Some of the best fried seafood you can find. Great seasoned batter that compliments fish instead of overpowering it. Fish and shrimp are great size. I’ve eaten Hagen’s which is in the area and would recommend as well(Fish sandwich is delicious and you can get large crab legs there for reasonable price), however Frank’s has much larger shrimp for a better price, and you don’t loose any quality in flavor. You can’t beat fresh fish, fast service, and this is now the only place I will eat hush puppies from. *Note: my husband loves tartar sauce which they don’t supply, however we just make from scratch before we order.

I typically visit Grand Avenue Shrimp house since Frank’s is a bit farther; however Grand’s is close on Sundays, so decided to drive to Frank’s. I had not been here in about a year. What a disappointment! Ordered their Chicago style Jumbo shrimp which I’ve had numerous times before. The shrimp was bland. Absolutely NOTASTE. The size of the shrimp was inconsistent, and yet none of them appeared to be jumbo. You can review the photo I added. With ordering 2 lbs. I received 2 cocktail sauces, and one was frozen. The shrimp were fresh, but still flavorless. The service was average. Their hot sauce tasted more like a mild barbecue. Unsure how the recipe has changed so much because I used to be a fan. They have truly managed to lower the quality and eliminate the flavor. I don’t foresee myself returning.

My favorite shrimp and fish chips! Always fresh, never frozen! That’s what makes it special to us.

One of the better shrimp houses… Great Chicago style fried shrimp. Tasty hush puppies. Great classic Chicago style batter(not a babies batter). Original sauces. Should have fresh cut fries. Should have jumbo scallops.(If so than 5 Stars) Would be great if a horseradish sauce was an option also. *Frank’s(towards ownership), It is worth getting rid of the frozen fries… Get those fresh cut fries in motion at all locations. It will generate more profits vs. the frozen fries and it would also add further reputability to your business. Be one of the first to do this, not the last.

Hey besides the friendly service and quick quality food, this place rocks! Always a good vibe from the people that work there. The garlic shrimp is my favorite! The mild sauce is like bbq and I just love it. If you have not tried Frank’s shrimp your not living the good life!

Very pleasant staff and amazing shrimp. Great batter, clean oil, crispy. Some of the best fried seafood I’ve had in Chicago.

Was good and fast. I liked the fact that they remove the tail from the shrimp versus some other places. Also the place was very clean and basic. The scallops were good too. There is a little garlic seasoning that they put on. Price is a little high, but then again I don’t know what the market value for seafood is either. All in all, a positive and pleasant experience. The staff was cool. If I am ever back in this area and crave some shrimp, I will stop by.

OK, so I grew up on the fish & chips from a nearby shop probably less than a mile away. I truly believe it is what you grow up that influences your tastes. I ended up here because I did not want to deal with traffic on Montrose because it still looks messed up from construction, I was craving fish chips and this was a fairly easy detour down Irving. I ordered ½lb of fish and hush puppies. Wish I would have noticed the fried cauliflower. The prices are comparable to «the other» fish place. Frank’s chips are much larger and crispier than the other place. Because they are larger it gives you the mental picture of not getting as much — but ½ a lb is ½ a lb, it’s the same amount. The hush puppies were a bit more BUT you get quite a bit more and they are larger and they are also very good. The only complaint is that I did not like the cocktail sauce at all, it was more like BBQ sauce than a cocktail sauce. I. made my own when I got home. I am not sure if it is just a lot of Worcestershire sauce(which I do love) or what, but it it very dark in color and just tastes like BBQ sauce. I would go here again to check out the Chicago style fried shrimp and fried cauliflower. This is strictly a chippy shop and not a fish shop like the other shop that also sells fresh fish by the lb and frozen fish and has a small grocery store supply of fish related things. It’s strictly for eating pleasure.

Good shrimp, good sauces, good cole slaw, good fries. Hush puppies. Are tasty. I have been buying the dinners, fish and shrimp since they opened never a problem always good. Have a tough time finding enough room for the hush puppies. Want to try something else on menu but I am stuck on the shrimp.

The shrimp was cooked fast & to perfection. The price was high for ½ pound of shrimp but I was pleased with the taste of the shrimp. I will definitely be back soon

Fast, fresh, reasonably priced seafood. What else would you need? It is clean, the staff is pleasant & the seafoid is hand-breaded so you don’t end up with so much breading that you cannot even taste the seafood, which is endemic at other places. Go for the Chicago style Shrimp, which is seasoned with garlic and other spices, you can’t beat it, it is yummy beyond compare!

I sometimes go to Frank’s Archer Ave location. Good food, but prices are very high. I remember 1 lb of fish chips were $ 1.50 compared to $ 9.50 today. Soon they will be $ 10.00.

If you’re ever craving seafood deep fried, this is the place to go. Some friends and I came here to pick up some fried food to go down with some beers that we were planning on having. Let’s just say we ordered way more than we could handle. The two staff members, who I think we’re owner and son were super helpful. Being that it was our first time there, they made valuable suggestion but we decided to bite off more than we could chew. We orders shrimp, scallops, some fish and hush puppies. The short wait inside didn’t make our clothes smell like I had imagined. The food was fried and packaged quickly and efficiently. Upon getting home and plating everything did we realize we ordered too much. Nonetheless everything was seasoned and fried perfectly. A light batter that wasn’t dense or soggy. Hot fresh seafood centers and nice tangy and spicy dipping sauces. Awesome food joint!

I’ve been coming here since it was originally down addison by Linder right where I grew up. They have always been super friendly and it’s definitely a childhood memory going here in the summer with the pops. They recently moved down irving not too long ago so it’s still in the neighborhood and I can’t complain. The shrimp is just amazing. Jumbo sized lightly but perfectly battered and super flavorful. You can either get the Chicago style(breaded with garlic) or the regular(breaded no garlic) I like both but I’d recommend the original as a first timer. I’ve tried their ocean perch which is good but I just love love their shrimp and don’t want to order anything else, lol. People complain about the prices but they’re pretty decent given its seafood and seafood isn’t cheap when it’s good. Crinkle fries, hush puppies, jalapeño poppers and fried pickles are all amazing sides-fries are always a must no matter what! Their sauce is just to die, perfectly tangy! Personally I LOVE their hot sauce-ask for a tub and you won’t be disappointed. If you’re a shrimp person this is a must try!

¾ pound is what I usually order… I might have to UPgrade to a lb. though, ’cause I is greedy and I loves the shrimps!

One more hidden gem in portage/irving park! I’m from the south burbs originally and the shrimp here remind me of the famous Hiene McCarthy’s in Orland. Frank’s prices are on the low end, especially for the quality — a new favorite.

Extremely over priced for both the quantity and quality of food served here. Its unfortunate, that this is the only place in our neighborhood to purchase a fried fish sandwich. Not impressed.

The food was awesome. This place was spotless, and they were cleaning my entire time I waited for my order. I have been to places that had a fishy smell. Not here at Franks. They were quick to get my order out. The fried oyster were great. I will be back and my only reason for the 4 stars is that I did not get offered any sauces. I had two sauces in the bottom of my bag. One was a spicy ketchup the other I think was a cocktail sauce. I am a tatar person.

I normally don’t give a review so high for a business, but I personally like this little raggedy place! The food is really good and always fresh and the employees are nice and very efficient with your order. AND! They have amazing Hush Puppies!

The best shrimp in all of Chicago. The lady that waited on me was most pleasant, friendly and helpful. Service was great, food was super, I will be back whenever I am in the area. Place was clean.

Freindly. Fast. Simple. Straight to the point. The only thing holding me back from giving the spot the big 5 is the fact that they use mostly frozen product. It’s literally 5 minutes from my home and I know I can count on it for a quick treat. The scallops and the mushrooms are my favorites.

Great job guys! I usually don’t eat like this but my wife and I decided it was time for a treat! Great Shrimp, the batter was light enough that you still taste the shrimp. Fried Oysters with a perfect Briney Flavor to them were awesome! Hush Puppies were delicious! We also had Clam Strips, they were OK, but wouldn’t get them again! This is a place you have to try! Heads up, really a To-Go place, but they do have a bench and ledge to eat from if you want(that’s what we did!) Next time; Fried Scallops, Cat Fish, & Frog Legs for sure!!!

I just moved to the area so I was hoping to compare this to Lawrence’s Fisheries in the city. They definitely don’t have the selection of Lawrences but they do everything well. The Chicago Style shrimp was beyond delicious. It didn’t taste like garlic but I haven’t had the plain before so I can’t compare. Big, juicy pieces of shrimp that were fried to perfection. And that cocktail sauce was just kick*ss. Seriously delicious. Everything was fried perfectly. Luckily we live close so it was still hot when we got home. Lawrence’s has a leg up on the hot sauce but Frank’s shrimp and cocktail sauce is the winner. I will be back many times over.
