Abba Eye Care

Had a great experience here! Dr and staff was very friendly. Got a cute pair of glasses for a reasonable price and they came in in less time than estimated. I will continue to go to Abba with such awesome service.

I, initially, attempted to go to the Abba location on Lake Ave due to the larger selection of frames. There were so many patrons in the store that I was forgotten about and could not get any of the other employees to help.
On to the more northern location on Circle. This location is much smaller and consequently, has less selection. However, they are able to order in just about anything that they don’t have in the store. The store is located in a rundown shopping plaza which appears to have been constructed in the 1960’s.
I did not get an eye exam at Abba, only the lenses and frames. It feels like it takes me an excessively long time to select frames and I always feel bad for the person helping me. It took me two visits to decide which frames I wanted. I think, all said and done, it was a total of 3 hours of trying on and debating. I have a very narrow face and many frames look way too large on me. It’s a PITA (or maybe I’M a PITA). I’ve made a few bad decisions on frames in the past.. . which were expensive lessons which I don’t want to repeat.
Regardless, the lady helping me out was really patient and didn’t seem perturbed about my seemingly endless quest for the right frames. There were several options on the type of lens and the coatings. I was getting the pressure to choose the pricier options. I’m sure they are required to do that and she was nice about it all, it personally annoys me. Anyway, I did not choose all the pricy stuff and got what I wanted. The glasses were pretty expensive. However, I have pretty kick ass insurance so it was not too much out of pocket for me.

The staff were extemely friendly, and the doctor was both super pleasant and also really patient with my fear of the eye pressure test. The selection of glasses was nice, everything was clean and comfortable, only complaint was that I didn’t get seen until half an hour after my appointment time. But everyone was so friendly that if I didn’t have such a busy day today it would’ve totally made up for it.

I’ve used them for years and have been very satisfied. Dr. Plotkin was very thorough about listening to my condition and following up on possible related conditions. The opticians are friendly and helpful. The selection of frames is pretty good.

Beware. First of all Abba is very, very expensive ($ 600 for progressive lenses and frames, $ 100 for a five minute eye exam). And if the lenses they recommend don’t work for you (eye strain, headaches, vision swims with any minor side to side motion, non-​existent glare reduction, etc.), you are out of luck. No refunds, no remedy. You’ve just flushed a huge sum of money down the toilet. Not a chance I will ever darken the door of this place again.
