It was solid Japanese food, I got basil chicken which was good. It is nothing to write home about a little above average.

My 4 stars is more about the half priced sushi than the quality of the food or the atmosphere. On Tuesdays, the normally $ 6 – 12 sushi rolls are half off so you can get a whole lot of food for just $ 6. The rolls themselves are not bad. I’m sure you could find much better sushi elsewhere, but definitely not for the same price. The atmosphere is that of a really lame club. The lights, decorations, and music are something you would find in Mint, but the clientele are usually just going for some cheap sushi. It’s a pretty great place if you just want lots of sushi for a great price. Check out their other deals throughout the week too!

Disappointed! the food was very cold, overpriced and the fried rice was horrible. Service was weak and there was no hint of Japanese cuisine anywhere in the place.

I don’t like writing negative reviews, but my service tonight(and the service at the adjacent tables tonight) was absolutely terrible. Our orders were wrong, the wait was exceedingly long and the checks were wrong. I would have refrained from writing this, but when the manager(George) banned three women next to us because they had to wait almost hours for their food and complained, I felt I had to say something. When the manager tells you they’re the only show in town since their competitor closed and don’t seem to care about customer service, you need to be warned. This restaurant has gone downhill fast.

Terrible service! Took over an hour after we ordered to get food on a night that was not busy. Orders were wrong and appetizers were delivered 20 min after sushi. Manager George was rude to customers. Told them«the owner doesn’t come to talk to people like you». Checks were wrong. Charged for two drinks not ordered. Check problem was resolved after discussion. Never coming back!!!

Nice restaurant! Went there for a quick lunch/snack before going on a tour. Sushi rolls were good and had all the standards and was very fresh. Only negative critique is they didn’t have much sauces on them(i.e. eel sauce, spicy mayo, wasabi mayo, etc.) so we asked for sides of them. They gladly brought them out, however, all were a little bland so I guess it is good they didn’t put them on the rolls. Will go back, but will also check out other sushi in the area.

So, on a not crowded Sunday, we got a waiter who consistently forgot something: sushi roll, soda, salad, soup, side of rice. Which makes no sense because he wrote it all down. Let’s face it people– the sushi was good– nothing special, but the chicken is NOT real chicken. It was a rubbery weird meat that tasted microwaved. I’m not a picky eater and I couldn’t stomach it. Strangely, my dog wouldn’t go near it either and that guy eats hair balls…

We went here for half price sushi night with some friends. We’ve never been here before, so we had no idea what to expect. Here’s the breakdown: Pros: Half price sushi, which was decent in quality. Not too crowded The waiter was friendly when we finally got him to come over. Cons: Our waiter«didn’t notice us» because we were in the corner… Some of the glasses on the table had odd things in them(debris? food? who knows!). They replaced it… with another dirty glass. We gave up. The beef tataki was told to me as being«super rare, just so you know»…it came out about medium(way too cooked for what it is). Also, the portion is ridiculously small compared to other local restaurants(and it cost $ 3 more). The music was BLARING and super bassy — I get that it’s happy hour, but you are a restaurant, not a club. I might give this place another shot but there are way better options for half price sushi in Charleston(I’m looking at you, Locals!).

You go hear because it is not full of tourists. For a place so close to the central tourist area, there sure are a lot of local, F and B people at this place. That can only mean that these locals know their stuff. I go there all the time because it is simply the best sushi in downtown peninsula. I have tried all the sushi places downtown, these guys know their stuff here. As well, they recently started having salmon toro(high fat belly). It is so melt in your mouth pure awesomeness!

This is my to go sushi place for years! They have wonderful specials on food and drinks. My favorite rolls are the yum yum and salmon fashion. I haven’t tried a roll I didn’t like. The hibachi is nice as well. It’s only $ 10 on Thursdays. I typically received good service and the atmosphere is pretty relaxed. It is near Market Street so a good starting place for a night out. Warning: Sushi service is slow on 50% off nights more so Tuesday than Thursday. Get a drink/app and be patient.

In terms of finding great sushi in Charleston, many other places are far better than Wasabi in my opinion. While the ½ off all sushi and $ 10 Hibachi on Tuesday nights is a great deal, the quality of food is mediocre and the service has always been very slow during my experiences. With normal rolls around $ 6 each and specialty rolls around $ 10 – 12, on Tuesdays you can walk out of Wasabi paying less than $ 10 for two rolls, making it pretty hard to complain. If you looking for a quick-fix sushi craving, then Wasabi on a Tuesday is a good bet, however if you are looking for great quality sushi, I recommend Oku or Kanpaii in Mount Pleasant. Its also worth mentioning that if you are trying to find a spot to dine downtown in a large group for a birthday or event of some kind, Wasabi is also a good option, as there is very seldom a wait and plenty of large tables available.

Half price sushi is totally worth 4 stars alone. Cool spot that feels a little upscale while still being casual. Sushi is great and service is always on point. Tuesday is half price sushi, did I mention that?

Wasabi is like a quick sushi-crave-fix for me. Especially on Tuesdays and Thursday when the rolls are half off and drinks on special. I like Scam roll and… That’s it. I actually tried most of the menu, but I’m sold on Scam. $ 4.50 roll makes it delicious I believe. The place is nice and has nice atmosphere. Wasabi can be ideal college hang-out place or a casual married couple go-out option(as it is in my case). Don’t expect much and you won’t be disappointed.

We took my 19 year old cousin here for her bachelorette dinner. We came on a Thursday and, lucky for us, they were having a killer happy hour. The specials included selected half priced sushi rolls, $ 10 Hibachi(your choice of meat — Steak or Chicken), ½ priced Hot Sake(your choice of flavor — Apple or Blueberry), $ 2 beers. Our server, Amber, was adorable and very attentive. We came around 8:30pm and the place was pretty cleared out Amber informed us that we had just missed the rush. This was great for us we were all pretty hungry. To start we ordered the Chicken Lettuce Wraps and some Sake for the appropriately aged ladies in our group. The lettuce wraps were very tasty but sake was a little much and kind of tasted like warm Kool-Aid(if Kool-Aid had a bite that is). A couple girls ordered hibachi and the rest of us split several sushi rolls. I tried both and all of it was excellent. I am usually a big fan of Ponzu sauce but I didn’t really like it here so I used the low sodium soy sauce. I will note that, while many of the rolls we ordered were advertised as spicy, none of them really had any fire(at least not to me). All of them were delicious. We ordered the banana tempura for dessert and I thought it fell a little flat. The ice cream that it came with, not the fried banana, was the star on this plate as far as I was concerned. Because of the mixed company, we did not spend any time at the bar but I could tell that, when busy, this place was probably a pretty fun hangout. I am looking forward to coming again the next time we visit family in Charleston.

I want to begin by saying my rating may be for very different reasons than the traditional ones, you know food quality and taste. I will get to that. Be patient. Don’t be jumping the gun to the bottom of the page. I know all your foodie spoilers want to just read the last few lines. Well you can’t. Really, you are doing it out of spite. Ok. I hope you can live with yourself in the morning. First, mosaic tiles in the bathroom. So rarely do we discuss the restrooms. They deserve credit. If you have a bad meal, you could spent a lot of time in one or if you drink to much and break the seal, it becomes like a second home. Wasabi(Men’s room) has some cool brown mosaic tiles on the walls. I like it. And foam soap. Big fan of foam soap. Second, incredible marketing. Aside from Friday and Saturday, there is a food and/or drink special every night of the week. They can always draw a crowd because they yield to the sushi /hibachi fans and the cost savings diners. Well done. And they are consistent week after week. You don’t have to guess what their specials are when you get there. Third, low sodium soy sauce on the tables. Kudos! Fourth, the service is always consistently strong. Professional, efficient and fun. Finally, the sushi is good quality fish and the tempura and seaweed salad are worth enjoying. Make sure Wasabi makes it to your list when you have a sushi fix.

The best time to visit Wasabi for sushi is on Tuesdays for Half Price Roll night. You get the most bang for you buck and can order multiple specialty rolls without breaking the bank. Subarshi roll is delcious. Spicy shrimp topped with seared tuna, ginger dressing, and raw onions. Yum. The servers are always very friendly, but not attentive. The past two times we have visited we have sat at our table for quite a while before being greeted and waited too long when requesting something.(straw, low sodium soy, pretty basic stuff) The bar area is nice. A much needed imnprovement from the bar area years ago. The back rooms are perfect for large groups. Back in the day Wasabi use to be the hot spot for drinks and dancing. Not sure what the nightlife is like these days.

After our less than stellar experience at Tsunami, we were hoping that this place would help us forget what we had experienced our first night in Charleston. And that it did! We decided to have lunch here on our last day in Charleston and since our Culinary tour guide had recommended it, we were staying positive. The place is very nice and decorated very trendy with beige leather seating and booths. They had some very affordable lunch menus but none of the rolls caught my eye. I ended up ordering off the actual specialty roll menu. It ended up being $ 22 for 2 orders of rolls but for the quality and amount, it was completely worth it. I went the the Carolina and Rainbow rolls. Both delicious and very, very filling. You can easily share unless you are very hungry. Our server was good. Checked on us regularly and even took the obligatory last day in Charleston photo of us. Bookmark this place if you want good sushi in Charleston! You’ve been warned!

Right off the bat I am inclined to say that I don’t think this place deserves the 2.5 star average rating it has now. Unfortunately, I don’t think I can give it more than three stars though! First of all, their sushi is consistently good. I have eaten at Wasabi at least 5 – 6 times and never once have I left dissatisfied. That being said, I ALWAYS go on half price Tuesdays. Their normal menu prices are just too high — around $ 6 for a regular roll and $ 10-$ 12 for a specialty roll. They aren’t huge or anything too special to justify such a high price point; especially the regular rolls which are heavy on the rice and only 6 pieces. So, if you are looking for a good meal of sushi, although I do recommend Wasabi, make sure you go on a Tuesday and I am pretty sure you will leave happy!
