite is definitely the meatballs on the munchies menu! They’re amazing!

Open at 7am before Iowa football games! I get the breakfast pizza. They make it with a beer cheese sauce and it is excellent! Breakfast pitas are very good as well. Have them add grilled peppers & onions!

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the Mellow Mushroom. It hailed back to the days in North Carolina when it was a spot we go when we wanted something familiar but something a little bit different. They’ve done a very good job of continuing this trend here. You can enter from inside or outside the mall. It makes it nice as we are often times are coming from the theater or from The Children’s Museum. Upon entering you find two sides of the restaurant, one side a bar with a ton of big high def TVs and the other side which is general seating for families and those more interested in conversation. In the middle of the restaurant is a delightful silver sparkling cow spinning on top of a pole. It certainly makes for some good conversation! After being seated we were greeted quite promptly by our server, who I think may have been one of the managers as well. His name is Drew and he was incredibly helpful. It felt like just about everyone there had decided that they were going to have a crappy day and we’re going to let drew know about it. The place is busy, but we felt like they were doing a very good job of keeping up with everything. Most importantly, they did it with a smile. For our meal we started with some parmesan pretzels and marinara sauce. In retrospect I would have ordered the cheese sauce because hey, can you ever really have enough cheese? They were pizza dough in the shape of pretzels with the aforementioned Parmesan cheese and some garlic oil on them. They were well worth getting in something that we would try again in the future. We got the Holy Shittaki pizza — the one with mushrooms, truffle oil and a white sauce. This thing was really really good! Good amount of flavor but not overpowering. It could have even used a bit more truffle to complement the Earthyness the mushrooms. Regardless it was excellent! Well I didn’t have a beer for lunch that day, the beer list was quite impressive. They looked to have 30 + beers on tap and 50 or more different bottles. The nice thing is it wasn’t a bunch of Sam Adams or different flavors of Budweiser, they actually had a really legitimate beer. All in all, a very good spot that’s great for groups, a date, the kids or by yourself. Solid pizza, good beer, nice appetizers and good people!

Just right! Our adult/kid mix needed a pre-iowa game spot last Saturday and this was a great choice for us. The pizza was really good, we all liked the crust. Standout pizza was philosopher, really tasty! The cheese pizza was also really good as was the spinach salad. We had hummus and spinach dip as appetizers too, both were solid. Our group of die hard Hawkeye fans appreciated the key football plays displayed around the bar area(along with the cool Herky statue) we had a great time guessing the plays. There also was an excellent selection of beers! Bottom line, we’d be happy to go again– pizza was good and the owner was terrific in accommodating our large party!

This restaurant has lots of fun puns to dress up the menu item names. Plus, the pizza has gluten free options, but the regular pizzas are much better than regular pizza restaurant chains. There was good variety of fresh ingredients. First time going there, will come back.

I have been to many other Mellow Mushroom locations so I was excited to see one in Corralville. Décor is cool. Not often you get to mix hawkeye stuff with psychedelic and aliens. Unfortunately this new location still going through some growing pains service and food-wise. First, when the waitress took our order, she offered chocolate milk to our 2 little kids, so we had to order it to avoid meltdowns, as they were both pretty tired, even though they generally only get chocolate milk as a special treat. Second service issue was that we had the pizza on our table for 5 – 10 minutes before I could flag anyone down for silverware. Also, I tried to order a soda 3 times before I finally got one towards the end of our dinner.(Wasn’t charged for it. Mostly because she had already brought our bill having forgotten about the soda for the second time.) Finally, the food: My wife and I love MM pizza, but tonight the crust was slightly overdone making it tough and dry, especially on the bottom. Toppings were good but the pie overall wasn’t what I had come to expect. Hopefully they will figure everything out soon. I’ll update review if improvements are made if we visit again.

Good place to go with the family. We had a large party with 4 young kids. Food was pretty average, beer selection was great and service could have been better(it’s in a mall and the mall and restaurant were packed due to the rainy weather on a weekend). Not a good place for a date but a good average quick place to eat with the family while at the mall.

Pros: food quality, food price, service, location, décor Cons: prep time Summary: highly recommend(especially for gluten free and dairy free folks) I’ve only had their house special pizza on a gluten free crust with the daiya cheese so far and I have to say that it’s really good. The pizza was fresh and the vegan cheese was very cheese like. We liked the food so much that we came back a second time in the same week. The ambiance was great, the service was nice and the manager even swung by to ask us about our experience. The pizza did take about 30 minutes but they make it from scratch. I didn’t know this the first time I was there but the restaurant has its own theme and everything in the restaurant has a story. Wednesday is trivia night and they had some beer specials, so don’t expect the place to be quiet.

They served the best gluten-free, dairy-free pizza I’ve ever had! The crust was thin, crispy and delicious. At some restaurants, the gluten-free bread tastes stale and/or freezer burnt. Not so here. The fake cheese was also really good. It was white and tasted like actual cheese. Non-dairy cheese that actually tastes and resembles real cheese is rare in my experience. I was very, very happy with the quality of this pizza, particularly with my dietary requirements. I would not recommend their cocktails. My boyfriend and I both had one. They were not well mixed and tasted watered down. And to top it off, they were pricy. The atmosphere was cool. I enjoyed the odd décor. The place was clean. The staff was friendly. I LOVED that they played 90s music the whole time! We couldn’t help singing along to the majority of the songs. There weren’t many people there, so we had a nice private spot at their huge bar. The service was helpful and pleasant, although a little slow at first despite the place being relatively empty. Overall, we had a great experience and the pizza especially bumped up the rating. I’ll be coming back.

Okay. I’m updating this because when I give an average or below review and a place does something great I feel it’s important to say so. Im not a fan of this places pizza as my other review states, the hoagie was average especially for the price but the calzone I just had was out of this world. Most calzones have so much dough but every once in awhile you get a place that really does it right and gives you a great balance of ingredients to crust. Mellow Mushroom Coralville did this superbly. The crust was so light and crisp. Overflowing with cheese and ingredients. It was delicious. For this I will return! I must say this was easily the friendliest server(Havana? I believe) that I’ve experienced at this location. Warm, welcoming and absolutely on top of everything.

Upon entering Mellow Mushroom, I quickly looked at the Unilocal reviews and had pretty low expectations as we sat down. They are known for their pizza here, but I decided to try their hoagies lunch special. Got the spiked sausage hoagie(half) with a side salad. Salad was sub par, pretty normal. But the spiked sausage hoagie was delicious. It was a little unexpected. I just wish it could have been a little bigger(the large ones aren’t worth the price, especially for lunch time). It was greasy, juicy, and very tasty. Lots of grilled onions, peppers, cheeses, with a garlic aioli sauce in it. Smaller than I had hoped it would be, but left pretty satisfied. I’d come back to get this hoagie again or try their pizzas to see what they’re like. Oh, and had a bite of someones«magic mushroom soup». Not the best name in my opinion. But it was pretty tasty/creamy, a bit better than it sounded on paper.

The pizza is good, the beer selection is very good. Both times I’ve been here, the wait to be seated has been too long, 45min. plus. The servers are attentive, and polite, but inexperienced. The wait for food can be pretty long, too. Pizzas took at least 45 minutes both times. For now, I will assume they are still working the kinks out. Hopefully it starts running more smoothly and becomes competitive with nearby options.

Mellow Mushroom opened this week in Coral Ridge Mall, in the space formerly occupied by Bennigan’s. The space is built out with a sci-fi theme, plus a rotating disco cow in the center. Yep, Iowa. The beer selection is surprisingly good – comparable to 30hop, Sanctuary. They had HopSlam on tap! Nearly 50 beers on tap, including many local Iowa options, plus a bunch more in bottles. The main attraction food-wise is the pizza. We tried the two vegetarian options, the one with mushrooms/garlic and the other with sun dried tomatoes and pesto. The mushrooms/garlic pizza packed a ton of flavor, the other not so much. We also had the caprese salad appetizer, which was decent. The vegetarian options do give Mellow Mushroom a leg up on other beer-centered restaurants in the Iowa City/Coralville area, which are typically lacking in this regard. Good spot for families with kids – the surroundings provide plenty of distraction – and is distinctively casual. Go there expecting lots of noise, somewhat busy(though polite) servers. If we’re in the mall shopping and feel the need for a slice of pizza and a beer, it’s nice to have this option as a place to go.
