MCM Pub is a pretty cool place. A liquor store, bar and a restaurant. My first visit here included a friendly greeting from the cashier and a comment on how he’s never met someone with my name. Let the friendship begin. We came back on a Friday night and he immediately remembered us. This place was really busy. Located right off of six corners MCM brings in all of the locals. MCM has all kinds of people of many different backgrounds. It is really a great place. The night we came they were doing karaōke. The liquor store is located in the front where you walk in. If you continue to walk through to the back you find yourself in the bar/restaurant area. The tables and chairs were set up to invite you in and focus towards the back area where the karaōke was taking place. The bar is on your left and tall boys with chairs on the right. There are several books for you to pick your song from. They have a good amount of newer top 100 music but they also offer a lot of latino hits. This was the biggest draw for the crowd and many of the patrons knew these songs. Spanish not being my first language I decided to do an Chris Brown song. I had fun with it and everyone watching/listening did as well. It was my first time doing karaōke like this and I would do it again. They didn’t have any drink specials but they did have fireball. That is all you need. Everyone here was nice and I look forward to coming back here.

This unassuming spot was so much fun! A true hidden gem in Portage Park. The bartenders were very polite and attentive. On Fridays and Saturdays they have Karaōke and I was truly amazed by the talent! I will definitely be back!

I used to work here for about 9 months when it reopened. The crowd is ok, your average neighborhood drunks. Lots of union guys, mostly friendly, a couple mean assholes though. This one guy(Buddy, I think) is a complete dick. Always angry, calls female servers cunts, starts fights with customers. Makes life miserable. For a bar, the food isn’t bad. Pretty decent actually. They had french onion soup when I was working there, rare for a neighborhood dive. Decent eats. The guy who runs the front register, an old dude, is pretty nice and soft spoken. Liquor prices up front are decent. If you’re wondering how they have a permit for the bar and liquor store together, it’s because the owner bribed one of the local politicians(who would come in and drink free Beck’s all night long.) On to the owner. What a piece of shit this guy is. His name is Tommy, and he couldn’t be a worse boss if he tried. He’ll treat you ok if you’re a customer, but you should know going in that he’s a crooked motherfucker. During the 2006 Bears super bowl, he ran a square pool at $ 50 a square. That comes out to $ 5000 in payouts. Rather than pay it all out, like you’re SUPPOSED to, he kept a grand for expenses, without ever telling anybody who chipped in. Needless to say, he lost a ton of customers that night. Soon after I quit. There are much, much better bars in the area. This place attracts a lot of lunatics with the liquor store up front. Shady characters. If you don’t mind going up the road a mile, The Ham Tree Inn on milwaukee is one of the best neighborhood joints around.

The food here at this place was pretty good. The people drinking in the bar were polite, and friendly. Kind of crazy going through a store to get to the bar but whatever, a little different. The 3 bartenders there on a Saturday night where RUDE! I stood there for 10 minutes INFRONTOFONEOFTHEBARTENDERSWASHINGDISHES, and he NEVERLOOKEDUP! Never asked me «Can I help you» NOTHING! Not even the other two said anything. The service for the bartenders was disappointing. The prices for the drinks are HIGH. So be prepared to bring lots of cash! But you might save a few bucks because you don’t have to tip the rude bartenders! :-)

I went just this last Saturday evening for a birthday party. I thought it was a bit strange as far as the bar being behind the liquor store. Once back there, it looks quite nice and i was pleasantly surprised. It was overly crowded because there were 3 birthdays going on and Karaōke. They should expand the bar area and make the liquor store area(which is big and empty) smaller. It was my first time there, so i don’t know how it normally is, but i hear its usually crowded on Friday’s. I do NOT recommend ordering anything but beer, because the mixed drinks i ordered were almost always wrong. Smirnoff, 7 and a splash of cranberry should not be so difficult to get right. Got Red bull once and no cranberry most of the other times. Ordered Lemondrop shots and they were served with well vodka and i was charged the same for well shots as for my Smirnoff and Bacardi Limon’ call drinks which were $ 5. They had NO clue how to make one and never got my lemons(that’s the point of a lemon drop) He actually tried to make a Kamikaze, which after tasting the Lemon Drop, probably would have been much better. I’m not sure if this is typical of this place or not, but like i said, it was max cap. and with only 2 bartenders, i could understand why they would get confused so i am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on this. All in all, the atmosphere was fun and comfortable and although i did not try any of the food since i ate before i went there, it did look very good. Need more than one washroom for the girlie’s as there was always a long line. Would be willing to go back on a slower paced evening to try the food and see if they could get the mixed drink right and be consistent on the pricing and not charge the same for well as call. The mixed drinks(for the same 2 drinks) kept ranging in price from $ 5 to $ 5.50 to $ 6.00. Not cool. I bar tended for several yrs and this is a big no-no…Oh, am a huge Cubs fan, so i really liked the décor! Willing to give it one more try… oh and there were no peanuts anywhere as i seen in another review…

Nice quiet place to have few drinks. They serve food which is always a plus and they have specials on drinks and food everyday. I have never went to this place during night time so i can’t tell youhow pack this place gets. but nice place to wind down after long day at work. And you have to walkthrough a liquor store to get to the bar. I love it because i can grab me a case on the way out!!!

Funny that the other Unilocalers thought the set-up is odd. Y’all need to get out more. There is some awesome bar-life south of Roosevelt Road. This place is cool — weekends they serve the big(20 oz?) Fat Tires for $ 4.00. They do Old Style in a Pschoor glass for like $ 3.25. The karaōke is split with dance music — electric slide still feels good after all these years. Mostly good singers — not to many caterwaulers. Good friendly service. Get in there…

I love this place especially being so close to home the bartenders are really friendly and the owner is not the typical«big headed look at me I own a bar» type. Fridays is Karaōke its just an all around fun place!!! And they always have peanuts around in case u get the munchies!!!

It is a little bit of an odd setup, since you have to walk through the liquor store to get to the pub. But it is a very nice pub, good prices and the food is good. I think they have karaōke on Friday nights, which was surprisingly fun.

very very interesting place. so, it’s behind a liquor store… behind as in you walk through the liquor store to get to the bar… and it’s a really nice bar! not the typical tap room… if you know what i mean… and you should… if you don’t know what a tap room is, then go out, find one now, then continue reading my review… ANDWEAREBACK! hope you enjoyed a tap room. REALLY good prices, friendly staff and good food. freddy was the NICEST bar tender in the universe! it’s easy to get to and not crowded! check it out if you are in the area!
