This spot has been around for years. Im almost positive it’s been around longer than I’ve been alive. So glad that it has last so long in this community. My dad used to bring me here for milkshakes all the time as kind. So good! Best fish sandwiches in town. If I’m not getting a fish sandwich, I’m getting some ribs/rib tips or a big pork chop sandwich. Love the fries and mac n cheese. Don’t let the appearance deter you! Worth the trip! Friendly staff and very reasonable prices.

People are afraid of the neighborhood? Are you kidding me? This isn’t a glamorous and snobby area, true, but our neighborhood spots aren’t dangerous to visit. Good grief. Get your scared, sheltered butts off of the computer, tv and fantasy land and get out and live life a little. It’s a Southside of Columbus place, and has been there for many, many years. I remember hanging out with their son back in the day. They do’t put on airs, it’s honest soul food and done the way it should be. Imagine going to a great BBQ at a friend’s house where their mom and dad and grandfolk are in charge of the food. Yes. That is the flavor! I agree on the fried pork chops. I would never imagine me going to place and choosing pork chops, but o.m.g. they are so goooood! And don’t you dare go out the door without sampling those green. They really put their foot in it.(If you don’t understand the slang, no problem. It means they put a piece of their very heart and soul in it, and you are eating real family style cooking, from people who care.) But don’t take my word. Try it. And try the other meats, they are a carnivore’s dream. They have limited hours. Call before you go to make sure they are open — but trust me, this is a bucket list place to eat before you take a dirt nap forever and ever.

Bryant M. and I finally made it here; I have driven past and seen the rib tips sign so I knew I was going eventually, and Bryant mentioned it a while back. Sweetie refused to go; it’s not in the best neighborhood, and for some reason rib tips don’t exert the same siren call on her… As Bryant said, it’s really not that scary. The outside of the building is, well, not appealing. The inside is nicer, and the owner was super friendly. There is seating, but business seems to be mostly carryout. There’s a big menu, with all the things you could ever want: barbecue, fish, chicken, and a few other things like burgers and dogs. Bryant got ribs, coleslaw, and baked beans. I got rib tips and a small perch sandwich, plus greens. Neither of us could finish the portions– there’s a lot, and it’s good. The rib tips were fine, but not the best I’ve ever had. Moist, meaty, with good flavor, but still, «good not great.» The fish sandwich was perfect– the bun a fluffy holder for perfectly friend perch. The breading is more floury, battery, than the cornmeal I expected; still, it was done just right. The greens were great– flavorful and meaty, just as I expect my health food to be… I’ll be back for beef ribs, and to explore the rest of the menu.

I drive by this place on the way to visit family in Bexley. I’ve always wanted to try it, but never have. My girlfriend’s sister had a baby and we offered to bring them dinner one night. Thankfully they had a hankering for some BBQ. Finally I finally had an excuse to try this place! We got a slab of beef ribs, a slab of pork ribs and a half of a chicken. It was HANDSDOWN the best barbeque I’ve had, possibly ever(sorry dad). The beef ribs looked like they came off of a dinosaur. I felt like Fred Flintstone. The meat on the pork ribs were falling off the bone. You can tell this is a place that puts time and love into their food. I have been singing their praises ever since i ate there. I cannot wait to try more of the menu.

ok. I can;t believe only one person reviewed this place. Columbus has some of the best food I’ve eaten which is saying a lot bc i live/work in dc area.(See the Jamaican place a couple streets over… something pot? Sweet pot?) BESTBBQONTHEPLANET! and is indeed like a family member. Where to start? Things i would never think i’d eat, like a fried porkchop on white bread as a sandwich?! AMAZING. And i would NEVER contemplate eating such a thing, and when i go here, i get the monster version… Fried chicken, pork ribs, beef ribs, never had their fish though. Their bbq sauce is undescribeable. Their greens are perfect. My son loves the mac and cheese. They have milkshakes and the prices are good. Get the porkchop sandwich. I know, but trust me. GETIT. and then get ribs and chicken and lots of extra sauce and greens. WEEE! H Johnson’s I HEART you!!!
