On a mission to find a gym, I checkout out this Curves, near Addison and Southport. Place was clean; typical of the equipment layout that you see on the Curves website; folks(age range 20s to 60s) were friendly during my one-week(free) trial; and the hours were reasonable for me(although this one’s not open as many hours as, say, the one on Lincoln). Staff members were nice and helpful. This is NOT a gym per se, but a specific equipment format for women, taking a little over 30 minutes per session. I downgraded the stars because of the phone calls. When I first inquired about the place, I sent an email requesting a time for a «tour.» A lady called and left a message to «confirm» that I was«still» coming, even though I hadn’t received a prior call or email to let me know that the time I had requested was okay. No matter. However, after the one-week trial, My Darling and I decided that we wanted to work out together and chose the YMCA for a variety of reasons. Two weeks after that, I received two voicemails from Curves. The first caller wanted to know when I’d be coming for the free trial week. What the…? The second caller said she knew I’d visited during the free week and was I just a «chicken» for not coming back? She actually called me «chicken» twice in the voicemail. Maybe this is the«Chicago way,» but somehow I don’t think so. I had not been back in touch because of an emergency run out-of-state for my mom. What a rude and ridiculous way for a business to entice clients in this type of economy.
