El Pollo Dorado

Best chicken ever! You’ll forget about pollo loco or even the Costco rotisserie chicken. Every single person I who has had, it loves it. Definitely a MUST.

I’ve been on a kick trying to find great charbroiled or rotisserie chicken and tri tip closer than El Pollo Norteno in Oxnard. Despite no tri tip, I came and had the dinner plate ½ chicken. It’s simply blah… meh…average…nothing to compel me to return. The chicken was overly salty with no other seasoning on the skin or meat. It was on the dry side… overcooked having been held on a container instead of taken right off the rotisserie. The rice was white with only a few bits of leftover chicken. The potato salad was more homemade than out of the tub. The beans had no flavor. Even the salsa was bland.

This place is kinda small, so probably not great for a group of friends. However, the chicken is tasty as well as the side dishes, especially the potato salad. Their regular pico de gallo salsa didn’t taste very fresh to me or my friend, and when I asked the guy working there if he’d swap it for a different one, he wasn’t super nice about it… other than that, the prices are good and food is also pretty good. =)

I come here at least twice a week to get lunch. For only $ 5 i get half of a chicken, tortillas, and salsa. Their chicken is delicious!!! The guys that work there are friendly. Their prices are super cheap. I definately will keep coming for lunch and maybe even over the weekend to get a family dinner.

The chicken is good. I tried their two chicken special. I would not recommend eating inside. It is always so hot in there. The parking is always full too because there are other business’.

Great food, awesome folks delicious food. Need I say more? No. But I will. The chicken is always moist and flavorful. The rotisserie Bird always has a golden brown skin and the seasoning is impeccable. The potato salad is some of the best and for a restaurant that’s not a a regular occurrence. The potato salad includes olive, carrots and other ingredients that gives it great balance, texture and flavor. I’m not really a fan of beans. I’m not sure what type they are but they’re great as well. Ever time I’ve had food from this place Jose (The Owner) has given great service and fresh food. I’d recommend this restaurant to anyone that wants good service, a GREAT meal at awesome prices.

The only reason I am giving this place 5 stars is because the chicken was very tasty, well seasoned and juicy. The salsa was also really good, not to mention the potato salad that goes on the side also flavorful!!!

I really hate to do this, but I feel I should. Yesterday I ordered a lunch special, and before finishing it, I started to feel sick (sweaty, dizzy, faint). I have been in bed for over 12 hours ever since eating from there. I truly don’t know what the problem was, since I eat from there about twice a month and have never had a problem. I apologize to the management for this unpleasant review, but I did become ill after eating your food. I will no longer buy food from there again, best wishes to you.

I just catered a 35 person lunch from this place. First time buying their «party pack» for a large group. They supplied all the necessary utensils for no extra charge! Sweeet. Makes it ez to pack and go.
The highlights were definitely the chicken, potato salad and hot salsa. These got very high marks from my clients. The packs come with rice, beans, salad, dressing, potato salad, salsa, tortillas, etc.
I almost forgot, the most important thing with these catering deals is that they’re ready ON TIME. I called the day before and made a pick up time of 10:30. I got there and it was being packed up hot. I feel comfortable using them again for that reason.
So 5 stars isn’t usually what I give places but they actually deserve it if my picky clients are 100% happy with their lunch. Good work guys :) Thanks!

I’m on a Rotisserie chicken kick this week.
And while searching for a new place to eat near work, what do I find. Another rotisserie chicken place.
It had a 4 star rating and really close too. That peaked my interest and had to try it.
It’s a small place in a busy plaza on Rosecrans Ave & Long Beach Blvd.
It was quite busy when I got here even though it was pass 1 pm, a good sign for sure.
I got the dinner special (#2)
½ chicken with potato salad, rice, beans, 3 tortilla and a medium drink for $ 6.25 that’s a great deal.
The chicken was dry, very dry and I think I know why. After the chicken are done cooking in the rotisserie, they are placed in a hot box to keep it warm. There were a lot of them in there. The chicken I got probably was in there a long time. The chickens were also very small. Almost like Cornish hens, maybe a little bit bigger, but not much more.
The sides were very good.
Potato salad was very very good. Delicious.
Rice (some Unilocalers refer to it as Spanish rice) was very tasty.
Beans were whole beans and tasted good.
Salsa was also very good.
I got a horchata for my drink, not as cinnamon (y) as I’m used too but good enough.
Service was friendly and fast.
I think if I got a freshly cooked chicken it would have made a difference, a big difference. It’s not a good thing when I enjoyed the sides more than the main entrée.
Would I come back? Probably. It’s really close to my office and the price is very reasonable, but with so many rotisserie places in the area, it might be a while.

I love this bird, very good taste. Having some now, oops, almost bit my finger off.

My grandma approve this spot… and I love her cooking more than ever so that begin said it’s A MUST HAVE.

I tried this place about a month ago and have been hooked since. I got a lot of food for my money

Food is very good. The facility needs some TLC and definite rearranging (feels very awkward when you order and wait, especially if other people are waiting/​ordering too), but it’s clean and the staff are very nice. One of the few healthier choices you can have in Compton so enjoy it while it lasts!
I’ll definitely be back!

Usually my advice would be to run, run, run FROM the ghetto bird. But in the case of El Pollo Dorado you should run, run, run TO this ghetto bird. El Pollo Dorado lies smack dab in the middle of the hood in Compton in an otherwise unassuming little strip mall but the flavor of that bird is anything but little. It is rotisserie style chicken (pollo asada) that is juicy, loaded with flavor, and the meat literally falls off the bone. I myself have never been a fan of chicken skin but the skin on the bird at EPD is so insanely delicious that I could eat a taco with just chicken skin! Okay maybe not but my point is the skin is on hit! For sides I usually go with the rice and beans. The rice has chunks of chicken in it and has a subtle chicken broth taste. Yummo! The frijoles are on point and the salsa has a nice kick to it. They also offer potato salad. They have all kinds of combos and deals like $ 5.99 for ½ a chicken, 2 sides, and a soda or if that’s not enough bird they have a buy two whole chickens get one free for $ 18.99. They are constantly roasting birds up in here so it’s never a long wait to get a pollo fix up in this joint.

Great rotisserie chicken at an even better price. The chicken is always moist, and the sides are always consistant. I spend about $ 7 a trip, and I have enought for lunch or a snack later. Nice and fresh

I actually love this place! Kind of a hole in the wall in your commonly found strip mall. The rotisserie chicken is delicious and I especially LOVE the potato salad! Their potato salad is smoother than your average and also has carrots, olives and onions in it too. They put chicken in their white rice, which I love! I would give it 5 stars, but the seating area is not that great.

I’ve never actually had a sit-​down meal here, but we order party trays for almost all our family parties. Their rotisserie chicken is amazing, always juicy, and always flavorful. Their Spanish rice is also delicious, with a side of beans and their homemade salsa. They also have amazing homemade potato salad.
Party platter prices are pretty decent. (~$ 110 for 10 whole, roasted chickens) I definitely recommend that this place caters your next function.
