As an anglophile, I was very happy to find a great pasty in Chicago. Hearty, authentic & delicious. Although the main location is closed, I highly recommend them for catering & also recommend the food truck(if it’s still operating). A quick personal note. One time last summer, I was down in Bridgeport on my scooter which decided to die on me. A MASSIVE storm was rolling in & I wasn’t able to line up a tow truck in time. The owner allowed me to park in their back yard, and never asked for anything in return. Even though I never fully thanked you for it, it was greatly appreciated & hope to see you re-open again!

My family is from the UP. So I grew up eating Pasty’s when we would visit up there. This place brings back great memories from my childhood. Their food is just like the originals I had growing up. Great flavor. Cooked perfect. We drive in every six months and buy 20. I recommend this place to everyone.

Really great pastys and surprisingly good soup! Love that they have a vegetarian option for when I’m feeling less than carnivorous. It’s an added bonus to be able to grab a pasty and walk over to Bridgeport coffee for a drink or vice versa.

wasn’t impressed, the bread is light and tasty, the filling was lack-luster, I had the steak and ham & cheese. Very friendly service!

I brake for pasty shops. Well, hot on the heels of our last pasty experience in San Luis Obispo, we stumble upon Bridgeport Pasty in our meanderings around little neighborhoods in Chicago. How can this be? A gem of a pasty shop in the middle of what looks like a residential neighborhood, with a beautiful patio and garden out back to enjoy a lovely day. I’m glad that pasty shops seem to have taken root in various places, since the last time I had a stellar one was in Dublin, Ireland. I’m glad to say that Bridgeport Pasty can hold its own, with its delicious Yooper, stuffed full of savory beef, potato, and onion. Delicious, although I preferred to add a little salt and pepper. The interior of the restaurant is nice too – cozy exposed brick, warm wood, the whole nine yards. Great place!

Went there with my niece, heard about this place and wanted to try it out. Tried the oinkle, chicken pot pie and veggie. Oinkle and chicken pot pie were OK, but the veggie one(filled with spinach) was delicious. They ran out of some of the other ones, I’ll be back to check them out at a later date.

Service is AMAZING! It’s a cute little store in Bridgeport and they have their own garden. The owners were so cute and she let us tried a sample of the soup. The broccoli cheddar was pretty good! The pot pie was not what I expected though. BBQPORK — Really tasty! Mine came right out of the oven. YOOPER — My bf didn’t really like it that much. It was not enough filling inside according to him. I think it’s an interesting place to check it out!

Yum, I finally got to try one of these pastries. I got the veggie, it was filled with spinach. The crust was soft and light, the filling was seasoned really well. This veggie pastry was $ 3.00, the truck was really cute too!

This small«handpie» shop in Bridgeport is a great find while I was working down there. The pasties have different fillings in them which I had the Yooper and the Steak and Stilton. SOGOOD. Their soups are very satisfying as well. The next time I’ll be down there — I’ll definitely be their«hot pockets!»

I LOVE the steak and Stilton pasty. This is one of those things were you have to just keep trying until you find the one you like — the oinkle was too herby for me, and the BBQ chicken a bit dull(although the boyfriend liked it). Cute storefront, never too long of a wait. They also do great catering with pasties, soup, and cookie for a reasonable price!

This is a review of the food truck. I really wanted to like this place. My husband is English, and got me hooked on the good old fashioned pasty, but you just can’t get decent ones here, not even in the British eateries(that I’ve been to, anyways). Both the hubs and I tried the Yooper, as this was closest to a traditional pasty. The meat was all in a clump on one end of the pasty, and a majority of it was chunks of potato. Not bad, bot pretty boring. Neither of us finished ours. I don’t mean to imply that they freeze their pasties, because I don’t think they do, but I have had better pasties that were frozen and reheated. My friend had the Chic-Pot-Pie and liked it, but when he gave me a bite I nearly spat it out. I have no idea why, but it tasted exactly like GRASS(not a euphemism for a less-printable word; it literally tasted like how cut grass smells). I don’t know… there seems to be this thing with food trucks. Everyone seems to rant and rave about them but anytime I’ve actually tried them it’s merely… okay.

Pasty’s remind me of my childhood. Never heard of a pasty before? Don’t worry… every family seems to have their own variety of what I see as basically the same thing: A pastry crust filled with meat and/or veggies that you can eat while holding it in your hand. Think: empanadas, calzones, samosas, hand pies, etc. You’ve got the picture. I had my first pasty in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. And my most recent from Bridgeport Pasty — a food truck — while at the Food Truck Extravaganza in Schaumburg, IL. Everything about this handheld savory dish was excellent! The outer crust was oh so yummy and the filling had a nice texture, wasn’t overly mushy and tasted great. I’ve come across this truck a few times and they have been out of my desired pasty more than once which is a disappointment. I’ll keep wandering up to see what they’ve got because they really are that good.

The store has a warm and inviting look to it. Very cozy and contemporary and the outside play area for those of us with kids is great. I met the owners personally and can say they have to be some of the nicest small business people I’ve ever met. I was raised in west-central U. P of MI where the pasty is ubiquitous and I can honestly say these pasties are authentic and tasty. In the U. P, they come just a bit larger and cheaper, but this is the big city, so didn’t expect the same gut-buster size as the U.P. Very worth the trip!

Been here many times over the last year, and it has never disappointed. The pasties are amazing, their patio is one of the best in the entire city, and their roof is covered in solar panels. How cool is that?! The owners are extremely nice, genuine locals who care for the neighborhood. Sometimes they even show movies on their patio on Friday nights. My only complaint would be that the soups are a little bland to my tastes, but five stars anyway because of how awesome the owners are and because the pasties are delicious and a great value.

I have been excited to try out Bridgeport Pasty ever since I heard about them, but I just never had the chance to stop by or catch the truck. Finally, a couple of my friends and I decided to stop by for a quick bite. The store is connected to what seems like someone’s apartment. If you need the bathroom or wash your hands, be prepared to walk through someone’s kitchen. For service, I had a similar experience as Jessica V. When my friends and I arrived, we were not greeted by a cheerful employee but someone who mumbles and seems to hate his job. We also asked what different pastries they offered and all he did was point to the menu. Sorry I thought I was entitled to some sort of customer service. The employee just stood there staring at us and kept asking if we were ready. No sir… I’m clearly reading about all the different pastries that are offered since you didn’t want to help me. Finally, I ordered the oinkle and a tomato soup. The oinkle is filled with pork sausage, apples, onions, potatoes, and sage. When I received the pastry, the crust was crispy and flakey but the filling was a pile of mush. It was probably because the pastry was sitting out for a while and it wasn’t heated back up. The tomato soup was also a disappointment. The soup was served to me lukewarm and had a funky taste to it. I know it is homemade, but it had a huge sour taste to it(which I usually like sour) like it was spoiled. I really tried to like this place, but I would not recommend this place to a single soul. The service was horrible and the food was just as bad(maybe because the owner wasn’t present). I have no clue where all these good reviews came from, but do not believe the hype.

Darn good pasties! I got pasties with my friend from their mobile truck at a recent food truck meetup in Schaumburg. My friend had never heard of pasties… except for… well, the other kind. She kept talking about tassels and things swinging around while we were eating. I have some family from the UP and sometimes these crazy people will get together and do a marathon pasty making session all day long. Seeing as I’m completely biased, I think my family makes better pasties but Bridgeport Pasty comes pretty close. Their veggie pasty is where it’s at! My family only does meat pasties so I really enjoyed having one stuffed with just spinach, mushrooms and just about every delicious vegetable I’m on good terms with. It was flaky and just had great flavor. Dinner for $ 5 inside a cool little pastry pie? I’m down with it!

SO happy that I found this place. These pasties are AWESOME. I got the Steak & Stilton, and the Oinkle(filled with sage sausage… reminded me of thanksgiving stuffing). Got a soda and a fresh baked cookie as well. Everything was excellent.

Let’s begin with a sort of mathematical equation: Italian Beef/Chicago Native = Pasty/U.P. Native Pasties were a big part of my upbringing and usually the thing we would take on picnics in summer(that very brief season up north.) Mom used to make them, and there were several pasty shops one could stop at even in our small town. I’ve made many a pasty and hosted many a pasty supper, too. That said, I have to admit that Bridgeport Pasty beats them all for flavor and choices. Pretty good price point, too. The pasties are five bucks and the soups are three. There were about six to seven varieties of pasties available. They’re all baked fresh that day. I stopped here with a friend for lunch and was happy to see not only the takeout option, but a decent amount of seating. The first thing that struck me seeing the pasties in the deli case was their size. Bridgeport pasties are about half the size of what I’m accustomed to, but I like that a lot. Gives us the opportunity, as my friend and I did, to try or share a few, and have some soup as well. We shared the Yooper, a Steak and the Pork varieties. All were chocked full of meat and flavor. The Pork one took a little getting used too with it’s strong sage influence. But the pastry crust, the fillings and that special«slippery» part where the two meet made my taste buds jump for joy. Soups were creamy smooth and delicious, too. So is this Yooper coming back? Yah, you betcha’ dere, ey!

My sister told me to give them a try as she liked their chic pot pie. So, on our way to dropping off my niece to school, I jumped out of the car and picked up 2 pasties. Chic Pot Pie — I was a bit surprised as it was more of a curry taste that my mom uses. I wouldn’t say I was a big fan, but my sister likes it. Veggie — I really wanted to try this, but it was too salty. It was filled with spinach, but couldn’t really taste the mushroom. I thought the crust would be hard around the edges and dry, but it was light and flaky. Really went well with the fillings. They also don’t skimp on the fillings. I’m also surprised that they come out piping hot and not dry from the case. When I return next time, I’ll try something else and maybe a soup.

What’s a pasty? Well… its basically a large empanada or a crunchy calzone. Bridgeport Pasty was a quick fix for lunch when we found out that Arby’s in the loop had closed down! We were offered the following choices: BBQ-shredded beef, BBQ sauce, onion, green pepper Ginger Chicken– chicken, tomatoes, cauliflower, ginger Oinkle– pork sausage, apples, potato, onion Veggie-spinach, mushrooms, gruyère cheese, cream sauce Yooper-seasoned beef, potato, cabbage, onion I ordered the yooper and it tasted delicious! The flavors were really good and there were large chunks of meat. The crust of the pasty was also very flaky and yummie. The Bridgeport Pasty is basically a little cart looking vehicle and everything is pre-made. It was located on the corner of State and Jackson when we visited. Keep a lookout for them and make sure you get to them for your favorite before they run out!
