Wer italienische Pizza liebt, sollte hier vorbeischauen!

Unilocal… you have failed me. Miserably. Living in Old Town I was on a mission to find some delicious wood oven pizza around my hood. I’ve always been loyal to Coalfire in West Town but on this Friday evening I decided to venture somewhere a little closer to my hood. Enter La Crosta. 5 star place on Unilocal and the pictures looked great. We walked in at about 6:15 on a Friday night and 2 tables were occupied. After being seated something just was off about this place. I’m not sure if it was the emptiness of the restaurant, the quick/semi-awkward service or the incubus playing on the radio through the speakers which didn’t fit the vibe. Seriously, who plays the radio at a sit down restaurant? Now to the food, we got the bruschetta and one of their pizzas. The bruschetta lacked the freshness that just about all bruschetta I’ve had have. By this point I knew this trip to the restaurant was going to be a epic fail. We ate half of it and stopped to wait for the pizza. When the pizza came, the first thing I noticed was the pool of olive oil forming all over the top of the pizza. When I picked up my first slice of pie, about half the ingredients slid off back onto the pizza tray. I then, very frustrated at this point, took my first bite into this soggy mess. This consistency of the crust literally tastes liked it had been soaking in water. How is this considered wood oven fired pizza? What I can’t understand more than this is how is this a 5 star place on Unilocal? It’s obvious reading through the reviews after dining there that the restaurant puts in phony reviews as there are a ton of newer people to Unilocal with only one or two reviews making reviews. Coalfire…I will never cheat on you again.

This place replaced Elio’s in the same location. The crust is maybe a bit soggy at the bottom. At that level of thinness, a bit more attention to this is needed. Our sauce was also extremely salty, our bad for not telling the owner in advance. We told him afterwards and he said he would dilute it with more tomato. He did offer to make us a new pizza but we had to go. Overall — there’s room for improvement but there’s promise.

Great pizzeria! New York style in Chicago, fantastic. We ordered a Bianca with sausage and due carne, super flavor. Great cannoli with pistachios too(I am a huge on cannoli!)

This place is great. An Italian place with BYOB in Chicago is relatively hard to find, so this is a great perk of this restaurant. The pizza was delicious – so similar to what I would eat when I studied abroad in Italy. The wait staff was super friendly and attentive. I’ll definitely be back!

Unbelievable! Dino created the most authentic Italian pizzeria in Chicago!!! A must try and repeat as often as possible. Fresh ingredients, superb service and authenticity! Our favorite pizzeria in Chicago from this Italian born Chicagoan!

I went here for a BYOB dinner with a group of 12 friends that were in town. It wasn’t the typical BYOB environment, it was quite small and we felt like our group was the only participating in the BYOB and having fun(a.k.a. being loud and obnoxious). If you are looking for good food, everyone loved their pizza but all were a little more on the well done side(burn marks from the woodfire I assume?). If you are looking for a big group BYOB I wouldn’t say this is the place since we felt quite out of place but I think it is the perfect spot for a date and a quiet bottle of wine.

Delicious and Dino is the MAN. Favorite new pizza spot in Chicago. Perfect for date night, group dinners, and a night with friends. Apps, entrees, and pizzas are all delicious. Have yet to order something mediocre. Love it!

Authentic Italian Pizzeria. Gracious customer service — we arrived on a cold and rainy spring night and the wait staff was welcoming, friendly and professional. The food was served promptly and was outstanding! Both the restaurant and bathrooms were spotless. Dino, the owner, stopped by our table and told us about his restaurant, where the ingredients come from and how everything is fresh and authentic. We were recently in Rome and La Crosta was as good as the pizzerias there. We’ll definitely go back again… and again!

We came across this gem after seeing a play at Victory Gardens Theater. It was exactly what we were looking for. The marguerita pizza was crisp and cooked to perfection. Many of the ingredients are imported from Italy and baked in their 800 degree oven. The $ 5 corkage fee for the wine we brought was a bargain, and they will soon be getting their license to serve beer and wine. The décor is authentic and gives the feel of being in Italy. Dino, the owner, visited with us and shared the interesting background of the place-fun! i posted about it on my Facebook page to let my friends know not to miss it-and neither should you. We will be back! Please don’t review this business if you received a freebie for writing this review, or if you’re connected in any way to the owner or employees.

Paper thin, super fast! 2 people can easily share 1 pizza. Dino, the owner, came over and chatted with us about the 800-degree oven and ingredients he uses(straight from Naples and other parts of Italy). Very spacious interior with a variety of brick patterns give it a cozy yet vast feel(sounds strange, but it’s awesome!). As for«la crosta», you will want to consume every last bit of it, especially dragged through some olive oil. Take advantage of the BYO($ 5 corkage) until they get a liquor license!

I had high hopes for this place. I’m not sure if it’s because we got there late(9PM on a Wednesday) or this is just how it is… We started with the bruschetta, which was delicious! No doubt! Decent portion, decent price. We got 3 pizzas. the Margherita, Due Carne, and Carciofi & Truffle Oil. The crust had a charcoal-y taste but the edges still tasted slightly raw to me. The middles were either soggy or so thin they were non existent. All the pizzas pretty much fell apart. We all liked the Margherita the best. 3 pizzas were barely enough food for the 5 of us. They’re super thin so 1 person can probably eat an entire pizza, esp boys. Idk if I can justify spending $ 15+ for one pizza for myself though. We wanted the nutella pie, but they were out of nutella. Huge disappointment, but the owner was nice enough to give us a slice of the Death by Chocolate. We all devoured it! It was almost like a chocolate cheesecake. delicious! Not sure I would ever paid $ 8 for it though. Overall, the food was decent. Pricey for what you get and not all that mind blowing. Again, I don’t know if it’s just because we came late but that shouldn’t be an excuse for mediocre quality.

Went here for the first time tonight and loved it. The pizzas were big enough to split and the house salad was a very generous portion. Great food and great service, would highly recommend!

Wonderful, informative staff to guide you through a menu of fresh ingredients. Their pizzas have a smokey undertone from the ovens… so good. One pizza generally feeds two people, so you have the opportunity to sample some of their tasty appetizers. Me? I highly recommend the burrata prosciutto & crostini. They are BYO, but have a $ 5 corkage fee.

Finally a real PIZZERIA! This is by far the most delicious TRUEITALIAN pizza in town. Dino is a master and the ingredients he uses are the best. Whichever pizza you choose, you won’t be disappointed!

The pizza is the bomb and its BYOB! I’ve had the spicy coppa twice, both times delicious! The crust is great and the cook is perfect. The bruschetta is also delicious! Fresh and piled high. Bring a bottle and a friend and come enjoy some pizza! Also join the email list for good deals.

This place is amazing!!! Very attentive owners and quick service. We stopped here on the way to a show and had a leisurely and fantastic meal. The Bianca pizza has the best flour-y, crispy crust and the perfect amount of cheese. We each had a cannoli for dessert(don’t split one — you deserve a whole one to yourself) and were in post-dinner heaven. This is a great date place — go here soon and often.

Based on the reviews I was hoping to find my next go to pizza place. Sadly, that did not happen. I ordered delivery, and on a positive not it came quickly in order 45 minutes. However, it was luke warm at best upon arrival. A little warmth would have been nice. The next issue was that one pizza was ordered with no cheese. The cheese came on the pizza. Luckily big chunks of mozzarella are pretty easy to remove, but it was annoying and wrecked the look of the pizza. The due carni was a wreck. The sopressata was pretty good, with a nice spicy heat, but so much it overcame the pizza. But on 8 slices of pizza only 6 had some sopressata. The barese sausage was inedible. The sausage had a unappealing smell, was gross to look at and tasted terrible. It ruined the pizza. The second pizza was the spicy coppa. The coppa was decent on this but arrived halfway burnt. The crust of the pizza was decent with a nice wood fire burnt taste to it. The base was a touch to thin and didn’t hold up to the ingredients. For wood fired pizza this is a miss. There are better options in the city, especially at this outrageous price.

DELICIOUSDELICIOUSDELICIOUS! My favorite new pizza place in the city, offering some of the best Italian crust pizza on this side of the Atlantic. Portions are large and the pizzas are flavorful and full of fresh ingredients. Luckily I dined here with a group, so we were each able to try a slice or two of each other’s pizzas. My favorite — the Truffle Burrata from the Pizze Bianche and the Due Carne from Pizze Rosse sections. I also tried the Panzerotti for good measure, which was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming and Dino, the owner, visited each table in the restaurant to introduce himself and make sure everything was enjoyable. La Crosta is going to be a great addition to the neighborhood and I am excited to dine here again!

Went here on a Sunday night for a quiet dinner and it was delicious! This is the closest to Italian pizza I’ve had since leaving Italy. The atmosphere was nice and it being a BYOB restaurant doesn’t hurt either. Would definitely recommend — really yummy pizza!

This is my favorite place for authentic Pizza. Wood Fire oven with fresh imported ingredients on a perfectly golden crust makes this one of Chicago’s BEST Artisanal Pizzerias. Dino and the staff are welcoming, available, and offered exceptional server. The atmosphere was very cozy and inviting as well. I recommend stopping by and order a pie or 2. It’s the place to have you tastebuds blown way.

My friend recommended La Crosta to me and I am so glad she did! We stopped in on Sunday night and I thought the place was just adorable! Super cozy, great date spot or a place to go with some friends. BYOB. The arugula salad was amazing and good to share for two people. We ordered a pizza and it came out fast which was really nice, and we also finished it so fast that we had to order another one! The food is light, fresh, and delicious. I highly recommend stopping by and having dinner!

My wife and I were looking for a place to eat on our way from the Red Line Fullerton Stop to the Greenhouse Theatre on N. Lincoln Ave for an evening show. We saw La Crosta Woodfire Pizzeria Italiana on Goggle maps and saw that it was right on the way, so we stopped in for dinner. What a really pleasant surprise. The owner Dino came to our table to make sure everything was perfect. He made the visit even more special. We shared a nice carpaccio appetizer which was good, but the reason we came was the woodfired oven pizza and that was the truly the highlight of the meal. We shared a red sauce pizza called the Carne Due. The carne(meat) was a tasty Calabrese sausage and a wonderfully spicy Sopressata salami. The pizza was cooked to perfection with a warm bubbly crust with a bit of toastyness around the edges from the wood fire. The sauce was delicious and added just the right amount of tanginess to the pie. I loved mopping the remnants of the sauce up with the remaining crust. I can’t wait to go back and try their white pizzas and some more of the reds too.

Tried a cheese & sausage pizza here earlier this week. Very nice flaky, bubbling crust, excellent sauce — just a hint of tanginess. Atmosphere had a warm vibe. Earth tones with slight rustic feel made it seem like a nice place to go on a cold day. Good date night place.
