When you think of local business do you think of Target, or Walgreens? Nope. You’re just a number there. However, go to Ballin, and you feel like a number. Number 1. If you believe in the golden rule, you should immediately switch your prescriptions to this mom and pop pharmacy. They go the extra mile to assure that they have exceeded your expectations. Whenever I have a prescription, I always use Ballin because I can expect high quality service, a friendly pharmacist, and someone who actually cares about you and doesn’t treat you like a number. Support local small business, and I can assure you, as the golden rule goes, they will treat you well right back.

I always love to go here and get my Rx filled. Louise is GREAT and I love that she knows me, knows my kids and treats me like family. This is a great little pharmacy and the medicines I use are priced fairly. Thanks!

I love this pharmacy. The employees are very polite and helpful. They know me by name when I walk in. It is a small store but surprisingly they have everything that you would need. I recently had an incident that put me in the hospital. And when I went to Ballin everyone was very caring and made me feel right at home.

My friend referred me here and after finally getting on my own insurance, I switched over. Here is what I love: 1. They know who I am. I have one little Rx filled a month and when I pick it up, I don’t even have to tell them my name. Talk about customer service. 2. Last week, I was running late from work since my boss came in at the last minute, right before we close. The pharmacy closes at 6pm and the brown line was standing for a while, so I was cutting it VERY close. I get off the train, race down the block and three employees are coming out. I say, «Oh you’re closed»(in a nice voice) and I realize I’ll have to come back the next day. But then they offer to help me anyway after asking why I was there(just a pick-up). The one guy checks me out, the other holds the alarm and within a minute and a half, I’m all set to go! How friendly! Most places would have grumbled they were closed and walked away but not at Ballin. Thanks for great service every time! (Obviously, the limited hours are an issue but the perks more than make up for this in my mind.)

I love this pharmacy. I first went there because I lived close and it was convenient but it’s been four years and four moves to different parts of the city and I still venture back to Ballin because I love the service and I am happy to support a small business. The folks who work there are very nice and they always have my prescriptions ready quickly.

My daughter was ill and we were in need of a humidifier. I remembered seeing humidifiers in the window at Ballin and decided to walk over rather than dealing with the usual mess at Target. The manager did a great job of selling me on the Vicks 5100N Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier for the cool price of $ 80.13(before tax). I suspected the price was too high and explicitly asked if it was priced competetively as compared to Target or some other store. Now I’m fully appreciative that as a small shop they may not get the volume pricing of a big box store — but a 44% markup from what I could get at Target or online is highway robbery. I was able to by the same humidifier at Target for $ 44.99 — cheaper online if I was willing to wait. I called the store after doing some online research and they would take it back assuming I hadn’t opened the box and had my receipt. I returned it the following day and the manager was in the«back» and so the younger man would issue the return. I explained that I didn’t appreciate the deceptiveness and that $ 80.13 is not competitive. He was rude and declared he couldn’t disagree more with me. I told him there was nothing to disagree with — the numbers spoke for themselves. I even went through the trouble of printing out some price comparisons for Ballins. The small look and feel is great — but the premise of a mom and pop shop is to be able to provide great service on a basis of ethics. These people are worse than any big box store. I will never shop there again no matter how desperate I am. Shame on them.

Remember when you were a kid, and you went to the library, and the book-and-cassette duos came in those little plastic bags with the hanger on them? Re-live it at Ballin, where your prescriptions hang charmingly in those bags behind the counter. If you give them your name and they can’t find your prescription right away, have them check under your first name — that’s right, this pharmacy actually works on a first-name basis. Old school. I love this place; I really do. The pharmacists and counter staffers are ridiculously friendly and helpful. When I was having a double-billing issue with my insurance company, the pharmacist actually invited me to bring in all of my paperwork so we could go over it together, and then offered to call the insurance company on my behalf. When’s the last time someone offered you that at Target or Walgreens? My only qualm about this place is that its generics aren’t nearly as cheap as the chains. My rx would cost $ 4 at Target, and it’s $ 21 here. I’m all about supporting local, independent businesses, but I really hope this place will start offering generics more cheaply.
