I’ve been to Global Coffee and Cargo a few times now. I love the outdoor seating in the garden. It’s an awesome place to set up shop and play a board game or read a book outside. The service the first time I went was excellent. I ordered their detox juice. It was fresh, super tasty, and refreshing. The second time I went, I ordered the exact same thing, but it took forever for them to make. I’m talking almost 15 minutes, and they gave away one of our juices to a customer who ordered after us. The quality also wasn’t as good as the first time, which was a huge bummer. I like the overall mission though of Global Coffee and Cargo and would definitely support them again the future.

Maybe I was expecting more because of all the great reviews. Coffee was average to below average and I also had a muffin that tastes like it was bought in bulk from Costco. It was not an inviting atmosphere. I would never recommend this place.

Bizarre. I was in the mood for coffee and food while I worked. Based on the reviews of this place, I trekked over here and was looking forward to hanging out for a couple hours. I walk in to what looks like a run-down thrift store and realize that the same room is also a coffee shop. It’s completely empty. What I assume is the kitchen area is dark. There is no food in the food case, and no menu for food or beverages in sight. The guy behind the counter glares at me as I approach the counter. Even so, I say hello, order a coffee, and ask about food options. He replies in a robotic way, «We no longer serve food.» I promptly thank him and leave – I then head up to Township and enjoy a lovely meal and great coffee in a nice atmosphere. I have a feeling Global Coffee and Cargo won’t be open much longer. They have almost nothing to offer, and wow does the staff suck.

I like this place, it’s run by old school Humboldt Park residents who are really representative of city natives, and not your usual surly hipster-douche-from-Iowa baristas. They’re friendly and they take care of your needs dutifully instead of looking like they’re inconvenienced by having to serve you. The food is good, furniture comfy, and there’s A HUGEOUTDOORGARDENPATIO. —Here are the main details of the overall expereince — - Food: Good food, including breakfast food, good coffee. I love being able to get pancakes while I work. Internet: Cable, 3 megabytes/sec download. Seating: Comfortable, plentiful, and A HUGEOUTDOORFREAKINGGARDEN Coffee: Pretty Good Ambiance: Feels pretty homey, like visiting your uncle’s bar furnished with your grandfather’s old bootlegging-day furniture. Comfy and quiet. You can relax without overhearing self-important conversations about people’s DJ careers or how awesome vinyl &VHS are. Basically if you just want some fucking food, coffee, and internet and to be comfortable while you get it, this is the place.

Great little café for a quiet brunch. Had the spiced French toast and a delicious cup of coffee. Enjoyed it very much. Nice little spot for coffee and a bite. Happy to support their work in the neighborhood. Can’t wait to come back when their outdoor space is open.

My experiences here are all over the place. Occasionally, I’ve had to wait half an hour for my food grumpily served to me; other times, I’ve had great conversations with the people who wok there. The food itself, while never mind-blowingly delicious, has not disappointed me yet. I did have an absolutely amazing juice one time, which of course is juiced fresh, but maybe my expectations were higher because I had to wait so long for the darned thing. While I’ve never seen the place busy in terms of customers, it’s certainly busy in terms of decorations!

Global Coffee and Cargo helps fund the Jack Clark Rehab organization, which means you should give it at least one chance. I love this place. So off the wall, cozy, and interesting. Like the maps of Hawai’i on the bathroom walls. Not to mention that their food holds really good ground, and they roast wonderful coffee. The guys that work here are friendly, and do their very best to not only make me happy with my food, but to feel warm and welcome when I’m in. There’s free wifi, and a super fun thrift store attached. Have yet to go to open mic nights on Thursdays, but it’s on my to-do list. and now I’m going to go pick up my delish grilled cheese with tomatoes and side of potatoes from them…

Worth a visit — especially if you are looking to sit and work on your computer for a while. The coffee is OK, and the staff are pretty friendly, and I found that I could come here and work on my computer for a long while and no one bothered me. Now I always feel I should order a coffee and food if I am going to stick around, so I would suggest the same. The internet password is in a frame over by the creamers. Friendly people. Not run by girls with tattoos and cool hair dye, but if you live in this area, this is a good place to do the coffee shop thing.

Great iced coffee, smoothies, and hashbrowns. It’s always quiet enough to get business done, and close enough to just stop in for a coffee and leave. It’s a 501c non profit that helps people get back on their feet, and the thrift store next door never disappoints(rare Springsteen shirt for a buck? yes please). To Jennifer R, this is actually EXACTLY what this neighborhood needs: a business that is dedicated to bettering members of the community through employment, accountability meetings, and affordable housing while also supporting a community garden. What this neighborhood DOESN’T need is another pretentious, hipster shithole full of college dropouts using coffee slinging as self validation(I’m lookin’ at you, new wave). Also they’re all about letting your dogs hang out, which is convenient.

OH! Now I get it — I clicked on their website, everything makes sense now. I stopped in for coffee on a Saturday morning and I was intrigued by this establishment — neat furniture, friendly people, good iced coffee. I like it even more that its a 501C3 that helps people get back on their feet! What a great place!

This sweet café and thrift shop combo warms my crafty little heart. And by «crafty» I’m talking glue guns and Mod Podge here, not Snidely Whiplash. If you have a crafty heart and enjoy fresh, tasty sandwiches, cozy quirky spaces, and reasonably priced thrift goodies, I think you’ll love this place too. My only complaint is with the coffee: my mocha was decent, but a bit weak.

What an awesome place! My bf just opened a studio location down the street, and we stopped in here for lunch. This is a place where I could sit and work alllllll day. In fact, I will. I’m a grad student. This is absolutely perfect! The food absolutely blew us away — so much, so good, and so cheap! The bf got chili and a burger, I got a sandwich. Despite our best attempts, we couldn’t finish it all, and were able to wrap it up and head back to work. This could definitely become my new coffee stop in the morning. I really dig this place.

Cute little place. Don’t know when their hours changed, but I came in at 2:20 on a Monday and was told they were closing at 3 pm. Nice amount of tea for the money, and my hummus platter was huge, probably 75% veggies and 25% pita, which was awesome. I think this is the only vegan thing on the menu, FYI. The girl behind the counter was super sweet.

I was here for the first time on a dreary day, and I couldn’t have picked a better combination of weather, coffee, and seating location for my first impression. I love that upon walking in here, I am not forced to immediately begin scouring the room for a place to sit. It has never been super crowded, and you can totally make your experience one of talking to the baristas behind the counter or simply getting your work done at a table by the window. I really did not expect the coffee to be as magnificent as it was! I have not tried any food items yet, but I’ve watched numerous people order nourishment and walk away satisfied. The music always differs, and sometimes it makes me feel like the angsty 8th grader I was at some point in my life… and I like that. Only one sad thing: $ 5 minimum for debit cards. But hey, all the more reason to drink more coffee right?

I find the Global products and atmosphere to be highly confusing. The service is not great, but I haven’t had a particularly bad experience yet. First, the coffee. I actually dig the coffee. Their black coffee is a little rough so opt for the milk and sugar. However, I do not have confidence in the staff to make anything more complicated than plain coffee. Breakfast: I had a egg sandwich on a bagel. I have to say it was pretty darn good. The bf had a friend egg sandwich which he said he enjoyed. Other than a little slow service, I will probably be back for breakfast. Lunch: Will definitely NOT be back for lunch. They don’t seem to have an actual kitchen so everything is pretty much frozen. I had the pesto chicken melt which was really just a re-heated frozen commercially produced breaded chicken patty with some lettuce, tomato, and onion. The pesto was nowhere to be seen. The bf had the veggie burger. Again, definitely came from the freezer aisle. I don’t know why they bother with all these fancy organic teas and fresh juices and smoothies and they’re serving frozen crap. 1. Get a real kitchen. 2. Cook real food. This neighborhood needs a place just like this but one that doesn’t suck. Service: Slow and awkward. It seems like they mean well and want to do a good job but lack any training. A handful of orders seem to overwhelm the staff. Atmosphere: I have no idea how this place stays in business. I have never seen the place busy. That said, it’s a quiet place to get work done. The décor is confusing. The place is full of large tables which seems odd for a coffee shop. I can’t imagine they get a lot of big groups. Smaller tables would be be a much better fit for this place. I do like some of the decorations, they could really use more globes and maps for decorations and toss out some of the grandmothery stuff. I am really confused by the little lovers’ nook at the front of the store. Go there, you’ll see what I mean. Why would anyone want to sit there? In conclusion, I will probably be back for breakfast and coffee on occasion but will be secretly hoping someone buys them out and turns it into the awesome café this neighborhood needs.

This is a really chill spot near my crib that I can stop at without the hustle and bustle or pretentiousness of some other places. The staff are mad cool and down to earth as well. The Rishi teas here are really great. I was sick a couple weeks ago and tried the White Ginseng Detox and man did it do wonders. The Veggie Wrap is really great; mixed greens, carrots, red pepper hummus, etc. It really hit the spot. Haven’t tried much else on the menu besides a fruit salad which had kiwi and was pretty on point. Will definitely be back for the chill vibe on cooler autumn days and study purposes.

Discovered a gem. Went for a walk today, looking for a perfect little place to have coffee/tea and some breakfast. Found it. Duchon could not have been nicer. The café au lait was good(no skim milk though.) Veggie omelet was on special. Tasted good, next time I will add some cheese. Nice quiet place to chill on weekday morning anyhow. Lots of outdoor season, too bad it’s getting late in the season for that! I’ll be back… often.
