Okay, so the food isn’t actually anything to write home to mom about, but you don’t come here for the food. You come here for the desserts! An old school ice cream parlour has plenty of charm by itself and when it houses fond memories, it might make one apt to be generous with the stars. The best part of Swensen’s was ring dunking. For those of you unfamiliar with Aggie traditions, you’re supposed to dunk your Aggie ring a pitcher of beer and chug it down. At the time, I wasn’t a beer drinker(and my waistline showed it!) so the next option was to dunk it in a huge bowl of ice cream with your ring at the bottom. Most of the time, you’re expected to go bobbing for your ring, hands tied behind your back. Somehow I smooth talked my way into using a spoon. The end result: that much dairy is just not good for a person. You’ll end up with your head in a toilet just the same as you would if you went the beer route! Sure, the service is a bit slow, but it is one of those places where you come to spend a few hours, not to dine and dash. Plus, it is a great place to take the kiddos when you wanna fill them up with sugar!

If you like a combo consisting of a burger and an ice cream sundae for $ 5 this is the place for you. The sundae was great(it’s an ice cream parlor after all and really, how can you mess up a sundae?), but the burger was overcooked and was well done instead of the requested medium. Everything on the walls and table had that old, sun bleached look. This is yet another example of how cheap meals are in Texas. Everything is bigger… and cheaper… in Texas.
