Came Here on a late evening and there was a group of African American teens looking like they just came from prom. The security guards was so rude to them and all they asked for was a menu. After at least a half hour of no service the teen were getting ready to leave just as the security guard said a raciest remark. I couldn’t take it any more being an African American women so I left and vowed never to return. Worst experience ever. Raciest staff and security… Booo

Some of the best food in the West Loop. Great outdoor seating, outstanding service. Pretty much everything you’d ever look for in a local Diner. All that aside their burgers are probably the best I’ve ever tasted!

WARNING! MOLD — HEALTHRISK We came here excited to eat at a restaurant featured on Diner’s, Drive In’s & Dives. We were not able to order what Guy Fieri ate, so we ordered: Meat Lover’s Omelette w/Side of Toast Blue Plate Special«Steaker» The Steaker was basically a bacon cheeseburger with no bun, with steak meat(?). The sausage in the meat lover’s omelette was undercooked tasting At the end of our meal, we realized that the side of TOAST, GREEKTOAST, had MOLD on BOTHPIECES. I brought this to the manager. He took it back, and ASKEDIFWEWANTEDMORETOAST. NOAPOLOGY, NOATTEMPTTORECOVER. Thank god there was no bun on the Steaker Special. BEWARE. CHECKALLFOOD.

Sometimes an incredibly busy place with a long wait, and sometimes empty. Open 24 hours 7 days a week! Very wide variety of food with tons of options for sides, entrees and desserts. Some are better than others, so it’s really hit or miss. Staff is usually accommodating, but can be overwhelmed by the business.

Loved this little place! We always look for great little diners for breakfast and this certainly fit what we had in mind. Coffee refills every time it went below ¾ cup, great pancakes, eggs, sausage gravy and biscuits. The food was delicious and the service was spot on. We’ll be back!

White palace are so racist. We walked in this big guy of European descent asked us how many people are in your party. I told him 3 and we we were waiting on our third person from our to park the car so we said okay we will abide by their policy. After 3mins of waiting a women of European descent walks in says she has a party of 4 and their was 3 of them the same big guy sat them straight down. I told the big guy that it wasn’t right not to make a huge scene he said what you say. I said its not right and you are not right. Afterward We sat down and felt really uncomfortable so we all got up and left. To respond to your response below what you are saying is lies as far as the size of the party that was seated. The host claimed the woman’s husband was parking. The woman’s husband did not come the 5 mins we sat down before decided not to spend money in your establishment. As far as the staff being intimidated you must be talking about a different person because I only addressed this with your hostess. I told him calmly he was wrong when tried to explain I said sir you are wrong. Then we were seated and after talking with the members of my church we decided to leave. I’m a pastor and we did not cause a scene but we just walked out with no comment left the free water on the table. To lie to try and discredit what I have said is wrong and I hope you all change your heart and the way you treat people because it’s 2016 and no one deserves service the way you do business. As far as your staff being 70% African American. I don’t know if it’s true or not but on Sunday morning I only saw 3 African Americans out of a staff at least 15. I can’t say it’s false but I can say what I saw was not 70%.

I had the Chilaquiles and the taste was just good, they were serve with beans and avocado but I can tell they were from a can. My daughter had the 2×2×2×2 and she loved it. Maybe some music will help in quiet times.

A mid priced all night joint, what more can one ask for? I’ve only eaten breakfast here and it’s plentiful and good. The service is usually quick and the place is bright and clean.

This place gets a three stars just by being open all night. The food here is great if you are drink but it gets really noisy and shady at night. The service was a little bit underwhelming considering that my party was forced to pay up front and a mandatory gratuity. However, the overall feel is still welcoming. I want to just start this off with a summary but I can describe more of the food. The coffee is unlimited refills as expected but it was difficult to get a refill. I ordered a reuben sandwich that came with soup and fries. First, I love how they have crinkled fries, but the reuben was okay. Standard reuben. I had a clam chowder soup that had a fair amount of clams. Another plus for this place. Overall, it is still hard to beat a late night diner. Skillets and pancakes or chicken and waffles. I would recommend pregame before coming in at night; just to fit in with the environment. Really noisy at night, but will come again.

Husband wanted classic diner food for New Year’s Day breakfast. This wasn’t far from our hotel so I drove over. Had to wait but that was expected. Large menu, lots of choices. Husband loved his skirt steak and eggs but when did skirt steak go up to $ 16? Hashbrowns good, omelette typical, good Greek toast. Would go again for sure if in the neighborhood.

We tried this place for the first time yesterday. It has been here since the 1930’s so they must be doing something right. The décor is classic diner of days gone by. Really nice if you like that kind of thing. The service here was very good, polite and prompt. As for the food it was ok not great. My wife had the patty melt with fries and chicken noodle soup. She said it was very good but not great. i had the chicken and waffles which came with 2 eggs and hash browns. It was pretty good but the chicken was average. You get 3 strips which are just ok. I do not see what all the rave is about this place but I may try it again and this time something else as the chicken and waffles cannot be the best thing here.

This is simple as it gets, it’s a diner, it’s open 24 hours! The coffee is always fresh, hot and a good medium brew. It’s what coffee was in Chicago before all those dedicated coffee storefronts popped up on every corner. I’ve heard many good things about the fried chicken so I tried it once, imo it’s good but not worth the hype. I do like any of the breakfasts here, and yes places do manage to screw up breakfast, they make it to order and they make it right. My husband generally gets the catfish and has been happy with it. At times the place can get loud, remember it’s a 24hour joint, so all the sudden you may find them vacuuming around you. There used to be more of these places in the city, now they’re dying off, I hope this place stays around for a long, long time. Everyone needs a diner in their life.

Service was great, the diner looks like a blast form the past, classic 50’s diner which is cool, but the food was mediocre. If people come here its for the great service and vibe, not for the food.

This place used to be my favorite restaurant. Some chef they are so nice to let people split their bills even the menu said no split bills. Well… I accept it if the menu says it and we didn’t see, no split bill I get it. However the chef worked on 12/11/2015 Friday evening. I walked to the cashier asked him to check out for us, he point out no split bill which is fine, but he gave me the attitude and not glad to take my check at all and I wondered why? I don’t come here to see shitty faces to ruin my dining experience okay? Really don’t want to come here again.

This place won’t receive one star as they try I imagine and perhaps I came in when better chefs were on rotation. That being said I think Guy Fieri is full of shit when he came and ranked this place so highly. The burger I ordered was mediocre at best and a bit on the over done side; the veggies that came with were what you may have had in grammar school as a kid and obviously straight out of a can; they were soupy, tough and sad looking. The soup options were clam chowder and chicken noodle; I opted for the former and learned that there are tomato based clam chowders; the soup was average. The second dish I ordered was the Grecian Tilapia, and from the menu description lead me to believe it was expertly prepared and high on taste; I don’t know what the hell I was thinking as it was anything but. The saving grace to this entrée was the greek rice that made it passable. The fish was over cooked, burnt on one end and looked like the cap came undone on the seasoning bottle; something akin to a young girl discovering makeup for the first time, too much. The nail in the coffin was when I asked the manager if I could charge my phone as it was on 16% and I figured I would be here for at least an hour; he asked if I was a customer and I motioned to the table directly in front of him with my winter attire and open menu. He said no. I just stared at him and took my seat. This review was written on my dying phone after the meal had been finished. I could forgive shit service or bad food, but not both; the twenty minute wait time to be served would have been dissmissable had other things been different. I opt you check out laurence fishery for some decent seafood on canal and cermak as that was where I intended to go originally, but hunger won out for me. Stay curiously hungry and adventurously hungrier on the quest for good eats.

I have not been here since college! The food was okay. We came here at 3 am and it was packed, we actually had to wait to get a table. The service wasn’t horrible and it wasn’t even mediocre. The cashier was a jerk and our waitress looked like she was over worked. This was the only place open at that hour-so it was just ok.

I came here for dinner on a Friday evening with friends. Upon arrival, we were seated immediately. As others mentioned, it is just an average diner. However, I gotta give credit for all the food options they have here! wow! Food — reminds me of Denny’s, but with a lot more options! Grecian Chicken — Generous with food portions. The chicken tasted ok, nothing too amazing. Costs — around $ 10 for a meal with generous portions Customer Service — nice, seems like the folks that work here have been here for awhile and they just seem happy which is always a plus. Décor — I really liked the décor inside the restaurant, pretty neat! :) Parking — plenty of parking if you park near the whole foods and just walk down to the restaurant. I would come back here to check out the other food items on the menu since there’s just soo many!

They serve a nice hearty portion of food, I got the bacon egg and onion omelet that came with hash browns and toast. I don’t like the oil they use for their food, I’m not sure what it is but it leaves this gross taste in my mouth. Also I couldn’t finish it because there was a piece of hair in my food, I was grossed out ! I told the waitress and she looked at it against my hair ! I said I don’t have grey hair so no that’s not mine ! I get that things happen, I wasn’t expecting her to cut the bill or anything just letting her know but to then be treated poorly after was unbelievable.

I don’t know why this place has such low ratings! I found the food to be delicious, and I shared a skillet with my BFF& we were both full and satisfied! The place is pretty janky, but I like the diner atmosphere. There are some weird rules about pre-paying if you have a party of 5 or more and paying $ 3 per person if in a booth. No splitting the bill either, so it definitely has a lot of terms and conditions! The food, however, is very good for your buck! Paid $ 10 for a chicken fajita skillet and pancakes came with! Love how the place is open 24 hours a day! Will come again!

With all of the new construction around White Palace Grill, it looks even more divey than it actually is, and make no mistake my friends– this place is a dive. Don’t let that new construction fool you though– there’s good people and good breakfast. Our waitress was right out of the«stereotypical diner waitress» handbook– she looked like she had a little attitude, she playfully messed with the regulars at the counter and she definitely called me «hon» more times than my grandmother. But she was super nice and moved around the restaurant like she knows it blind and backwards. The walls are covered in faded news clippings and paintings that celebrate Chicago lore– everything between the Bulls, Harold Washington, Oprah and everything in between. Forget the Chicago History Museum– just get a booth at White Palace Grill to get your fill of Chicago’s history. My cousin and I had a pretty straightforward breakfast– pancakes, eggs, sausage and the like. We definitely got our food in less than fifteen minutes, even with a packed house and a line almost out the door. Everything tasted great and came at a reasonable price. What I was most impressed with was the speed and efficiency with which the staff took care of their customers, all while remaining warm and friendly. I’m not sure what breakfast restaurants are in the new mega malls surrounding White Palace Grill, but don’t count out the old guy on the block– not by a longshot.

We wanted to eat lunch somewhere after cheering all morning in the Blackhawks 2015 rally. Hubby remembered this place called White Palace Grill that was nearby and it was on diners drive-ins and dives and Chicago’s best tv shows. When we walked in, we were greeted right away and we were able to sit in a booth by the window so we can people watch. The place had a dinner feel with red/white/black colors of the interior. The place was pretty clean and neat, not bad for a restaurant that is open 24⁄7 for over 70 years, wow impressive. They must be doing something right! They make everything from scratch even their Italian bread crumbs! I believe it’s owned by a Greek family so you know your portions will be plentiful. Here is what we ordered for lunch: –Chicago Deluxe Burger-it was juicy on toasted brioche buns. Served with crinkle fries that were hot and crispy. It came with a soup which hubby chose creamy mushroom. His soup was thick a hearty with sliced of mushrooms. I tasted it and I would get it too lol. –Catfish Sandwich Deluxe-it was two large pieces of breaded catfish filet on toasted Italian bread with crispy fries and a soup. He would get this meal again. –I got the hot Meatloaf, it came with mashed potatoes made fresh topped with beef gravy and a cup of soup which I got the chicken noodle. My soup had plenty of noodles and it was also hearty and not salty, I would order this again. I LOVED this meatloaf dish, I got 4 pieces of moist meatloaf that had a crispy crust on the outside. The gravy was so good not salty at all, I even asked extra on the side for dipping. The meatloaf was flavorful with bits of carrots and celery in it. I wanted to save some to take home, but I liked it a lot that I ended up eating it all. If I say hmmm while eating without thinking, then I know it’s good haha! Good comfort food. Even our server was really nice and polite. She was very attentive when we asked for more mayo, we got more, I asked for more gravy, I got it. Our drinks were filled without us asking, nice. Overall, I like this place and it’s 24⁄7 all year round. I’ll be coming back as I want to try other things on the menu as seen on TV lol!

Seems really overhyped. Perhaps I just didn’t pick a winner. Everyone knows what constitutes a typical DDD place. I’ve been to a few and always had some great tasting food, whether it was a dive or a nicer-looking joint. I ordered the fish/grits/eggs(perch) for about $ 9. Also came with toast. This is a ton of food for the price, no complaint there! The grits were flavorless and disappointing and the eggs had an odd texture. Can’t mess up toast, nor fried fish. All in all it was very disjointed — I felt like it was eggs, grits and toast with a side of fried perch. Maybe that’s how it was supposed to be and maybe I’m an idiot. All in all, I feel about WPG how I feel about Navy Pier — I’d bring a friend here if they wanted but I don’t think I’ll be back.

Had breakfast here on a Saturday and the place was absolutely packed. Typical diner atmosphere with big greasy portions of food. I got 2 eggs sunny side up which were slightly undercooked, bacon which was a little chewy, and hashbrowns that were barely browned. It came with a choice of toast or English muffin, I chose the English muffin and it was charred on one side. The pancakes were fantastic though, very fluffy and plenty of syrup and butter. Service was quick but not the best. My favorite part if this place was the place itself. Amazing murals, art on the ceiling, old newspaper clipping and art on the walls with a typical retro diner feel. Open 24⁄7 with breakfast served all day.

On the outside, it looks exactly like what a diner is supposed to. It has a very old-fashion style. The food is good. I haven’t gotten any breakfast food there yet. I have gotten their quesadilla and I thought it tasted great. What makes the place great is the people, though; they deserve a lot of the credit. They are always happy no matter what day or time you go there.

Have you ever hung out with some friends and they were so intoxicated that you knew you couldn’t put them in a cab alone, but didn’t want them to come by your place because you don’t like cleaning up after drunk people? Well, you take them to White Palace Grill! You order extra water light ice so they can chug it down and hit the bathrooms a few extra times to sober up. Meanwhile you look at your watch order an omelet and enjoy some hot coffee while they make several trips back and forth to the bathroom doing God knows what. You see other patrons doing the same thing. You nod at the sober ones as you sip your hot coffee and they drink their orange juice while watching their friends race yours to the bathroom. You smile to yourselves, because hey it’s not your bathroom! White Palace is okay it’s not great, but it’s open all day.

My mother used to read me a picture book called«The Little House» when I was a tot. It’s about a house in the country that, over time, gets surrounded by a city. But when it was built, the owner declared that it could never be sold, even for gold.(You can hear someone else’s mom read it here: .) This is my impression of White Palace. It’s been there forever, and whoever owns it gets a big tip of my sombrero for not selling out. Moxie is worth an extra star. It’s one of the few independent businesses in the area, after being surrounded by every chain store that you ever find in the suburbs(can you say Marshall’s, DSW, Michael’s, Best Buy, Home Depot, Bed Bath Beyond, Staples, Nordstrom Rack, whew, I’ve gotta stop… Though I’m giving you a pass, you over-priced gem of a goody-two-shoes health nerd, Whole Foods!). And it’s a classic diner with consistently tasty, value-priced large portions, especially good for breakfast.(And the perfect antidote to a trip to Whole Foods, I might offer.) I’ve been coming here since I moved into the neighborhood more than ten years ago. In fact, I used to phone ahead for comfort food takeout on the way from a god-awful job in the north suburbs. I NEEDED that open-faced roast beef sandwich on white bread with mashed potatoes and a lot of gravy as a mommy replacement to soothe my nerves. In fact, one night the counter guy had accidentally made a strawberry milkshake. Did I want it? Hell yeah! And that’s exactly how it tasted. Hell yeah! On a Saturday afternoon at around 2 or 3, I sat at the counter and the waitress offered me the Sun Times, the perfect read for the occasion. I had the skillet with corned beef – long, sandwich-style strips of corned beef, rather than the little cubes of beef and potatoes, which I also appreciate, but this had those crispy hash browns that I can’t get enough of. Yum. A good afternoon was had by all. I only hope that this place doesn’t end up like The Little House in the picture book, whose owner’s granddaughter finds it in disrepair in the middle of the city and moves it out to the country. I love this place, but not enough to move out of the city to partake in its haute cuisine.

My husband & I came here because my husband said it was on Diner, Drive ins & Dives and apparently we drive past it when we go to Chinatown. So we decided to stop here for breakfast. We sat at the counter and it was a few minutes before anyone greeted us to take our order. It seemed like there was a lag time between greeting us, giving us water, etc but they were busy so I guess I will give them a pass. I got the Ultimate Meat Skillet — holy cow there was a lot of food! It came with a choice of toast or pancakes and I picked pancakes… bad choice for me because my eyes are bigger than my stomach. There was probably enough food to feed at least 2 people. My husband got biscuit & gravy and he said that he got more biscuits than he expected — he scarfed them down like there was no tomorrow. I would go back again… for sure!
