Came here strictly for the tourist experience of trying a real«Chicago hot dog». Wasn’t disappointed. Messy, juicy, mmmm.

Can’t say enough good things about Murphy’s. Great food(burgers are very very good too — not just the dogs), and the people are super friendly. Very family friendly place as well. Worth the drive no doubt. Easy to park too.

Awesome hot dogs and fries! Buns are so soft on red hot, and no ketchup needed for sure There was no line when we went, service was great and friendly too. I’ll definitely visit here again!

Awesome dogs and burgers at a great price! Fries are hand cut and perfection. Small interior, but super friendly staff. Orders don’t take long, either!

This is some good food. The redhots and the burger were delicious. Fries were tasty also, not the most healthy food in the world but you only live once and sometimes it just calls for a Chicago dog.

Great hotdog place. Don’t order ketchup… make a big thing of that but take it as it comes and you won’t need it… tastes great… love the hot pepper. Friendly place.

Murphy’s Red Hots may not be the most attractive place on Belmont, but they do have Chicago dogs that resemble«super models,» in the edible-dog world. Therefore, if you’re looking for large doggie individuals, I will have to direct you elsewhere. Murphy’s is a tiny place. Honestly, the indoor ventilation was kinda poor. Thankfully the cool and cozy mini patio was open. Due to their prime location in Lakeview/Roscoe Village(a close proximity to the Cubs Stadium), be aware of the lunch crowd because hungry people come fast and furious. Daddy J. and I went with the signature Red Hot, one steamed while the other one char-boiled. If you haven’t had a taste of Chicago dog, ask for EVERYTHING, including hot peppers, a large pickle, a round slice of cucumber, tomatoes, green relish, celery salt, and mustard. My dear friends: let me remind you that ketchup is a freakin’ no-no on our proudly-served Chi-town dog. Their dog is on the smaller side. Like I mentioned in the first paragraph, it was literally the«couture-model» size. My recommendation would be to add a side of hand-cut fries. With two(2) Red Hot dogs and one(1) serving of side fries, the total came to $ 11 and some change. Hence, like other restaurants in the neighborhood, they are economical but wouldn’t be categorized as «cheap» in my opinion. For being close enough to my frequently-visited salon in Boystown, I know I will be back without a doubt. If you like to utilIze public transportation, it’s a ten(10) walk west-bound from the CTA Brown/Red/Purple Line station. Otherwise, #77(Belmont) bus is readily accessible. Bring some cash with you, because there will be a $ 0.50 surcharge with every transaction when paying with a debit/credit card.

My wife and I were craving hotdogs today and drive past this place at least twice a day. Before I go any further with this review, I will let you know that I am reviewing and rating purely on food quality. Now that is the deal breaker on whether or not I’d return. Staff is friendly. They took my order and got it to me quickly. Thanks guys! But any who, I ordered a regular hotdog and a char-grilled hotdog. Both were ordered with everything on it. I also ordered cheese fries and onion rings. The onion rings were great and reminded me of the ones they have at Culver’s. The fries were crispy and lacking salt. Lucky for the cheese sauce. Everything is better with cheese sauce. So far, service is good, and the sides are good, but what went wrong? The hot dog was small on the bun and well, it just tasted ok. By that, I couldn’t determine if if was an all beef hot dog or not, based on taste. It was not memorable for me to want to come back and have another. Superdawg, Gene n Jude’s has a great dog and IKEA has a decent hot dog, heck even certain Home Depot’s. But yeah, it was certainly the little engine that couldn’t. It was served Chicago style, but it just was not good to warrant me to return.

The freshest hot dogs and hamburgers EVER! Great customer service: D This is my new lunch spot(lunch at 5pm usually). I always have a craving for this place for some reason. The ingredients are so fresh. I sooo LOVE a good olé hot dog/burger joint. Where can you get a nice juicy burger with all FRESH crunchy ingredients? THISPLACEOFCOURSE! Fresh veggies always get me. First time I had a cucumber on my burger and I loved it(and you don’t have to have a cucumber on it so don’t worry). The fries are tasty too. I’ll take a pic next time for you all! Cool little spot with a tasty menu: D

One of the best little places in Chicago. Go for a hot dog with everything and fries or don’t go. It’s what they do and they do it great. I went just before closing and they made it to order. Had to wait a few extra minutes but I didn’t mind at all. The foot long is huge. More toppings than you know what to do with but it all works together perfectly. There’s also outdoor seating and free parking lot. I rode my bike and there’s a place to lock it right outside. The workers were very friendly.

Visiting Chicago from DC… this place is a great little spot for a classic. Guys and dogs behind the counter are the real deal, as are all the news articles written about them! Charred Dog with the works with a basket of fries… mmmmm

It’s really hard to beat a place where they serve brilliant food every time and you’re served by the owner himself. It was my first time in the city, but Murphy and the crew made me feel right at home inside the shop. I got two charred dogs with everything on it but onions and had to go back for a third immediately. It’s located just off the red line so it’s convenient to get to and the neighborhood wasn’t bad. If you’re in the city and you want a hot dog, find Murphy’s.

Murphy’s is a guilty pleasure of mine. I come every so often for a red hot or a veggie burger. Their hand cut fries are a special treat. The staff is friendly and store is clean. Cash is preferred, but credit cards can be used for a $ 0.50 surcharge. They have a few parking spots in the lot next door as well.

I am officially a new fan! The hot dog and fries were pretty darn good. Ever since my dear hot dog joint Muskies closed, I had no where to get a decent dog for my lunch break. The hot dog was pretty crisp as you cannot go wrong with the Vienna hot dog. The restaurant itself is pretty tiny but suitable for a quick lunch. The staff was pretty attentive and really nice. There was a customer that was loudly sharing information about the restaurant and how there are locations in Hiroshima and somewhere else that I cannot remember. Interesting to know. Anyway, check out this awesome find, plus they have a nice patio for the spring/summer/fall.

Went here as part of the beau’s Summer of Hot Dogs excursion. Great service and atmosphere. The bf got a foot long char cheddar dog, which was butterflied, perfectly charred and delicious. However, he did wish that there was a poppyseed bun available for a hot dog of its stature. I got the brat with the grilled onions and horseradish mustard. It was good, but not great. The horseradish mustard definitely leaned more to the mustard side. However, the fries were easily the highlight of the meal– the perfect combination of crispy potato-ey goodness and salt. Not a huge fan of the cheddar spread as a dip. Much too greasy.

We visited this place during our bike tour. To be honest, I actually liked it better than the NY style hotdog. I had it with«Everything On It». The fun fact at this place was that if you ordered the hotdog with ketchup, you might be kicked out unless you were a kid or a pregnant woman. This place was very tiny but they did have some outdoor seatings.

First found this place 4 – 5 years ago, and let’s just say I have NEVER had to wait in line for an hour or more to get the PERFECT Chicago Dog here. Sometimes I like them steamed, usually I get them charred. Always with everything except the T, but add the sport peppers and don’t you dare forget the celery salt. NOCATCHUPEVER. There is NOT a better Chicago dog in Chicago. And if you can’t find a better one here in the city limits, you AIN’T gonna find a better one outside the city limits. These are the dictionary definition of Chicago Dog. Fries are to die for. Fresh cut, always hot, salted exactly right, never soggy. Don’t forget the cheese on the side. Love the guy behind the counter when I go during the day, always a grumpy smile, teases the kids about not dragging their dogs through the garden, but has a popsicle for them after lunch every time when we go in the summer. Hear the Beef and Polish are great too, but I can never get past the dogs. Friends in from out of town want to really know a Chicago dog? This is THEONLYPLACE you need to take them. They will want to come back to town again just to visit here. PERFECTION is achieved with encased meats here.

True Chicago dog experience. I had the char dog with everything and my 5 year old opted for the corn dog :). A side of skin on fries to boot. The atmosphere was local and bright. The owner was very friendly and mid western welcoming. Quick counter service and we had our seat at the bistro style table with red seated barstools(spinny seats) and red table covers. Very cute and had good energy… it was a little warm when we got there as there was no A/C, but the breeze blew in and kept it comfortable. Char dog was replete with pickle, peppers, relish, onion, mustard, tomato and celery salt(I think I got it right, I just said one char dog with everything!). Corn dog looked good too, the Vienna brand is a good dog. Fries looked hand cut and generous in the basket order… there were three empty baskets as we headed out. But before we left, the owner, who earlier said to me if my daughter finishes there is a t-r-e-a-t for her, lived up to his promise. He whispered to me that it was a Popsicle and I gave the green light. Very fun and nice touch.
