International Salon and Spa Academy

Received a great cut today from Courtney. I can’t believe it was only a $ 9 haircut (easily a $ 50 – 60 cut anywhere else.) Wonderful customer service! Will certainly be coming back.

Update– Back at ISSA for a color service. Once again, my senior student was great! My only concern– I had to remind her to clean up the edges of my face, where dye had spilled. I think most stylists would take a once-​over look at the client, and catch the missed dye clean-​up. My service also included a protein treatment, which my student performed flawlessly. New rule– you can’t tip your student on your credit card. Bring cash for your tip. I ended up running the tip for my student back by the school that day. This school remains one of the best to get a service from, still.

I went on a Monday for the ladies day discount. I paid $ 5 for my haircut and shampoo. My stylist was Haley! She was a joy to be around. I loved my entire experience there and WILL be coming back!

This is the worst place to go to school. They do not teach well. The aren’t helpful. Honestly I feel like they help you to the bare minimum to put you on the floor to get paying customers money. There’s a lot of unsanitary situations and the instructors aren’t certified in some of the areas they teach. Honestly you could teach your self with the book by your self in an empty classroom because that is where they will put you as soon as they get new enrolls even when you aren’t done.

I am extremely impressed with Jessica that is a student here at the Academy. She is about to graduate and do amazing things with her life but the Academy as a whole is amazing. The prices are low since this is a school and they do everything from facials, to hair, to waxing, to manicures. The teachers are always watching the students work and they have to sign off and check everything before the student can continue on your hair, for anyone that has second thoughts about a beginner hair stylist. And if they do mess up you don’t have to pay and you can come back, get it fixed, and still not pay anything until it’s done right. I say it’s an all in all «total package» here at International Salon and Spa Academy!

I went in for a facial. I was greeted immediately and asked to take a seat (I got there several minutes early). I was greeted by the very friendly esthetician student and brought back to a nice facial room. It did take several minutes for her to return with the product, but she explained that it takes a while to get everything ready. Considering that she is a student and I am paying a fraction of the price for a regular facial, that wasn’t a big deal to me, as long as I still got a complete facial, which I did. The facial was great and I loved the hand and arm massage. I will definitely go back!

Awful place to get your hair done, a few of the ladies are wonderful, but the others don’t do a good job at all. I went to get highlights and it took the girl 3 hours and I still had to go back because she kept messing up. If your looking for a cheap place I would instead recommend the salon professional academy or tony and guy academy.

I went on Saturday 2÷23÷13 for a facial and was greeted promptly. I was early so I took a seat and soon enough Melissa came over and greeted me and we went over a survey on what I was looking for, she was very through and got to know what I needed in skin care and maintenance. I was escorted into a private area where I was instructed on what I needed to do to get ready. This was a very clean and pleasant room with soft music playing. She explained all that she was doing a long the way at my request. Next time I’m just going to tell her to go for it and nap!!! What a wonderful experience. While the mask was on I got a lovely hand and arm massage. I couldn’t of been happier with this experience and will be back! 1 hr facial was 15.00 w/​a 5.00 tip.

So I was looking for a place to get a trim without having to break the bank. I am not looking into a full fledge hair cut where the stylist will have to figure out the cut and do layering and all that jazz (growing my hair out for locks of love), but I wanted an all around trim to keep my hair looking healthy and get rid of my split ends.
So what do i do? I look online. I saw reviews for different salons, and I called a few to get a price. WOW. Can you say sticker shock? $ 80 for a trim. Really? Ok. Nuf said. I looked into the beauty schools as I don’t trust any hairdressers stateside anyhow, so I might as well go to a student so I won’t be mad at her for giving me a bad cut cause A) she is just learning and B) i was not charged a ridiculous amount for a bad cut.
So off i go searching for schools. Then I read Kristin’s review. AWESOME job Kristin btw! I loved the tip about the discount night and I love that she wrote the price of what she paid for a cut and dry. No one ever writes prices in their reviews ;)
I called. They fit me in within an hour or so. My stylist was Santana. LOL. I know. Her parents must love his music or something. Anyways. She was great. Contrarily to what I have been accustomed to with students, she was very secure and professional. She asked me the questions on the questionnaire (hence the minus one star… they were über dumb! Ex. ‘give me 5 adjectives that describe both your hair style AND your personality’ …Uhhhhhhhhhhh? Next question please!). She then asked me what I wanted and without further ado she took me to the washing station, shampooed my hair and then kindly sent me back to the chair while she cleaned up the sink. She joined me promptly and asked me a couple of more questions regarding the cut and what I wanted my hair to do and without a fuss she combed my hair and cut her guide. Wow, no instructor to talk to first? No insecurities about the first snip? Awesome. I like a confident stylist! She cut all my hair and then stopped at the bangs. She called over the instructor to check on the cut. It was perfect. There were only very minor tweaking done. Then the instructor told her how to cut my bangs and she followed instructions and cut away. Wow again! This has never happened to me in 7 yrs of student’s haircuts. Usually the instructor does the bangs cutting, since it’s right to the face and can be easily messed up. Nope, Santana did it. And a fine job she did.
Like I said. It was nothing special, not a fancy haircut of sorts… just a trim of cut and bangs, but still she did a great job and for $ 5 + the $ 5 i gave her in tips I walked out with a happy smile and a refreshed cut. Me likey. I will update the review if anything changes (obviously you see new ppl here every time since they only cut on hair when they are about to graduate, so chances are the next time you go in your stylist will be long gone and hopefully employed in a real salon)…but so far I am happy to have found this place.
I may try the beautician part too. It doesn’t hurt with the prices there are around and the economy being so crappy. Am always up to save a penny if you know what I mean!

My mom went on a Monday (ladies night $ 5) for a haircut+wash and I went on a Tuesday ($ 8) haircut+wash. Every step of the way the students have a professor who checks and adjusts their work. My mom says that it was the best haircut that she ever had. =) I really liked mine too =).
I had made a mess of my hair by cutting it at home and the student-​hair-​stylist fixed it without me losing length! I’m still able to pony tail it which makes me happy.
The student that cut my hair was friendly and professional. There was a professor that actually brought me tea and cream too! It was a bright and spacious place with interesting art on the walls.
They also have a card where if you get 6 haircuts, you get the 7^th free.
We loved the service and our haircuts. We’re planning on going back to get our nails done.

I heard this was a good place to get an inexpensive salon treatment. They do everything from hair to nails to skin to waxing. This is a beauty school, so the technicians are students who are still in training.
Thursday night is 25% off spa services, so I went in for a bikini wax. I should have known better. It was the slowest, longest, most painful bikini wax I’ve ever had. Not only did the technician put hot wax down on an area she had already waxed (a great way to burn and damage your skin) but she missed spots, waxed unevenly, and didn’t do the area on my legs or between them. If it wasn’t for the $ 11.25 price tag, I’d be a lot more upset. But that’s what you get when you go to a student instead of a professional.
They’re prices are super reasonable and if you want to try something once or don’t really care how it comes out, then I’d say go for it if only for the price.
