Great atmosphere for a neighborhood bar, good beer selection, great service. Pool table and juke box.

Friendly, casual, and fun, with consistently good food, that’s the Hey Hey in a nutshell. Hey Hey is a neighborhood bar like it is meant to be — people are friendly, the regulars have their own seats(for real — the exact same folks sitting in the same chairs every time we go) and you never need to get fancied up to have a good time. The atmosphere is super-casual, with windows that let in a lot of light to the bar area. Bar activities can be had in the back, and there is a smoking patio out back. There is a good variety of beers on tap and in bottles, and if you are feeling like a mixed drink, they will oblige. Food here is excellent, most especially the sauerkraut balls — we tried the jalapeño ones with sriracha brown mustard and yeah — those are keepers. They still have the yak burgers, too. Tip: they serve a limited menu on Sunday, and by limited, I mean only sauerkraut balls. We really do love it here, and wish it was our neighborhood bar(maybe someday).

This place is a true dive bar. They have been around forever and are in a great location for us to frequent. I’ll admit, we started going to Hey Hey when they had the pop up kitchen Bebe there, but even without Bebe, they are a cool bar. It is loud, dingy, and dark, but it’s the exact dive bar I like to spend my evenings. They do a blues night which is free and a great treat. I highly recommend going to Hey Hey if you’re looking for a divey experience.

This spot is a local landmark. They are great all nights, but I am reviewing them for the Blues Jams they do on Wednesdays. My daughter plays there all the time and there is nothing like a neighborhood place that is laid back and comforting. Their pizza is legit, but omg, their sauerkraut balls are fab. There are plenty of tvs and a lot of really cool, responsible and respectable people that i know go here. It isn’t the type of place that you don’t feel safe in, or afraid to go out to your car when you leave. Trust me, no bar fights or gun shots here. The music is in the back part. I will warn you that as a jam, it CAN get loud. No lie there. BUT. they are so cool to offer the bar for musicians to have a spot to play the blues. Many of Columbus’s best musicians(some who play professionally, and tour) show up here. Some famous names pop in from time to time when they are performing concerts in the city or nearby. If you love live music, drop by on Wednesdays. If music isn’t your thing, come another night 8) Just show up and eat some Sauerkraut balls. Have a few beers. It’s like Cheers. Everyone knows everyone else’s name. One thing that I will say, after reading some other reviews — this isn’t a place trendy youngsters will like. Nothing against them, but it is more of an older, neighborhood type of crowd. It’s the bar you go to, and your friends in the neighborhood go to, as well. People walk here from their homes or drive a few blocks to pop in. For the jams, a few people drive a few hours to get there and they do it every week. They like the place, the people, the whole ‘feel’ to the Hey Hey. It is what it is, and it does it marvelously! Love you, Hey Hey.

This review is absolute fodder for the, «Yelp is dumb» crowd, admittedly. Super, super not 21. Wildly overage. Walked in, waited forever to be served, wouldn’t serve us because one in our WILDLYOVERAGE party left his ID in the car. I mean, okay, sure, I gueeeesss, but you are a shitty bar in a nice part of town. How often, exactly, are underage children with beards and business attire trying to secretly order an ale at your bar? Never. How often do you have a shitty, sassy, unaccommodating bartender ensure a group of people will never be back? At least once.

The Hey Hey is an AWESOME neighborhood bar! Whether I’m with friends or stopping by for a drink by myself I always leave with a smile on my face. Maggie and Pat have been my bartenders on the occasions I’ve stopped by, and they are very attentive and knowledgable about special request drinks.(Ask for Pat’s Blue Lagoon, you won’t regret it!) I love the Hey Hey!

I’ve decided this is my new go to place for a casual bite to eat or happy hour. Really great food. Small plates apparently done by Swoop. I’m confused as to when they serve food. Some on here say Thur-Sat but I think they might nightly. It also sounds like they serve as a location for pop ups. Currently Bebe? That being said I wonder two things. Is food offered every night? How often does the pop up chef change or is it consistent? Cool concept but they don’t have a website to verify. We had gone here a couple of weeks ago on a Tuesday and there was some confusion from the bartender about kitchen service that night. Two people came out from the back and offered their profuse apologies and explained they had been short staffed. They handled the situation beautifully so we went back last night. Atmosphere: AWESOME. Not to loud that you couldn’t talk but friendly people all around. Some people have said it has the dive bar atmosphere. It’s very clean and inviting. Not pretentious at all. Server was really great also. Food: SUPERAWESOME. We had the mac and cheese, sliders, chicken and biscuit and sauerkraut balls. All delicious. If the concept is the menu constantly changes I’m super stoked.

Chef was nice enough to come out of his area to see how we liked the food; that was chill. It was not a try hard spot either. They spiced up the menu but didnt give a fuck about their space. The bar is in German village whatever that means and the service was nice. The menu had stuff like pickled this and pickled that to pardon everything else that was mundane about this restaurant. The chicken biscuit was enjoyable and so was its cost. The baked mac and cheese was terrible though. Something nuked and had a burnt layer on top. Had a fun time; but flat out would not recommend take your mula down to popeyes and get a $ 3 combo that probably would be more comforting.

Don’t let the looks of this place fool you. The food is top notch. The chef behind The Swoop Food truck takes over the kitchen Tuesday thru Saturday. Everything that we’ve tried on the menu is delicious with the Yak burger being our favorite. The owners/bartenders are about as friendly as they come. We like to go on Wednesday when they have free music.

I have read about the epic rivalry of Hey Hey and Schmidt’s for that delectable Ohio soul food: sauerkraut balls. Not until this weekend did I finally get to try Hey Hey’s. At the Dublin Irish Festival of all places.(Hey, they involve cabbage and pork products, so they could be Irish, right?) I love ya’, Schmidt’s, but Hey Hey wins the Sauerkraut Ball battle, in my humble opinion.

Debated between 2 or 3 stars, but since I’m reviewing food, I’m sticking with 2. I get it, this is a great neighborhood bar: cheap drinks, low key vibe and friendly bartenders. But, this is not a place for dinner. We ordered the yak burger and the buffalo chicken biscuit. The burger was double stacked(cool) on a nice tasty bun(cool) with two paper thin yak patties(not cool) drowned in mayo(not cool) and served with a side of 6 vinegar soaked potato wedges(not cool). And by paper thin patties, I mean that if you were to combine those two patties, it would still be half a regular burger patty. The buffalo chicken biscuit was pretty well put together except the fried chicken was dunked in an oil well and shot by a shrink ray which turned it into a 3 inch sandwich — no fries. A big fat WHOMP.

A solid 4 star experience. I visited on a Thursday evening. It was apparent that the bar has many regulars — when I walked in, everyone stopped and looked at me as if I didn’t belong, which was weird. The drinks were cold and reasonably priced. The food was really good. My BF and I got a few things to share — sauerkraut balls, a kale salad, pimento cheese melts, and wings. The sauerkraut balls were delicious. The sauce that came with them was excellent. I was a fan of the kale salad — the almond ranch dressing was great. The wings had an apple glaze which was light and not too messy. I wasn’t too crazy about the cheese melt, but my BF liked it a lot. I liked that the chef came out and asked how the food was. Overall, the service was friendly. This place is a dive — expect a little dirt and some junk laying around. They charge to use a credit card, just FYI. A good night. Exactly what I expected based on the other reviews.

I really wanted to like this place. The inside is spacious with a pool table or two. There is ample free parking, and a $ off most beer during happy hour is pretty cool. The draft selection left a lot to be desired, and those weren’t on special any way. The bottles weren’t too bad at all, and they seem open to having events there, but service was slow as the bartender was a bit overwhelmed. Anyways, it’s a cool spot in a fun part of town, so I’d definitely go back and check it out again.

This is a fun neighborhood bar in Merion Village. It’s in a funky older building that lends it almost as much character as the regulars do. I’ve been several times for the Swoop! Food Truck kitchen takeover(Thursday through Saturday evenings) and really enjoyed the food, drink, and atmosphere. The staff is rather friendly and always seems to recognize John and me — which is a nice touch. Nothing’s too expensive. The TVs are always going.

Yay Yay it’s the Hey Hey! This place has been here for ages, mostly untouched. Now you can find the COOP cooking from its kitchens on Thursday — Saturday nights. I also hear she has brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. They’re two separate businesses that facilitate each other, though, so don’t think of it as «the Hey Hey has food now» … think of it as «hey, you can get COOP at the Hey Hey!» Make sense? Subtle differences. I love that I can walk here. It’s unassuming, full of regulars and a sometimes-surly staff. The beer selections are not plentiful, necessarily, but you’ll find something you like. There’s usually a Great Lakes on tap, I think. Last time we went, someone in my group wanted a cider and there were at least four different bottled options, including a ginger cider that was pretty good. I prefer the Hey Hey a little more in the wintertime. It’s dark and snuggly, not bright with a patio. Oh, and they’re SUPER strict on IDs. Every time I’ve been in, they’ve been sticklers about checking. Make sure you have yours!

It’s the definition of an elite dive bar. Excellent beers on tap, absolutely nothing in the way of trendy-décor or matching decorations, a staff that doesn’t take any guff(that’s right… guff), and NOW, a fantastic bar grub menu courtesy of the COOP. Don’t come here if you’re looking for a classy establishment or even one that feels particularly clean. It’s not true, but my mental image of the bathroom is a torture chamber with chains on the wall. Again, not true, but that’s the general vibe of this place. It’s exactly what you want in a dive — absolutely none of the frills, just good booze, good food, and cheap prices. Bonuses: you can play KENO, and your bar tab is kept on a post-it note. Side tip: they card here, vigorously. So, even if you’re a 30-year-old with mostly gray hair, bring your ID, or prepare to be chastised and maybe kicked out.

Hey Hey is a shotgun style bar in an older building sitting just inside Merion Village on the southern border with German Village. I’d heard good things about the place for a few years, and seen their booth at Octoberfest so I knew they served some German food too, but due to its southerly location, I’d never stopped in. That changed some months ago when I was waiting for a friend who lived a few doors down to get ready. I told her I’d just chill and have a drink at Hey Hey because I’d been meaning to check it out anyway. The bartender began talking to me immediately on account of having never seen me before. I was carded for the same reason, which didn’t bother me at all. Once establishing that I was indeed of age and a real customer, the bartender began a line of inquiry into what brought me to the place. He’s apparently been tending the bar here a long time. He said he knew everyone in the neighborhood, and even ended up knowing my friend’s roommate, who owns the house in question. So it would be fair to say this is a neighborhood bar. This has been some months back now, but I believe I recalled at least one pool table at the far end of the bar. The bar itself is immediately to the left when you walk in, and is an L-shaped number running toward the back. There were a few TVs, tuned to the news as opposed to sportscenter. I ordered a Jameson on the rocks, which was average priced, because I like to nurture my beer and didn’t think I’d have enough time to sit and enjoy it properly. The other patrons were friendly too, a few exchanged niceties with me while I sat. All in all, this is a decent bar that I might frequent regularly if I lived in the vicinity. The bartender was probably the highlight, and if you live in the area and haven’t gone, you should give it a try.

With a name like Hey Hey it’s hard not to like this place. Lots of beer choices by the bottle(displayed in a glass case) and a few on tap. There’s ample seating in the bar area and a large space in the back with electronic dart boards, etc. $ 1 surcharge for credit card usage. Diverse crowd, great jukebox. And fun fact: apparently, it’s been a bar since 1900 even while going«underground» during the prohibition era.
