Great hotel if you’re looking for a cheaper alternative to staying directly downtown in Charleston. They state that they are in downtown Charleston, however it’s a 2 mile walk to the popular downtown sites. They do offer a free trolley that operates from 8:30am to 8:30pm daily however we discovered that a 2 mile trip took us 2 hours. I would have rather paid the $ 6 it would have cost to take a taxi since we were headed to dinner and were starving! The hotel is clean, modern and the staff are very accomodating. The free breakfast is probably the best I’ve seen. They offered pancakes, made to order, bacon, biscuits and gravy, eggs, cereal, breads, bagels, fruit, and juices. They had coffee and tea available 24 hrs a day along with fresh fruit. Rooms were a really good size and the bathrooms were modern and clean. The room had a fridge, microwave and coffee maker. I would definitely stay here again.

Great location and the rooms are pretty spacious for the price. If you are expecting 5 star then you will have to go elsewhere. Perfect price and location.

We had a room with two double beds and it was roomy enough. There was a mini balcony, not really sure what to call it. It had a sliding glass door with a tiny ledge that was fenced, kinda weird though. TV needed to be updated; the sound was messed up. Not a bad place for a one night stay. There’s a restaurant on the premises that’s opened for dinner and houses the continental breakfast in the mornings.

All this hotel was not enjoyable to stay at. Rooms are old. Hotel allows for dogs so be prepared for the barking type to arrive and the hotel management unable to do anything about it.

The rooms are tiny so do expect to be able to do any yoga during your stay, if that’s your thing, and the workout room is incredibly cramped and dated. As far as the buidling itself, I wasn’t impressed. The furnishings were good and the bed comfy, but the tight confines and low ceiling made it such that you wouldn’t want to spend a ton of time inside the hotel. Then again, your in Charleston, so you shouldn’t be spending that much time in your hotel anyhow. With that said, the location to price ratio was perfect. This hotel isn’t truly downtown; it’s more on the outskirts of the downtown area, making it easily bikeable. If you are so inclined, a free bus service runs every 30 minutes until 830pm, and a cab is only going to run you about $ 6. If you aren’t drinking and ff you are adept at parallel parking, you can usually find space downtown. Charlestonians are terrible at parallel parking, so most seem to hide in garages, which are also plentiful and inexpensive. Most importantly however is that this hotel is about half the price of staying in downtown proper.

My friend and I were on a road trip and booking every hotel on the fly, depending on where we needed to spend the night. So we depended on the unpublished hotel rate feature from Expedia to hook us sistas up. I was a little disappointed with the location, as in even though it’s considered downtown Charleston, it is really more on the outskirts of the downtown area — just slightly too far to be walkable. Hence the one star deduction. However, once we got inside the lobby area, my fears were allayed. The inside so spit-spot clean even Mary Poppins would be proud. Also, thanks to the Southern gentleman who doubled as our concierge, we got checked in, got information about all the tours they offer, and felt right at home within minutes. Now I think that experience embodied southern hospitality in a hotel and one can’t ask for more, especially not at the price!($ 89 + taxes) Once we got into our room with 2 queen beds, which were unbelievably spacious, I took a look around, and just felt good about our hotel choice. The room was so crisp and clean, if I hadn’t known better, I’d have thought we were staying at a friend’s guest room. Moving onto the bathroom: clean clean clean AND they give you name-brand toiletries like pantene pro-v shampoo and conditioner. The mouthwash wasn’t scope though — it was a pretty nasty alternative. I’d avoid it. Pros: free wifi, free printing in the business center, clean, good customer service, SHOWTIME(yes a premium channel!) for free Cons: a little farther from downtown(location is a little misleading)

Overall great VALUE for what we paid(as the other hotels in the historic district were about $ 100 more) and how easy it was to get to the city center. Pretty good hotel, I thought it might be walking distance to the historic district but that wasn’t the case. They did provide a free trolly that goes back and forth from 8am-8pm which was great for getting downtown; then at night we paid $ 5 per person to get back. Free Wi-Fi and free parking and helpful staff. Rooms were pretty good and they didn’t feel dirty to me or my girlfriend(not 4 – 5 star clean but far far from cheap motel)

MEH is right. To be honest, the photos of this place look a lot better than it is in person… it’s not in a great area, but only a quick drive(5 minutes, not bad) to downtown. The hotel lobby is nice, the ample parking lot is convenient, and the staff is for the most part helpful and friendly. We did run into a few issues however. We called a month prioir to arrival to request adjoining rooms — 6 girls sharing 2 rooms. We were told this would be no problem. We also arrived early on the day of, approx 11am, and again were told that our ajoining rooms were all set, easy peasy. Our rooms were not clean yet, which was fine, check in is at 3pm, so we checked our bags, and went on our merry way, downtown to check it out. We came at 6:30pm, however, to our dismay, our rooms were no longer adjoining and the front desk person knew nothing about it in the system. It took another 30 minutes for her to dig up another pair of rooms that were adjoining, but to our luck, one of the rooms was STILLNOTCLEAN… at by this point 7pm!(We later found out that this was a nightly occurrence — we woudl return to our rooms at 5 or 6 pm to find our rooms had no towels and that they weren’t clean or available yet). We were kinda pissed, because we’re a group of 6 girls, and you know how freakin long it takes for 6 girls to each shower, and get ready… needless to say, we didn’t leave until 9:30 for dinner and to begin our first night of fun in Charleston. Bummer… but we made the most of it. To be true, you probably get what you pay for. We paid slightly under $ 100/night at this place through a package deal at Expedia… and you get what you pay for. We also were unsure about the cleanliness of our rooms. When we arrived, there was a used bar of soap still sitting on the sink in one of our bathrooms… and bread crumbs on the mattress… gross. We raised a stink both to housekeeping and management, and they gave us some excuses but eventually acknowledged the issue. All in all, the location is centrally located so you can drive to the islands or downtown very easily, and the hotel was for the most part satisfactory. We were ok to stay here because the price was right, and we reasoned that we wouldn’t be spending much time in the room anyways. If you’re on a budget and don’t mind being downtown and some squeeky management issues, then this place is for you.
