When you get to Szechuan Bistro, you can tell what kind of eating experience you will have by the type of table you’re sitting at. Sit a square table, and it’s just like every other restaurant that you’ve eaten at: order your food, eat your food. If you sit at a large circular table(like I did) it’s not that simple. When I sat down at the table I ordered what sounded good off of the menu, but the server said something about sharing. Being the hungry man I am, I thought, «yeah, if I want to, I’ll share.» He then got all of the other orders for the rest of the table. Being as hungry as I was, I put the thought of sharing to the back of my mind to prepare myself for the greatness that was about to occur. Just as an aside: you know that period of time where you’re having a great discussion about new developments in the world of technology but then you see that the food you ordered is heading your way and you forget what it was that you were talking about in the first place? Where you don’t want to make it look like you’re completely checked out of the conversation now and just want to eat? There needs to be a word/phrase for that. If there isn’t, we should just call it Food Anxiety. Anyways, there I was with Food Anxiety setting in, ready to tear into the meal that I ordered. The server walked up and placed the food not in front of me, but on the lazy Susan in the center of the table. He then placed my brother’s meal right next to mine on the lazy Susan. My mind flashed back to when we ordered and all I could see was the server repeating the word«sharing» in slow-motion. After sitting in a stunned silence for about a minute, I came to an important realization; I’m an adult! You can’t force me to share! In all seriousness though, if you do have a problem with sharing, don’t sit at the round table. It’s a tad bit awkward when everyone else is spinning the lazy Susan around trying all of the different dishes while you say, «Nope. Not doing it.» The positive thing about the sharing table is that you get to try all of the random stuff that everyone else got. It’s great for taking notes on what and what not to get the next time you come in. As far as the food goes, everything that I’ve had is great! The three items that immediately come to mind are: C48: Boiled Sliced Fish in Hot & Spicy Sauce(Sounds weird, but oh man, it’s so good) C35. Jumbo Shrimp Sautéed with XO Sauce. C23. Beef on Sizzling Plate(Probably the safest choice of my recommendations) I don’t think you could go wrong with any of these dishes. Each of these are unique in the flavor that they bring and don’t get boring as you finish eating them. Serving size is decent enough to where you won’t feel like you wasted your money. Normally they have a complementary dessert at the end of the meal, but this last time they didn’t offer it. I was really looking forward to that orange slice… Overall, Szechuan Bistro is a fantastic restaurant. The forced sharing thing is something that you might need to prepare yourself for, but other than that, it’s best Chinese food I’ve had in Oklahoma City.

Can’t quite give it a 5 star yet, but it’s real close. but will for sure be going back! This was first time here and I ordered take out. I went out on a limb and ordered the whole Red Snapper in hot bean sauce with side of fried rice. A co-worker worker of mine had been talking this place up for awhile. The red snapper was market price(29.95), for the large one. The smaller one was 24.95. Since I got takeout, i knew I was in store for something good when they handed me a tin foil baking pan that was over a foot long. The fish was cooked really well, and prepared well too. It was easy to cut and pick the meat right off the bones, very flavorful and tender. What set everything off though was the hot bean sauce! Maybe some of the best sauce I’ve had a a Chinese restaurant. Had loads of seasonings in it. They gave me enough sauce in the pan to feed an army, though. The fried rice here is also better than your average place. Nice and moist. So… overall, I will be returning and would like to dine in to get the full experience. I would like to try other menu options, but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to order anything else besides the Snapper.

Had a couple chicken dishes the times I’ve gone in. They were both pretty average. Service was also average.

Gotta say, I’m quite liking having moved to this side of town. Szechuan is a good little place to go for sit-down Chinese food. The menu is pretty expansive with a mix of American-Chinese and more traditional dishes. The inside is spacious and calm feeling with the dimmed lighting. There’s a TV on one of the walls(I only remember the one), and luckily it wasn’t blaring but it did have some sports ball on if you happen to want to watch that as well as get down on some Chinese food. Upon Jeff M.‘s advice, the fella and I opted for the double cooked pork and the pork with bamboo shoots. Spring rolls(3⁄5): I felt neither here nor there on the spring rolls for the most part. They were good and crispy, but they’re not something I’d get every time. I’m sure the other appetizers are worth a try! Pork with bamboo shoots(4⁄5): I was genuinely surprised that the bamboo shoots were actually… bamboo shoots. Like a lot of folk, I’m used to those rectangle from a can bamboo shoots that comes in pretty much all fast-food Chinese. Now, I have no idea if these bamboos were fresh or what, but they were good stuff. The pork was tender and flavorful with the mildly spicy sauce that came on the dish. I think it’s listed as a spicy dish, but if you really like spice, I’d recommend asking them to kick it up a bit. If someone like me can enjoy it without sweating, it’s probably not too heated! Double cooked pork(4⁄5): Like bacon. Firm and succulent rather than crispy. All the vegetable fixins it came with were good stuff!

The hot salsa on the table is awesome! Very authentic(maybe?). The portions are big also. I got fried rice and the hot fish pot I think. It was enough to feed me 3 times and I’m not a small guy. I will go again. Service is also great.

Spicy fish in clay pot and it was awful ! Tasteless with chili and very oily ! Might look pretty good but looks definitely was deceiving ! The Singapore Mei fun was a total disaster. Noodles were hard and chewy and the curry flavor was fine but they added more spice which made it extremely spicy ! We also ordered shrimp lomein and the shrimps were tiny and poor quality. Very disappointed !

Holy authentic deliciousness! They have your typical American style Chinese, but they also have authentic family style dishes. Not to mention a liquor license ;) Love all of their soups and their steamer baskets!

Favorite Chinese restaurant in OKC. The Szechuan chicken is a safe go-to but ask for the Chinese menu because there are a few more tasty options on there as well(sizzling beef plate is awesome). About to move and going to miss this place a bunch!

I’ve been meaning to write this review for a couple years now. But… I didn’t feel like it, I guess? Not sure why, because I love Szechuan Bistro. To me, it’s the closest(possibly only) thing to Szechuan food that we have in town. I should verify with Jocelyn C. though… I’m just going to list a few menu items. You should then go try it out. Afterward, come back and tell me whether I led you astray or not, okay? Basically, skip to the back of the menu, and look at the last 2 – 3 pages where they list all of the more«Chinese» dishes. I’m pretty sure you won’t die if you order something other than the Sweet and Sour Chicken and some fried rice. [] Menu Items to Consider [] — Pork with Bamboo Shoots. You cannot go wrong. Or rather, I haven’t gone wrong yet when I’ve chosen this dish. — Double Cooked/Fried Pork. Oh Mylanta, I love this thing. It’s basically bacon. Which… probably explains why I love this thing… — Szechuan Style Chicken with Peppers is tasty, but they take the«peppers» part seriously. Maybe a little too seriously. I like the chicken a lot, but I don’t like that half the plate is dry peppers. Sure you can eat the peppers, but… I’d rather… Eat more chicken… — Spicy Fish. The full name for the dish is «Boiled Fish with Spicy Sauce» or something(C48) and it doesn’t sound appetizing, but it looks and tastes much better than it sounds. — The Clay Pots, Dan Dan Noodles, etc. are also delicious, but seem to be a bit of an acquired taste. I’m pretty sure it’s the use of peppercorn in the sauces, but the more you eat, the more you notice that your tongue is going numb. Apparently some people don’t like their tongues to go numb… [] Dessert [] Oh right, complimentary dessert at the end. They’ll ask if you want an orange slice, or a cookie. Get the orange slice, because(1) it cleanses your palate after the rich meal, and(2) the cookie isn’t all that good. Also,(3) there’s something special about the oranges at Szechuan Bistro… I don’t know where they buy their oranges, but they’re always really sweet and refreshing. [] Service [] It kind of sucks sometimes. That is unless you get a bespectacled, and friendly young lady named Coco. She’s basically the antithesis to the stereotypical server that I’ve come to expect at a restaurant like this. If you get her, be happy, because she can handle large crowds with few to no issues. [] Price [] Pretty much everything yummy is at least $ 12+. For two people, expect your meal to be in mid to high $ 30’s. However, it helps that the serving sizes are decent; you won’t walk away feeling gypped.

I’m not adventurous with most of the menu items but I have gotten the orange beef, sweet and sour chicken, sesame chicken, and general tsos chicken. All have been great. If you have a problem with your food they make it right and they’re run by nice people.

Expensive and not hygienic. They don’t know how to bread seafood. Their water has something in it. The second time i ordered water, it had something in it too. I am sorry but i think their family members left good reviews for this place. if you wanna waste your money, come here.

We had family dinner at Szechuan tonight and were not disappointed. We started the meal with seaweed salad and fried squid, followed by the sizzling beef plate and hot fish soup(C37). All of the food was well prepared and each provided multiple layers of flavor. While some family members felt the soup was a little spicy, I felt it was just right. On top of the great food, the service was excellent and our round table had a lazy Susan which allowed for easy sharing for all. Sometimes it is the little things that make you enjoy the experience and Szechuan definitely provided.

On the recommendation of a co-worker I went here for the first time on the 12th and 19th of Mar, it was that good! On the 12th the staff was very friendly and our water was great! We were seated as soon as we entered the door. I got the Egg Drop Soup, Crab Rangoon, and the whole Red Snapper in Bean Sauce! WOW… The Red Snapper was delicious, it was fried and then drenched in this spicy bean red sauce that was phenomenal, and I got the house fried rice which is great! Normally when you get other establishment fried rice that comes with the meal, it isn’t that good. This place is excellent! Everything came out fresh and hot! On 19th Mar, it seemed a little busier than the week prior, but we were seated as soon as we entered the door this time as well! This time I got the fried chicken wings(which weren’t good) I wouldn’t recommend getting those because they were not seasoned well, they just didn’t have any flavor! I got the Egg drop soup which came out fresh and hot like the previous week, and spring rolls. I had a «slight» issue with our waiter, because I don’t eat beef or pork, and my wife ordered spring rolls. So I asked the waiter if it had beef or pork in it, and she said, «I believe it doesn’t» So I asked her if she could go and find out? Which she did. I shouldn’t have to ask the waiter that, especially if she wasn’t sure what it had in it! This time for my main course I got the Clay Pot Trio, and the house fried rice which again was excellent! The Trio came with scallops, chicken, and 3HUGE Jumbo shrimp! Again everything came out hot and fresh. The sauce that the Trio was cooked in, tasted like a garlic type sauce which was good. I like a little spice to my food, so next time I will try something else with more spice and flavor. I will be back.

This is an update. I previously said that I would not return to this place, but this week my wife and daughter wanted to go so I gave in, and guess what, the food and service were great. However, if you have never had the wonton soup, well, I don’t consider it a soup, just a broth with about three or four small lumps of meat wrapped up resembling a noodle with a lump. And they charge $ 2.95 for a large one and $ 1.70 for the small one. But, the hot and sour soup is really good. I had no. 5, Chicken and String Bean. Yeah, no pleural, just Bean, but you actually get more than one bean. This is a clean, well lighted place and probably the best Chinese food in town. Therefore, I have upgraded my review. If you have given up on finding any good seafood in the metro, then I recommend trying one of Szechuan’s seafood items. I have several times and never been disappointed. And if you’ve never eaten seafood rice, try it. Time for another update. I said I like this place and still do. It was yesterday, Groundhog Day, and my wife were here for lunch, and I ordered a large bowl of seafood soup, which I’ve ordered several times, and it is a bit spicy, but I’ve always been able to handle it, until this time. Wow, it was hot as hell. I told our waiter I couldn’t eat this one. About ten minutes later, he arrived with a milder version. In addition, the cook himself, came to the table to tell me that if I don’t want it hot, then tell the waiter. Where is this guy coming form? I was thinking. «Do you realize, sir, this information is not on the menu?» I asked. He mumbled something and did an about face and left. Go figure!

Very authentic. Definitely order from the Chinese dishes towards the back of the menu, which comes out family style. Everything was excellent and was cooked very well. The wait staff was fine. Will definitely come back to eat here. Definitely one of the better places that I’ve eaten in OKC.

Two of us shared the Crab Rangoon, Vegetable Low Mein, Roasted Pork Fried Rice and Mango Chicken in Garlic Sauce. Probably some of the best Chinese food I have had in quite some time. Everything was served so hot and fresh. Wait staff extremely attentive and the establishment very clean. A large t.v. playing college football on a Saturday evening. Awesome! Highly recommend this place.

I have driven by many times before, but only recently have I become a fan. While it still feels a little less organized than I typically prefer, the food more than makes up for it. The most important thing is to go to the back of the menu. Don’t order sweet and sour chicken. Order an authentic Szechuan dish. The salt & pepper sliced fish is a new favorite. The minced pork and green beans are also great. Food is served family style and they’ll bring out steamed rice for the table. Don’t expect it to be the same as other Chinese food places as food is prepared a little differently in each region of China. They’ve even remodeled to accommodate for more patrons. Definitely worth trying!

Best chicken dumpling ha in the state. I have been ordering from here for some time now and everything I’ve tried is very good. First time I actually come to the restaurant and sit down. Service is good… But the quality of the food is the main highlight. If you see something in the menu that is supposed o be spicy they can tune it down for you(I am not into spicy anything). I just recently discovered that this is the favorite Chinese restaurant of my wife’s Chinese friend… She is very picky when it comes to food and she absolutely loves this place.
