Don’t know how the food is… we arrived at 8:00 on Sunday morning, right at the posted time to open, and the staff was just getting started with the sweeping, and outdoor table washing. We were«greeted» with«we’re not open yet… might be 20 – 30 minutes…(tropical storm) Bonnie screwed us up». We’re from out of town, but what we experienced of Bonnie was hardly a show-stopper; certainly not enough to slow an opening. They didn’t even have coffee started! We decided to wait, but when more customers showed up at 8:15, and they were told the same thing we’d been told 15 minutes earlier, we packed it in! We were looking forward to trying it, but their customer relations skills are pretty terrible! In response to Kris H.‘s response to my review… the date of our visit was May 29th — Sunday morning, while Tropical Storm Bonnie was weaving her way out. A light rain was falling as we arrived, and when they told us they’d be late opening(as I stated above) we asked if we could wait inside, at the big long table. No coffee was offered, and the table wasn’t cleaned off for us. My review stands!

I had lunch there for the first time today. Great place. I highly recommend this spot. I am shooting for breakfast next time.

I am sad to report that this was possibly the worst meal that I have had on my lunch break in Charleston. I ordered the pork bbq tacos. The restaurant only had about 12 people total at tables. After waiting for 25 minutes for two tacos, I was finally able to retreat to my office. I was looking forward to an enjoyable lunch of some tacos with wonderful bbq pork. What I received was dry, crunchy, and hard. The only thing that gave the tacos any moisture was the cole slaw on top of the«meat». The BBQ tasted as if it had been scrapped of the bottom of a baking pan. The only saving grace to this meal was the in house cut potato chips that were seasoned with the appropriate amount of salt. The other food that was coming out of the kitchen looked good. Perhaps I was given subpar food be used it was«to-go». I’m sorry to say that Dixie lost a customer on this transaction.

We were excited to try this place based on the great reviews. Arrived early & waited outside in the pouring rain. A half-awake employee eventually opened the door to bring tables outside and drearily said they were running late… Blaming to on the rain. There was no offer to come in & grab a seat + coffee while they set up. So we left. Zero customer service = Zero business

The reviews are misleading, this place is nothing fantastic. It’s an ok place for breakfast.

Ok stop. The tomato pie was tasty as was the chicken and waffles. The pie was a small piece. Chicken and waffles was decent. 19 $ so not cheap. Especially for the pie. It would not be a filling lunch. The wait gets a star removed. 45 min. And the ceiling leaks on the only big table there.

Very unique menu– appeared a little divey and was skeptical initially, but food was delicious! They also had a full breakfast menu at the front. Well worth it for breakfast!!!

Was looking for a traditional breakfast and Dixie hit the spot. We got right in, no wait at a late breakfast around 9:30am. If the weather is not nice I could see the seating being an issue only a few tables inside. We set outside and it was very nice.

Went here based on Reviews and proximity to hotel. WOW!!! This is a small café next to connivence store and was the best biscuits and gravy I’ve had. We even went to Hominy the next day for the big nasty to compare and really wasn’t one. Dixie wins hands down! I had egg scrambled rather than over medium as it usually comes. My wife had the chicken and waffles and loved it. Will definitely be back.

We parked near the Market and asked the people who drove the rickshaws where to get breakfast, figuring they would know. Boy, were they ever right. I was hesitant at first, since I wasn’t looking for what I think of as ‘bakery goods’ for breakfast. We’d opted to skip that at our hotel — all carbs. Seeing the menu and special boards we were pleasantly surprised. Eggs and grits and bacon and all the usual breakfast items. I ordered an omelette made with shrimp, caramelized onions and brie, with a side of grits and a biscuit. Fantastic! My wife had a more traditional 2 eggs OE with bacon biscuit and grits. All was great. The grits were so good I put a little butter on them and never got around to the salt and pepper! «Ask a local» is wonderful advice when it comes to finding the best places to eat. It sure paid off here!

Stopped here for a late lunch based on a recommendation. The place is a tiny café, so even on an off hour, there was a line and barely enough tables. I sat at a window bar while my husband waited in line to order at the counter. The table needed to be cleared and they let me sit there without clearing it for the length of the entire line plus some. Then when they cleared it, they left a cup that we had to throw away ourselves. The food was good. I got chicken and waffles and it came with peach chutney. I was a fan of the chutney but the chicken and waffles were very good. My husband got chicken and biscuits and cleaned the plate. We also had a cobblestone bar with Oreo and coconut and it was good. Overall, it’s a good place if you’re nearby but not sure if I would go out of my way to try it.

Cool little place, it’s a small little bakery. I got the chicken and waffles with peach chutney which was yummy. My boyfriend got some kind of biscuit and gravy thing and their gravy is delicious. I recommend this place it’s yummy and feels cozy and family oriented.

One of my favorite«must visit» places to go when I visit Charleston! You will find them close to the Charleston Market, on a side street. The place looks nothing like a restaurant, and is super-easy to miss, being located in a dumpy lot with a convenience store. It appears to be very unassuming & plain, seating and parking are limited, and you won’t find a bathroom on the premises. In spite of these factor however, I still give 5 stars due to the simple but creative, top notch delicious food, and friendly, down home service. They have some of the best, lightest, fluffiest pancakes ever! When you order your pancakes, you’ll have to snag the syrup bottle from the order counter to dress your pancakes, and then replace the bottle for the next hungry guest.(There is only one bottle available.) They often feature specials such as Carrot Cake Pancakes, Walnut Pancakes, Walnut-White Chocolate Chip pancakes, etc. Other delicacies include lobster omelette, Omelette with Duck Confit, and tomato pie. The bacon is some of the most flavorful that I’ve had, and couldn’t be cooked more perfectly crisp. Walk up to the counter and order from the daily chalkboard specials menu, or order from the standard menu. They also have a few dessert items in the bakery case-we tried the Jumbo Chocolate Chip cookie, which was chewy, moist, and delicious. The grits are also a huge winner, as are the eggs and biscuits. You’ll need to give one of the friendly cook/kitchen staff your dishes once you finish eating, as they do not have anyone assigned to bus tables. I’m 100% a fan, and make it a point to visit Dixie Supply every time that I visit Charleston!

We stopped at Dixie Supply for a quick and cheap breakfast before starting out day. Dixie Supply is a total dive with the Guy Fieri stamp of approval. It has some seating outside in the parking lot as well as table inside. I had Lilly’s stuffed croissant French toast with peaches plus coffee and my boyfriend got the pancakes. The stuffed French toast was really just a smashed down croissant sliced in half with a big glob of cold cream cheese in between the slices. The pancakes were pretty bland and the coffee wasn’t great. Maybe I put too much stock in all of the positive Unilocal reviews, but I was disappointed.

A happy little hole in the wall that knows how to make good, real food. Unpretentious and friendly with biscuits to knock your socks off! I will highly and confidently recommend this gem to anyone who is looking to do breakfast in Charleston. My husband ordered the homemade sausage gravy biscuit and I had the local shrimp, caramelized onion and Brie omelet — we both are leaving this place thrilled and determined to come back on our next visit to this lovely city.

Disorganized and slow ordering process and tight seating inside, but totally worth the«hassle» for a hearty breakfast, awesome tomato pie and Southern specialties for lunch like shrimp and grits. The menu changes frequently anchored by some regular favorites, so you can either get your comfort food or try something new depending on what’s on that day. A go to location for breakfast every trip we make to Charleston, and we’ll often make a parting stop for the road before we head home.

This would be a great place to hit at the end of a night of drinking I suppose… greasy, substantial. I tried the State Street Buscuit because that’s supposedly what all the hype is about. It’s not bad, I would say certainly better than what you could get at Waffle House, but I think 4 – 5 stars is a bit extreme, at least in my opinion. The buscuit part was good, everything is covered in a pretty heavy gravy though, so you don’t taste much else. I probably should’ve just picked something else, most people probably want a lot of gravy… so if that’s you… get it! The hubs got the chicken and waffle sandwich. I tried that too of course. The chicken was pretty good! The waffles were good. I wasn’t a fan of the peaches they put with it, I’m pretty sure they’re out of a can, which just brings back memories of those awful elementary school meals where canned peaches and square pizza was a meal… know what I mean? Leave those out and it’s a solid meal for a relatively cheap price in Charleston.

I had been wanting to try Dixie Supply for a while now, so we finally got an opportunity one Saturday morning as we were up early and found ourselves down town. As many have stated, parking for this little hole in the wall can be tough. But with a little persistence and turning down side streets, you can find somewhere to park. Trust me, it’s well worth the extra effort to eat here. Sure, Dixie gets is claim to fame because Guy Fieri made a visit on his Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives show from Food Network; and for good reason. The food here is spectacular. Their house specialty is the State Street Biscuit. It deserves every bit of 5 stars on it’s on. It’s a fried chicken breast on top of one of their house made biscuits, then covered in their homemade sausage gravy. Topped with a fried egg, and the dish takes breakfast to another level. I don’t know what they put in the sausage gravy, but I swear it’s got me addicted. Laura ordered the tomato pie. A little out of the box for breakfast but I’m glad she did. It’s like they combined a cheese pizza with a creamy quiche to make this dish. Oh WOW! Was it delicious! They serve it with a slice of spice cake which is a very nice touch to breakfast. I like this place so much, I’m making it the best breakfast I’ve had since we moved to Charleston. Other Unilocalers have also raved about the bourbon pecan pie, so I can’t wait to sink my teeth in to some of that. I’m looking forward to trying their lunch menu as well. But for now, that State Street biscuit will keep me coming back.

I was walking by looking for something to eat(to go) as I was on my way to the Waterfront Park. I grabbed the bacon egg and cheese biscuit and am so glad that I did. Biscuit was homemade and the egg was big and fluffy. Cheese was melting all over the place, but not in any bad places, which made it a good melt of cheese. As I was waiting, the family next to me ordered the chicken and waffle dish, and if I had more time to spare, I probably would’ve ordered that too. It looked amazing. This isn’t one of those places that you will find right out in the open on East Bay or King St. This is a hole in the wall dive, but the food is great and the people who own /work there are friendly, which makes it a little piece of heaven. I’ll be back again soon.

Awesome spot with excellent Fried Green Tomato BLT. It was huge & delicious with pimento loaded with Bacon. We sat inside & watched the crowds of people constantly pour in. A pretty cool little dive with great food. Then I finished with Bacon Bourbon Pecan Pie… OMG This is THE best pie I’ve ever eaten. All in all I think I just consumed 2000 calories
