Super delicious, hole-in-the-wall place for Belizean food! I get the cup of chicken with beans and rice every time and it does not get old. 4 stars, not 5, because my plantains were a little burnt last time. Service is nice but you may have to wave them down since it is a small staff. Get the hot slaw sauce; it’s really good. Very affordable prices, too.

Very good and authentic Belizean food! I love their chicken dinners and potato salad the most. They also have rice/chicken bowls that are pretty good and cheap. Be sure to try their special hot pepper sauce if you prefer/enjoy spicy.

I’ve been very happy with the food I’ve had in Redz. I’ve tried the oxtail and the chicken dinner and both were great. The oxtail was tender and the chicken was very flavorful. The dinners come with rice and stewed beans and rice tastes amazing. This is just plain white rice but somehow it tastes much better than the white rice I make at home! I also had the pork tamale and it actually has a large chunk of pork inside! For drinks, the place makes its own eggnog! It tasted creamy and delicious.

Red, u need to read these reviews bcuz ur snotty ass daughter is gonna kill ur business. And u all need to expand ur kitchen or get some more cooks back there bcuz u all are RIDICULOUSLYSLOW. 10MINSFORFRYJACK! THEYSUCKATTAKINGYOURORDERS. You shouldn’t have to stand there almost 10 minutes before someone decides to come from the back and take your damn order! Unacceptable. And then when they write down the Orders somehow they still manage to get the damn order wrong! How the hell does that happen with something you wrote down verbatim coming from the customer! They then fill up your entire meal with rice and beans give you one measly damn plantain and short change you with the damn oxtails. We are aware of how expensive oxtails can be but come on if you have customers coming there in time for that shit then you give them what they pay for. I liked the chicken dinner and loved the fry jack but will forego it b4 dealing with their snotty asses. Red is too busy talking w everyone that comes in instead of running his restaurant properly. Won’t waste my gas going there anytime soon, u shouldn’t either

This restaurant has the WORSE customer I have ever experienced in my life!!! I have visited Belize several times, it is a beautiful place to visit. I had a taste of Belizean food, so I googled Unilocal for help, and found Redz Belizean Restaurant. The restaurant had mixed reviews on Unilocal. Me and a friend went to this restaurant Friday(10÷16÷15 about 2:00pm) when we walked in two people were waiting to order however, no one had taken their order, the two customers left because they mentioned no one approached them to take their order. I should have left too. Finally, a man took our order, HORRIBLE, AWFUL customer service!!! We were«welcomed» to the restaurant with«yah, what?» I was shocked, my friend responded, «hi, how are you, we would like to order food to go» We ordered food to go. We ordered a chicken dinner, beef dinner, two chicken tamales, and one meat pie. We were charged $ 42.08. As we walked out of the restaurant, and drove away, I asked my friend how much was the order, they did NOT give us a receipt. I looked at the menu and discovered they overcharged us. I drove back and explained the situation to the man that took our order, he just said, «oh yah, we owe you money» They food should have been $ 28NOT $ 42.08. They gave us the difference $ 14.08. A woman was standing at the counter and gave us the money. No apology, the man that waited on us, and the woman at the counter were so rude and mean. I could NOT believe the disrespectful, rude, ignorant, ghetto, customer service we received!!! The food was O.K. NOTHING special, the chicken was over-cooked, the beef was under cooked!!! WEWILLNEVERGOBACKTOTHISRESTAURANT due to rude, ignorant, ghetto, unprofessional, disrespectful customer service!!!

This place has the worst customer service ever! Never will go here again and spreading the word about how I was treated here. This is the 3rd. time Ive been here. I went in and placed an order to go. My order: 1 small chicken dinner, 2 beef patties, small side of rice and beans, and 2 dukuno. Order came to 19 and some change took the order and left. Got on the train went home and got the food out to eat it. They gave me the wrong order of 1 small dinner. Instead of chicken it was Oxtail. So I tryed to call Redz 5 times with no anwser. It was the middle of the day and they were not busy. So I decided since they wouldnt anwser their phone Im taking it back and getting what I ordered. The manager was walking out the door when we walked up. I explained to him that he gave us the wrong order… This was his response… Im sorry but you can just keep it. this was at the door. didnt even let us come in first… So again I explained how I want my order corrected and he said no Im not doing that. I said fine then since you dont know how to treat a paying customer I want my money back. Again he said no! So I said… You will give me my money back. You messed up the order. You need to fix this now. So instead of putting my money back to the card we used he opened the register and threw 10.00 at me and said take it. I put the food on the counter and left. Now to the crazy who doesnt know how to treat customers you got a pissed off client, lost money, a bad Unilocal review, and a client who also has a blog and is posting this experince their. I would highly recommend u rethink how you treat people. If you want to stay in bussiness!

Great neighborhood spot! The staff was friendly and the food came out REALLY fast. We went with a large group from class, our teacher recommended it. The food was very tasty! Loved the chicken and rice.

My husband and I were in the northern end of Chicago during a weekday evening. We were starving but it was 4 in the afternoon, so our choices were limited. I found Redz Belizean on Unilocal, read through a few of the reviews, decided that it sounded good, and we walked the few blocks over from our B&B. Our arrival into the restaurant was a little chaotic. There were quite a few people milling around the front counter. We stood around a bit until a man(a waiter, I suppose) leaning against the counter came over, asked if we wanted a table, moved some things off the closest table, wiped it down, and motioned for us to take a seat. Just as we sat down, a woman who had been sitting on a stool at the front counter rushed over and told us that we were sitting in her seat. The waiter had disappeared at this point, so we had to get up and wait for somebody else to leave(there are only 4 booths) so we could sit down. The ordering experience was a little chaotic too. We wanted to try the conch fritter, but were told that they were out. We ended up ordering the panades appetizer, the small oxtail dinner, and the small chicken dinner, which came with rice and beans, potato salad, and fried plantains. The waiter brought out this incredible onion-y, garlic-y sauce for the panades. The oxtail and chicken dinners were perfectly sized, and the gravy over the rice and beans was delicious. The plantains were the absolute best part, though. Fried and caramelized and kind of gooey in the perfect way. I would recommend: streamlining the ordering process at Redz, adding additional seating, and improving customer services. The food was great, though. If I’m ever back in the area, I’ll probably get take-out over dine-in, for sure.

The food here is perfect. Their oxtail is the best I’ve had in the city, and their sweet plantains are almost always perfectly ripe. I’m so sad I moved away! Gave it 4 out of 5 only because the service is pretty darn bad.

The food is very good here. Just the service is not as great. You should treat your people better and with thanks. No matter what color we are. I’m sure if the customer service was better, your business would strive. Smile more too. The energy in here feels very negative.

Redz was recommended by staff at Howard Area Community Center, and I’m glad I followed their advice. Great food, great staff, and all at an unbeatable price(as others have mentioned, it DOES get busy!) Eating here makes me want to visit Belize!

This is good food on the cheap. I’m pretty sure they got a few abuelas in the back slinging this stuff.

I love this place. Food is always fantastic. I made the 1 hr commute when it was Tickie’s and I still make it for Redz. My favorite dish is the Tilapia stewed in coconut milk, but it takes 30 min so I usually call it in ahead. My only complaint is the service. Don’t ever go during a typical rush hour for dining or carry out because the staff of easily overwhelmed. You might have to remind them to bring out your order/drink/or even silverware. Many a time I had to take it upon myself to grab my own drink or walk in the back for some silverware. I actually got a job near by and was excited to be able to pick up carry out for lunch. I called in my order 1 hr ahead and told them I would be on lunch break so it was important to be ready on time. When I showed up there was a line to the door &they hadn’t even begun preparing my food. I had to wait 45 min and was late returning back to work. I should’ve just left but they kept saying almost ready. Learned my lesson &only go now when I’m not crunched for time. I keep coming back because I love the food & its a great price. I would love to see them move to a bigger location & hire more staff. I would love to host a party there. I bring any friends who have never tried it before but with the limited seating it makes it difficult. Great place but try to go at an odd time to have a better chance at good service.

I can’t rave enough about this place. It’s a very short walk from the El, the food is DELICIOUS, staff are friendly, they serve generous portions, and it’s very reasonably priced($ 7 – 8 for the«small» plates, which are quite large). Seating is limited, so maybe don’t expect to eat in. My big bro and I got the small oxtail and chicken dinners, $ 8 and $ 7.25 respectively. Along with the tender meat comes a big serving of beans and rice(other options available), a scoop of AMAZING potato salad(I got a large container for $ 3.25 to go, though you can get small $ 1 containers as well), and a fried plantain. It was out of this world. Next time I go back, I want to try their tamales. We went around dinner time, and there were a ton of people coming through picking up orders. It’s got to be a popular place, and it’s no surprise why! FRIGGINDELISH!

You MUST come here, if you live within a 50-mile radius. If you love Central American flavors… plantains, stewed oxtail, seasoned rice & beans this place will knock your socks off. Or for those who’ve never tried Belizean food before, brace yourselves because you might fall in love. I just did. Came here for lunch, and I ordered the Oxtail dinner(that’s right, haha) which comes with a generous helping of stewed oxtail, rice and beans, potato salad and a fried plantain($ 8.00). The meat was tender and melted right off the bone, the sauce was amazing like it has been stewing for days… All the flavors were a punch and a kick. If I were any closer, I’d order carry out more often. It’s a very small establishment, tucked behind the Howard station on Paulina, between an empty storefront and… I think a beauty supply store. I would have missed this place completely, if the staff at the Howard Area Community Center(across the street) didn’t recommend it. I don’t frequent this area often but now I would come back for another round.(And I’d also try to find that woman who walks around and sells home-made tamales!) Redz has chicken/fish dishes and breakfast plates(the breakfast plate came with some sliced avocado) and the food here is FAB. I don’t know how people can make oxtail so good. There is seating(a bunch of booths on both sides of the restaurant) and it’s a pretty small/simple dining area. After I finished eating, my plate was scraped clean: yum. Overall, it’s a hole-in-the-wall place with unique, crave-inducing and cooked-with-a-lotta-love Belizean food.

We’ve been meaning to check out Belizean food here for a long time, especially since we live in the area and when we finally got a chance, it turned out that the place changed owners and was remodeled. Overall the experience was not bad, but I hope the new owner continues to make improvements. The good part: — The food itself is really great. Very authentic Caribbean cuisine, as good as anything we’ve tried in Jamaica. Plantain, rice with beans, ox tail, all very good. The portions are generous for the price. Lots of good different sides to add at cheap prices(corn bread was excellent) — Caribbean/Reggae music playing in the background. A nice touch, nothing better on a chilly rainy/snowy Chicago February night. — People that work here are friendly. The less good part: — They must be on Island Time. Or short-staffed. It took a long time for someone to appear at the register and take our order. It also took a long time for the food to come. — It was not really clean. The place is very small and there was not a clean spot for us. The owner came out and was nice enough to wipe down a booth for us(without us complaining, so he understands, which is great), but we still needed to kind of wipe our table. The neighborhood is a bit rough here, so partially I understand, and maybe it’s just better to get take-out from here, but still… The food is really good and hopefully we’ll be back to try other menu items.
