This is a place I would normally ignore in downtown Chicago, since there are so many options. However my circumstance lead me to this little corner eatery. I have to say I was plesently surprised with with my Bomber sub sandwich. They have 3 different sizes you can order 4″, 6″ &12″ and everything was fresh and tasty and reasonably priced. They not only sell sandwiches but the sell some sundries as well and they are open 24 hours in an area that needs something like that. Also all the staff are great. Mohammed(the owner) was very sweet and friendly along with José and Arned. Mohammed has shared with me that this establishment have been here many many years and he has owned the store for 12 of them. Anyway this is a small place and most of the customers take to go. There are maybe 8 chairs and 3 tables that you can sit at and eat if you want. This is my new southern loop sandwich shop

Low quality and high prices. That’s all you really need to know. Mr. Sub has better stuff for half the price. Subway is also better. The only reason its not 1 star is because its open 24 hours.

I love going here for lunch to get their turkey and avocado sub sandwich. They do have a couple of tables inside, but they are small and are only good for two people, not three or more. Their smaller subs which are 4 inches are perfect for a light lunch, but pricey, at $ 4.50 with tax.

Food tasted good, but there was hair in it. I brought it to the cook/cashier, who was the only one working and it was obviously his hair. He denied that it was his, then tried to pull it out with his fingers without gloves, touching the meat of the sandwich while doing so. He then tried to return it to me, so I left.

WTF! You don’t get what you pay for or what the menu says. That is my opinion of American Submarine. This wanna be sub shop convenience store in my opinion stays open because of the ploy it uses to get people in the door. The fact that it’s open late night, and nothing else is around is how it stays afloat. It’s right by the Metra to the south suburbs people coming or leaving the city stop in for what they hope will be a good bite to ear. I wouldn’t even recommend this place to people who’ve been out drinking all night. And they have the nerve to have a rewards program. Service sucks! I ordered a turkey bacon sub and got a turkey sub with ham put on as bacon, or what I thought was ham at the time I saw him put it on the sub. I’ve also ordered the Italian beef before. they have a regular and a super beef that’s supposed to be loaded with beef. No need to buy extra meat I though. However, there was less meat on the super beef than when I got a normal beef. When I said something I got attitude and one more strip of meat added to my beef. Not Cool! The prices suck too, for what you get.

Man what is with you Chicagoans and just slamming local stuff on Unilocal? I went in here thinking it was a C-Store and yeah was greeted by Mohamaad. Nice guy. They didn’t have what I needed. Yet when walking by day after day I always saw not a lot, usually 1 – 2 people eating here at the maybe 6 chairs. So I decided to try it. The sandwich was made fresh and the bread was soft and fluffy and lovely. Bad ass bread! Beyond that, this place is called«Americana Submarine». The name is honest and that’s what they sell. Under $ 6 and you have an American style Sub. No drama needed and none to be found here.

This place is disgusting. It is on the absolute strangest block in the whole city. Twilight zone. The food here is no good. The service is no good. I have no idea how ended up here. They do have Belly though, so if you come here often you can get a free dog.

Yep, it’s as sketchy as it gets but hey it’s open 24 hours and the guys working the counter always make me laugh. Go here when you are drunk and you will thank me. Go here when you are sober and you will understand my 3 star review. It’s underneath the L tracks on what has to be one of the darkest and ugliest corners in the Loop but if you need something to combat the alcohol, you could do much worse than this place. Prices aren’t bad and at 3:00 a.m. you have Americana Submarine, 7 – 11, or the 24 hour McDonalds on Adams. Ya, you’ll thank me later…

I’m really, REALLY surprised by the two star rating!!! What are people expecting from a sub mart?!! The sandwiches are big, and delicious, and on amazing soft fresh bread! They’re open 24 hours!!! What’s not to like!!! I love the bacon turkey club, especially when I’m wasted and hungry, and walking to the train from Lollapalooza. I support Americana Submarine!!! I vote yes!

I went here late night. The man behind the counter, Mohammad, was the nicest guy in the world and made me a great sub. Find him, you will get great service and a great sandwich.

This place is terrible! We wanted to try it, because we passed by it a few times on the way to Union Station. The owner is rude! We ordered the BBQ Roast Beef, and they took out a stale bun, and put some BBQ sauce on it, put a few slices of cheese, and when I asked my Husband if it would be toasted the clerk wrapped the sandwich in paper, and stuck it in the microwave!!! My daughter said the Hot Dog she had was not too bad, but she’s eight years old, it probably wasn’t even a Vienna Hot Dog! Save your $ 12.00 and go somewhere else

I was happy with the Chicago hot dog for lunch. Friendly guy at the counter. Great location next to the Board of Trade and Loop station(LaSalle/van Buren)

Ok I’ve tried this place twice now, and it’s really just left me with a gross taste in my mouth. Americana Sub is a mini mart/sub place, which basically means you can spice up your sub combo meal by adding Swisher Sweets and condoms instead of the boring old chips and a drink. The first sandwich I had was the Bomber, which was ham, salami(I think), and some kind of mystery meat, which scared me. Maybe not the best choice, so next time I went back I went with a standard turkey sandwich. I honestly could only put down half of the footlong sub before tossing away the rest. All in all, the service is friendly, the meat is gross, but honestly what should I have expected when walking into this place?

Do you like gas station quality subs in a place that does not sell gas? Then this is the place for you. Chewy bread and mystery meat all stored out in a nice warm environment that is barely clean. What could go wrong? The only thing this place has going for it is that they are open 24 hours(which is how I ended up there). Oh, and they sell condoms.

The subs are average. Prices are a little high. However, it is halal and open 24 hours.

This place was actually pretty good? I had the rueben on rye, and then followed it the following night with the gyro. Decent food for the price! And the guy behind the counter was friendly to an out of towner from the South. And that ain’t easy to find in Chicago…

24⁄7 in the financial district is great when you work in a 24⁄7 area. But that’s where the excitement here ends. The prices aren’t cheap for the quality and the chips they sell really suck. I got a pastrami and it was just ok. I didn’t really get a choice of what I got on it, jalapeño instead of banana peppers didn’t please me. The bread was wheat and worked fine the meat was just ok. I also got a Chicago hot dog and it seemed all wrong. Close, but no cigar and not very good. Just didn’t really enjoy it. But since it’s 24⁄7 and close to work I’m sure I’ll get sick of Subway and eventually make it back.

If I could give this place less than 1 star, I totally would. I’ve literally contemplated calling health inspection on Americana Submarine. The night I moved out of my Columbia College dorm, my fiancée and I decided that we should go to Americana Submarine because we were hungry and there wasn’t much else around. What a mistake. First off, our initial sight is a bunch of meat, bread, condiments(especially mayo) all sitting out, Subway style. The only difference is… Subway usually follows health code. There were flies everywhere and the mayo had this strange hard greenish yellow coating on the top of it because it hadn’t been refrigerated for at least several hours. So we’re waiting in line and there is one guy making everyone’s food. I would usually cut someone like him some slack because that seems like a lot of work for just one person, however, this man was the meanest unhappiest thing I think I’ve ever encountered in my life. At one point, I asked him why we get a can of pop, when the menu shows we get a fountain drink with the meal. He literally said«Just fucking take the drink.» When I replied with«Sir, can’t you just answer my question?» he said«Because we ran out of fucking cups you retard.» Hmm, so we get out sandwiches… mine was a simple turkey with cheese and my fiancée’s was a BBQ Beef which turned out to just be roast beef with barbecue sauce squirted on it — not toasted, but microwaved. We’re eating… and its absolutely disgusting. 14 dollars later, we bring the other halves home and our dog gets into the bag and literally tries to eat both. Good thing we stopped him, first. Wow. I guess this stuff is as good as dog-food.

This place has OK sub sandwiches. As someone said, it’s not quite as good as Mr. Submarine, but they try to be like that. It’s been kind of hit or miss at this place. Sometimes the sandwiches have been great and other times not. Basically, the ingredients aren’t as fresh. One time I went there and they didn’t have lettuce. I’m like… how do you run a sub shop and run out of lettuce? Some of the other stories and flies and moldy bread are scary. Ooh… hope I never experience that. One reason to give it an extra star that I did is that it’s open 24 hours. So when there’s nowhere else to go, Americana it is.
