Mahi Mahi tacos and fish sandwich are out of control. Super friendly staff. Even offered to bring my food to the bar next door where I was watching the basketball game. Next time I’m in WV I will be back!

I don’t understand all the hype? We went in on a Friday night and there were no other customers. On a Friday night with 4.5 stars on Unilocal? No one even seated at the bar. We ordered anyway, the food was OK but not good enough for me to return…

I was a really big fan of Tricky when it first opened but I feel like they might be falling off as far as staff goes. The Tricky punch is an amazing mixed drink they serve and I prefer their crab cakes over everything and to top it off their hush puppies are unrivaled. Their atmosphere is great, I would give a solid 5 stars but I feel like their staff is new and a little misguided some what. But overall this is a must stop spout especially in the summer when their patio is open.

Very cool atmosphere. All of the tacos are fantastic and at a reasonable price. Always a great choice for lunch or dinner. The Cajun shrimp taco is amazing if you’re wondering.

In WV for work. Asked for a restaurant recommendation and was directed to the Tricky Fish. Great food, casual vibe, fun music! Had the mahi tacos and wasn’t disappointed

Not my favorite in terms of food and especially service. I feel like they need to up their game.

Was the first one in the door on a Wednesday in early September. The place filled up pretty fast. I had the blackened mahi-mahi fish tacos with Cajun seasoning(their signature dish) with red beans and rice… Spicy and tasty. This place is totally no-frills, rated as a local favorite, and way way way down to earth. But the food is really good and worth bypassing the local fast food joints. Definitely recommended.

Very good food! I had a grilled mahi mahi and a fried catfish taco with red beans and rice. I liked the catfish better but both were really good. I’m glad we stopped. Only thing we didn’t like we’re the flies bugging us on the patio and inside the restaurant.

What a fabulous restaurant! The big burritos were fantastic: I had the mahi mahi one and my husband had the chicken one. These were both the best burritos we have ever eaten. We also got the hush puppies with margarine and honey. The best ever!!! I also had a cucumber and watermelon margarita. That was such a refreshing drink. The server Karah was so wonderful! She brought my little dog a bowl of water. I never even asked! What a thoughtful person to think of that. Karah also took the time to explain the menu and add interesting information. We were so happy to have come to this restaurant! An absolute must to come here!

I ate dinner here early and there was no crowd. You order at the counter and they bring you the food. Simple. Mahi mahi was delicious with black beans and rice. Real food simply prepared. Didn’t try the hot dog offerings. I guess of you go for the tofu it would be healthy, but what a choice– hot dog or tofu!

Been here several times and this place is hit or miss for me. Love the atmosphere and outdoor patio, and the seafood(mahi-mahi, catfish, or shrimp) tacos are usually tasty but my last pair had stale tortillas. Also, the side salad was just sad. Should have gone with their addictive homemade kettle chips!

Fantastic food, good service, quick in and out bite! I was traveling from North Carolina to Illinois and found Charleston to be a good lunch stop. Stopped into Tricky fish as it wasn’t far from the highway. You walk in and order at the counter and take a seat. Food is brought out to you on the patio or inside. I went with the Mahi Mahi taco blackened and a pulled pork taco per the workers suggestion. The Mahi was juicy and delicious with the perfect balance of dressing and lettuce. The pulled pork was delicious and portions will not leave you hungry here. I consider myself a large portion guy and was full after 2 tacos and the rice and beans side. 5he only downfall is difficulty parking as there are only 4 or 5 spots behind the restaurant. We were lucky to snag one.

Always love this place, the friendly people and service and the classically good food. Had the veggie dog, Mahi Mahi burrito and hush puppies, no complaints! The hush puppies were really tasty and it was nice to chase with a Greenbrier Brewing Co Pale Ale. It’s also nice to eat outside and we werent rushed.

My kids love eating on the deck. Chicken fingers are really good and the burgers are hard to beat. Burritos are good but the rice and beans just dont do it for me

Love the Tricky! I often crave fish tacos, hence my attraction to this place. We’re all aware of the negative stereotypes of WV and bad seafood but the Mahi Mahi taco here is among the best I’ve eaten anywhere! In fact, I haven’t had a meal here that wasn’t top notch… love the emphasis on locally sourced food. There’s just nothing like grabbing a bucket of beer and enjoying food with friends out on the deck… A+

This is probably my most visited place in town. I can’t say anything bad about it, they’ve never let me down. Recently I was diagnosed with Celiac and going out to eat has been a really frustrating experience but Tricky Fish has been super accommodating. They have a few ciders and at least one gluten free beer(OMission) that I really like. The tricky wings are the best wings in town, hands down. I get my tacos grilled and on corn tortillas. The nachos, house chips, rice and beans are all safe too!

Nice place! I liked the outdoor seating. I didn’t know what to get, so I asked her for the one thing that I should eat here. She suggested done sort of combo fish tacos, it was awesome! She was very nice and friendly as well. The only reason I took 1 star away is because I asked for double meat, and I got charged double tacos!

Really good tacos and fried goodies. Above average beer. West by-God Virginia hot dogs. Too damn bad the fried bologna sandwich is off the menu, though.

One of my favoritest places in Charleston. Came up from Tampa for a wedding and made a specific trip just to have the fish tacos and hush puppies. Truly heaven! Tastes just as good as it did last time(8 – 9 months ago) Check out this place, you won’t regret it!

You can’t go wrong if you order something fried! Being from Florida along the Gulf, I am picky about my fish. Did that stop me from ordering the grilled mahi mahi tacos? No. Should that have? Yes. However, my ever so smart fiancé ordered a fried chicken sandwich with waffle fries. I would have walked out of here disenchanted if I didn’t try his meal. The bad: my mahi mahi was tough and didn’t really have much of a taste. My future mother in law later remarked to me that any fish in West Virginia would have been frozen at some point. The tacos were not terrible, but not up to Floridian expectations. I also wasn’t a fan of the rice and beans. The good: first of all I love the atmosphere. It really does remind me of being on the beach. It is very laid back. You order at the counter and then they bring you your food. I absolutely loved the waffle fries. I’m still craving them. They were fried to a crisp, not soggy at all! I also loved the fried chicken in the sandwich. Honestly it reminded me of Korean Fried Chicken(which is a little weird). Basically I believe they fry the sh** out of their meat so it gets that nice bronzed coating. If I’m ever craving fried food I would come back to this place for sure.
