Very cute, authentically eccentric little café. Service was a bit slow, but we got a seat right away and the food was excellent. I highly recommend the home cured, grass-fed corned beef hash stack.

Excellent food, drinks, and service. My wife, daughter, and I were passing through Charleston and went to Bluegrass on a recommendation from the hotel staff. We all had very different entrees, from fish and chips to the pork chop, and all were very well prepared. The Black Saison beer from Greenbrier Valley was amazing. We will definitely stop back in when traveling through Charleston.

The Asparagus and Blue is the tastiest twist on a grilled cheese sandwich that I’ve ever experienced. That alone makes this place worth the recommendation. Artsy, eclectic décor, yummy food, open hearted attentive staff.

Came in for a late lunch. Had great service at the bar. I only ordered a BLT, so I feel like I can’t give the place more than 3 stars. I did get the Blueberry Buttermilk PIe, that was delicious, not as creamy as my own, but still great. I paid an upcharge to get a side salad with the Balsamic dressing, it was rich and creamy just like I like it. Hope to be back again.

Great little restaurant in Charleston. They seem to locally source most, if not all, of their ingredients and you can taste it! You might walk right past this place if you weren’t searching for it, however, it’s well worth a visit if you’re in the area. Only downside I noticed was the somewhat dated and mismatched dining tables and chairs. Otherwise it would have been a 5⁄5.

Attention OUTOFTOWNERS and Passers-by! Do yourself a favor and check this place out! Right off the interstate with free parking around back. Local food, fresh ingredients, solid staff, and NON-CHAIN. Plus you get to drive by our beautiful Capitol. Normally has special items but everything is good. Can’t go wrong with any item IMO.

Food was fantastic! I took four young children for brunch after driving five straight hours on our way home to Chicago. Any meal that can appeal to children after a drive like that deserves five stars. The waitress was accommodating to make sure my kids found something they wanted to eat. All the food was freshly prepared and we really liked the local items on the menu. The atmosphere was comfortable and there was a solid crowd the entire time. I would definitely recommend this to everyone and we will be back.

Nice beer selection, solid service, and exceptional food. Trout and grits, meatloaf, and lamb are all good. Burrito is average. I can’t get enough of the buttermilk pie and Erica– they are the best. Live music on Tuesday nights is a treat. My favorite place in Charleston.

This is my place. Bar none. I don’t think anyone’s surprised by this. Excellent food, amazing cocktails and I always see people I want to talk to. A true gem in the East End.

A fancier, pretentious version of Cracker Barrel. I visited during the middle of the week when I thought it wouldn’t be very busy. Wrong. There was a 25 – 30 minute wait. After 35 – 40 minutes I finally get a table and look over the menu. $ 30 for a ribeye steak — not filet mignon, ribeye, $ 22 for fried chicken, $ 18 for trout and grits. Guess no one told the owners they’re in Charleston, WV and not NYC. I settle on a semi-affordable vegetarian option and wait. and wait. and wait. Our server, Elaine, checked in with us twice saying both times ‘your food is out next.’ It never came. The couple beside of me, who was seated at the exact same time as I was, received their food in under 30 minutes. Finally, after 50 minutes had passed since I ordered, I apologized to my date and asked if she would like to go elsewhere. Overall a horrible experience, I will not be back here ever again. Also, I find it rather amusing that a restaurant like this, in the ghetto of Charleston, is charging $ 22 for fried chicken.

Passing through Charleston and wanted to stop to eat at a tasty place. Bluegrass Kitchen was the eatery of my dreams! The food was superb and the service was excellent!!! I had the meatloaf sandwich and it was comfort food between two slices of bread. Then there was dessert!!! The blueberry buttermilk pie was out of this world. It knocked my socks off. Totally bomb. I highly recommend Bluegrass Kitchen to anyone and everyone and all of their unborn children

Passing through Charleston and found this place on Unilocal. So great! Recommend! Impressive beer selection. My husband had short rib philly that was delicious. Side salad to go with it. Homemade dressings. I had pizza. It was ok. Would try a sandwich the next time. Peanut butter pie with Oreo crust and vanilla bean whip cream. Best I’ve ever had!

The place is quaint has a cool Shabby Chic look to it. I only got the spring salad but it was pretty good. The staff was really nice, friendly and accommodating.

I am from the Charleston area, but moved to San Francisco about a year ago. My boyfriend and I recently visited Charleston and I wanted to show him all of our cool, unique spots. He had never visited West Virginia and I was really hoping to show him a little down home, southern hospitality :) Bluegrass Kitchen definitely has a unique feel and I have always liked it for that reason. The food is also pretty good, but not amazing. It is known around Charleston to be one of the cooler spots. Unfortunately, I think management has started taking advantage of this reputation. After spending the last year in one of our nation’s most expensive cities, I was looking forward to coming home to some good food at a reasonable price… and maybe bragging about how WV folks do it right :) But I can honestly say that the prices at this restaurant do not reflect the service or the food quality. Bottom line, it’s just way too expensive. We both got the Perfect Chicken(which is one of the cheaper items on the menu) and I had a glass of house wine and he ordered a beer and our bill was just under $ 50. Now, the Perfect Chicken is a good sandwich… but I can not justify a lunch type meal amounting to $ 50. I also believe that the prices have increased since I was last here, because I do not remember being so disappointed with the value. Another thing that I’ve noticed is that the restaurant tends to be out of certain items almost every time I have been there. This particular thing doesn’t bother me a whole lot as long as the server is aware of which items they’re out of before we place our order, which she was in this case. I also noticed that the restaurant was very dead for a Saturday night, and I can’t help but wonder if that is because the prices had been increased. Also, towards the end of our meal, we felt as though we were kind of being rushed out the door. They started loudly cleaning the tables around us and we eventually felt so uncomfortable that we decided to move to the bar to finish our drinks. It wasn’t even ten o’clock yet, but maybe the staff was hoping to close early since business was slow. All in all, I was disappointed. I thought BGK prided itself on its southern atmosphere and dishes. While I understand it is a unique restaurant, there should still be options on the menu for those who would like a good, substantial meal without breaking the bank. I believe management should consider what these prices could do to business and also consider the fact that they have established a neat, well-known restaurant in a small community. It shouldn’t have big city prices.

I stopped here for dinner on my way from Raleigh to Cincinnati and had a good meal. I ordered the Italian Philly sandwich, which was quite good — I really enjoyed the smoked gouda cream. The sandwich is quite messy though, so eventually I resorted to eating it with a fork. The fries are just okay. I might come back if I was in the area, but wouldn’t go out of my way for it.

When it come to good quality food in Charleston Bluegrass Kitchen has to be #1. Locally sourced food, great flavors, and a menu that will leave you debating on what to get with the many great options to choose from. I ended up getting the short rib which was a hefty plate, I was unable to finish it all but had a hard time not wanting to eating more. The vibe of Bluegrass is unique and their staff fit the mold as well. There is a server there by the name of Will who is the man, Great guy! Great service and great recommendations. He knows his menu and will make sure you get exactly what you are looking for. I would highly recommend this place and I would highly recommend asking for Will’s section.

I was so excited to come for brunch here. West Virginia made some shit law about not being able to get my drank on until 1p. Nevertheless, I came. I ordered a Bloody Mary. I got half the size of Bloody Mary without ice. No garnish. I asked for a garnish and the waitress brought me a small lime on a stick after I had offered to pay for a garnish in the form of olives and such. This was infuriating. Nevertheless, the Bloody Mary was actually pretty good. The service is shit. I mean for gods sake give me a goddamn olive, I offered To pay for it. They decided to bring me my food and the picture is what I got for fries. The leftovers from other plates, or at least that’s what they looked like. I’m sure the waitress was in the back spitting on my food after I asked to buy a garnish and she brought me a lime wedge on a stick. I’m really disappointed, as I usually get great service and food here. It’s safe to say I more than likely will not be a patron here anymore. That was abysmal, especially since I was so excited and brought my friends here. I was so embarrassed. Never again.
