I love this bakery. They have fresh delicious donuts, the old fashion kind. The store is big and clean and the pastries are well displayed. They have pre-made cakes ready to be inscribed, as well as custom made cakes. I stopped by to get a cake for a co-worker’s birthday and it was delicious.

These donuts were awesome. Way better than Stan’s and Dunkin Donuts.

The place is pretty nice and even has a little sandwich booth. I heard the sandwiches are good so I might come back to try one of those. I got a chocolate frosted doughnut and it has the thickest frosting I’ve ever had. Which isn’t bad at all considering I love chocolate.(Did I feel bad after? A little… but then why would I be eating a doughnut in the first place). My mom had a brownie with nuts and she said it was okay. My two brothers had cannolis and thought it was good but not something special.

I had a donut that was custard filled and quite delightful. The icing was reportedly buttercream, but tasted more like icing made with shortening — good but not as rich as I was hoping for. Frosted sugar cookies are good and pretty. Nice little place for a treat.

OMG this place is amazing! I had Dinkel’s brownies before since one of my co-workers love them. So I decided to order my mom’s birthday cake this year from here since I wasn’t able to make it to the burbs and order it from our usual spot. I placed the order online and within a few hours it was confirmed. I went to pickup the cake and didn’t realize I had to wait in the line where people were ordering to just pick up the cake but it’s ok. I had time to look around. The cake was amazing! Everyone loved the cake and I ended up getting some donuts too since I’ve heard good things about it. Will definitely be coming back to place future cake orders from here.

This place is AWESOME! I’m a croissant snob and this place just has an amazing crusty outside and chewy inside that you can’t find anywhere else. After falling in love with them and developing a new addition I’ve come back for their breads, cakes, danishes & donuts… NEVERTOBEDISAPPOINTED! Their prices are very reasonable and when you get a large order to go and it’s wrapped in that old fashion twine… You just know that your getting something magical, traditional and unique inside. Also makes for a phenomenal presentation for your guests when they see it. Keep in mind Sat gets BUSY!!!

Yum. Yum. The chocolate donut. Just yum. Service is good. The only thing is, why it doesn’t get *5, I don’t eat much outside their cookies and donuts. The few times I’ve purchased cupcakes or a cake slice, they were either dry or just average. Maybe it was a fluke those three times, bit I’d rather not try again with those products. I’ll just go elsewhere for that.

I stopped by Dinkel’s last Saturday on a suggestion from a co-worker, and was really impressed at the selection and quality of the food. I ordered a cheese danish and a breakfast sandwich, and they were both superb. The breakfast sandwich was on homemade bread and toasted to perfection. The bacon, egg, avocado, and pesto combo went perfectly together. It’s a must-order if you’re looking for something on the savory side. The cheese danish was flaky and moist, exactly what I was looking for when I ordered it. I didn’t get the chance to try the cupcakes, but they looked amazing, and were pretty cheap compared to some of the boutique places in and around Chicago.

When you think of Dinkel’s, of course all their yummy baked treats will come to mind… donuts, cakes, cookies, etc etc. but one thing you may not know is that it is also a great spot for a quick weekend breakfast if you don’t feel like a long sit down brekky. They have a number of egg sandwiches on various fresh baked bread and rolls, that are super tasty. Go to the left when you walk in and the sandwich menu is up on the wall. You can sit in their café and enjoy your food, but I’d suggest skipping the coffee from here(not very good brewed coffee) and just grab a Starbucks across the street. If you’re in a donut mood, Dinkel’s has the best old fashioned donut ever!

I was sick on Fat Tuesday and kept seeing everyone’s posts for paczki. I wanted one, I wanted one bad. I had to wait till I returned to work and filled a bag full of pastries. I had everything from a pink frosting with sprinkles donut to cream cheese filled bear claw. When you step foot in the bakery you will want to grab everything and put it in your bag. The employees are helpful and make sure you have everything you are looking for.

My love for Dinkels is oh so strong. I honestly don’t know what I’d do if they were to ever leave the Lincoln strip. Let’s start off with the burgeler. It’s a breakfast pastry that will literally change your life. It starts with this perfectly buttery dough that surrounds warm spinach and sausage in the bottom-similar to a muffin. Then it gets real, and there’s an egg baked on top of the spinach mixture, and the whole«top» part of the muffin is just melted cheddar cheese! The final touch is some crispy bacon sprinkles. At this point you’ll be questioning if this is real life or not, but I am here to attest that it is indeed. Other than the burgeler, everything else at Dinkles always meets or exceeds expectations. They have a lovely selection of pastries, cookies, cakes and muffins for every occasion. They also have a small sandwich counter that whips up some awesome stuff. Their bacon breakfast sandwich… unreal. But it’s not just the food that urges me to write this review, it’s also the ambiance and the customer service. I love the small business feel when you first walk in, Dinkles has been in the same spot forever, and there’s a reason they haven’t left. Every time you walk through the door, there’s a smiling employee greeting you, and offering to help with your decision of what to get. They also have a great list of daily specials which I like to take advantage of. I would be lying if I didn’t admit that«distance to Dinkles bakery» will be a factor when I’m looking for a new apartment this summer.

This is based on two separate experiences I’ve had with Dinkel’s. Most recently, I pre-ordered for Pazcki day — the ordering process was seamless. Write your order, scan, email to the email address, wait for confirmation. BOOM. I walked in the morning of, having been appropriately warned that it will be busy that day… took my number and went to the back of the line. I was glad that I didn’t prepay too, because I ended up wanting to add 2 more pazcki to my original order(you can’t do that when you prepay). However, it was a bit annoying that people didn’t have the foresight to pre-order were placing their order ahead of you, yet you still had to wait behind them. The only line you were able to skip to was if you had prepaid. So, really, unless you plan to prepay as well, the only people that benefit from your planning ahead are the people working there and the people in line behind you. The actual pazcki were tasty, of course. I’m no connoisseur of paczki, so I’m hesitant to be critical of them. However(and maybe this is because I’m 0% Polish), I typically prefer my pastries a bit more moist and doughy than dry and bready. I will say that the cherry filling of the pazcki were real cherries and none of that pie filling shortcut stuff(thumbs WAY up for that). Also, the chocolate pazcki with custard filling blew every other one out of the water. Thick layer of fudge-y chocolate, dense custard filling… omg, I wanted 8. My other experience with Dinkel’s was at the Christkindlemarkt downtown. I wanted to purchase some type of German coffee cake, so I went up and ordered something delicious looking. First surprise: it was about 5 lbs.(Not that much, but compared to what I was expecting it to weigh, it was heavyyy). Second surprise: it was around $ 17. WHAT?! It was my own fault for not asking the price first, but I thought it would be, at most, close to $ 10. Obviously things like that are going to be marked up at events like that, but there is no way I will ever spend almost $ 20 on their coffee cake again. Aside from the chocolate custard pazcki, I’ve never had a huge ringing endorsement in my mind for this place. Although its a Chicago staple, I’d prefer to frequent other spots more.

I first stopped by Dinkel’s a few months ago to pick up cupcakes for a friend. The bakery is huge and filled with so many different kinds of baked goodies. While pondering over the selection, I noticed that they were cutting square slices from a large sheet cake — vanilla cake with white frosting and confetti sprinkles, and left the bakery with a couple slices. My friend loved them — very moist and light and not too sweet. You could tell that they were made from scratch and just out of the oven. It seemed as if everyone loved the chocolate donut so I wanted to see if it lived up to the hype. It was super rich, and the thick layer of chocolate overwhelmed the donut. If I wanted chocolate, I would rather eat a chocolate bar so it didn’t leave a big impression, but I can see why chocolate lovers would enjoy it. Fast forward a few months, I come across a box of gorgeous donuts bearing the Dinkel’s name in my work lunchroom. I tried part of the the glazed, boston crème, and coconut cake donuts, and they were all fantastic! Excellent donuts at a great value compared to some of the newcomers with fancy marketing. P. S. Wednesday is Donut Day, 6 for $ 5.99!

We stopped in on a Sunday morning for breakfast, having heard about the legendary Dinkel’s for quite some time. I had the bakers sunrise sandwich– yum! Great ingredients, perfect for a nice little breakfast sandwich. Next time I would ask for it to. E made on the of their croissants– the bread was a bit too hard for my liking. I also had a jelly donut, one of the best I can remember having. A great amount of filling, covered with the perfect amount of sugar. I would definitely come back n

One word… Paczki… Unbelievably delicious. Most fried dough things give me very bad indigestion. Not these! So fresh! Sorry for the TMI.

I love visiting businesses that have been around for years – Dinkel’s has been around since 1922. I like checking out the the new trendy bakeries too, but something has to be said about these classics too. I found a very clean and cute shop, just full of baked goods for everyone’s tastes. Iced sugar cookies, cakes, cupcakes, doughnuts, patries, coffee cakes, breads, rolls. And there’s a small café next door if you want to make it a full stop and not a grab and go like my visit. I spied cider doughnuts during my initial visit – and it was late fall, way past cider doughnut hours. And they were very very good. Soft, not over dry, nice flavor, you can tell they were freshly made. The iced sugar cookies were ok, I got them mainly for my son and he loved every bite. I got a cupcake to try later and I found it good too – a little on the dry side for my taste but still OK. Service was friendly. It was nice to get super excited over cider doughnuts and not have them laugh at me. Great shop. A true Chicago gem.

I’m going to get married, I’m so excited. Brownie torte and I are going to live a really happy life together, I just know it. Besides those plans, here goes my experience of this delicious bakery. Came in on a Sunday, was very busy, felt bad because it was my first time there so I was being a bit annoying asking«What’s this? And what’s that?» I felt like a little kid, but I always feel like that when I’m surrounded by sugar. Then some lady who apparently didn’t figure out that you have to take a number(I mean come on, it’s right there when you first walk in) was giving one of the workers a hard time, but she handled it very well, so props to her! Now to the goodies. I had 4 chocolate shortbread cookies(I think?), 4 almond crescent cookies, an almond roll, and the man of my dreams, the brownie torte. Cookies were great, especially the chocolate ones. Weren’t dry at all, which I tend to get picky with some bakeries because I feel like I’m eating cardboard and not an actual cookie. The almond roll was pretty good, but it tasted like it was a bit stale. If I picked up a fresh one then I’d probably go crazy. Almond anything is amazing. Last but not least, the holy grail brownie torte. Chocolate everything y’all. It is a dream! Chocolate ganache on the top with chocolate buttercream filling, it is everything your diet shouldn’t be, but it’s so worth it to cheat. All day, errrryyday. Get it, get it!

Walking into Dinkel’s is basically like accidentally walking into Disneyland. There are so many things you want and only so many you can handle before you get sick. Desperately unsure what I wanted, I wound up asking the(very helpful) girl at the counter, who advised I get a chocolate cake doughnut. I did, and grabbed a vanilla coconut one for later. And a sandwich.(Yes! They have«real food» now and will bring it to the table of your choice.) Doughnuts; both were absolutely delicious, although if I could only have one, I would probably stick with the chocolate. Cakey with rich frosting, this is not a diet doughnut. This is a «dear lord I love carbs» doughnut. And it tastes really good and fresh. Sandwich: I got a woolworth with turkey, apples, sun dried tomatoes, cheese and bacon. It was delicious and(a rarity for paninis) cooked all the way through without making the bread too crunchy! Not as I-will-drive-across-the-city-for-this as the doughnuts, but certainly a reliable sandwich spot with ample seating if you’re in the area.

I use to come here 10yrs ago, came here recently and love what they have done to this place. The build out is great and the fact that they made there menu more lunch friendly and not just pastries is excellent!

Love their butter cookies and I’m usually not a cookie person! Their cakes are too rich for my taste but bf goes gaga for them and demands them for every birthday(over my homemade ones, pfff) They just recently started to offer made-to-order sandwiches. It took a while as there was only one person making sandwiches, but it was worth the wait: crusty bread with fresh ingredients. Even the chips were good too!
