I’ll start by saying that I’ve been wanting to try this place for a couple of years now since seeing Adam Richman chow down on Man vs. Food. Atmosphere — well it’s certainly a lot different when you go in the offseason when students are out of school. The place was empty if not for myself and my girlfriend having just walked in. It’s on the main strip of UNC so we weren’t expecting the fanciest joint and it certainly was not. Food — All that really matters is the food when it comes to an establishment like this. The prices were semi-student friendly and certainly worth it in the end for what turned out to be the best Chicken Biscuit I’ve ever had. There’s nothing really special about it and I think that’s what makes it work so well. Simple ingredients: Biscuit, fried chicken and cheddar cheese. Somehow it had just enough character to set it apart from other biscuits I’ve had. I tried a small cinnamon roll as well and it was pretty delicious also. Didn’t try any sides since we were just there for the biscuit. It’s not something I would eat on a daily basis, but I can see why this is a Tar Heel tradition on game days.

This is a restaurant I have eaten at probably 30 times since it opened in 1978, and I have never had a bad meal, a bad experience here. Admittedly, in that time frame I’ve never been here in the late hours of the evening when the«had too much to drink» crowd is stumbling in and out. This is bare bones(paper plates and plastic forks), cafeteria style country cooking with a special appeal — a huge, cat’s head Chicken ‘N Cheddar Biscuit. But IMO it is more than that — for example, the Fried Chicken is excellent, better than that served up at the newer, never as good Mama Dip’s, at a cheaper price, and served with much less attitude, and the Pork BBQ is solid. They’ll offer 3 or 4 entrees daily, with Fried Chicken and Pork BBQ as constants, along with mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, Lima beans, etc., and of course their huge, very tasty biscuits. The chicken can be purchased by the piece, and with a biscuit this can be a meal in itself, as is the Chicken ‘N Cheddar Biscuit — one of the North Carolina«sandwiches» everyone should try, at least once. We settled on the 3 piece fried Wing plate with Turnip Greens and M&C along with Cornbread, and Pork BBQ with Mashed Potatoes & Gravy, and Lima Beans, with a biscuit. The chicken was perfectly cooked, with great flavor and a very nice crust. The Pork BBQ here is surprisingly good, moist and tender, with a slight smokiness. The M&C, the Turnip Greens, and the Lima Beans were very good, but the Mashed Potatoes were just ok, obviously not«real» mashed potatoes. The cornbread is sweet, so of course Alice loved it, and the biscuit was as good as ever. The«new» location(where Hector’s was located for years) is nice, a bit bigger, bright and clean. No frills here, just solid Southern fare.

Drunk food is about what this place is really all about. Boasting a giant banner of Adam Richman from Man vs Food with their signature sandwich. Yea, that right there would definitely make you wanna buy that set up. So I did their combo. I think it was around $ 9 for the sandwich and an order of their world famous macaroni and cheese. Just because you’re open 24⁄7 you get an extra star. But I’m definitely not loving the sandwich… to anybody who’s gonna come and try these jobbies, make sure you ask for hotsauce or better yet, bring one yourself. Same goes for their macaroni and cheese. Very bland for some reason. Bottom line is, we probably didn’t come in drunk enough. You know, that state where anything you put in your mouth tastes very good. Anyways, the service was pretty good. The guy behind the food counter was pretty friendly and very engaging. It’s not a bad shop to eat at, the other food on display looked pretty good, I’d like to take those for a spin next time.

Good food, horrible service. Called to complain about something that was left out of my pick-up order. Guy picked up the phone, said he wouldn’t send a driver out, and proceeded to hang up the phone on me. I wasn’t all that mad about forgetting something in my order because it was insignificant, but what really irritated me was that he hung up on me as if I was insignificant. Your business is only open because customers pay for your service. Don’t treat us like trash because of your mistakes.

Came here around 1AM after a night out. My friend really wanted to try this place. The food was OK. My friend ordered the Chicken N’Cheddar Biscut and I got the Pancakes. The Pancakes were huge compared to the hotcakes from McDs. Although they aren’t as fluffy as the ones from McDs. When I was chewing, it felt like the pancakes were a bit undercooked. The tables weren’t that clean. The guy at the register, which I’m assuming is the owner, was courteous. I might come back if I was drunk just to experience it that way but I was DD that night so as a sober person I would not be back.

They’re food is pretty good but it’s their customer service that needs help. I went there for dinner and had the most unhelpful and clueless employee helping me and he was the only one working in the store at that time.

It’s definitely caters to the college that’s ok. I saw this place on man vs food and vowed to go here. My main purpose was the chicken and cheddar biscuit. I placed my order(man vs food special) chk, chdr biscuit w/Mac and drink 9.99. When the guy began making my food he put on no gloves, just picking up my biscuit and cheese with his bare hands and started making my biscuit. I immediately told him to restart my food with gloves(that is a BIGNO-NO for me) Hint: If you would think I was crazy if I came and licked your hand out of nowhere why would you think it’s ok to just touch food I’m about to eat with your bare hands? There wasn’t any hand washing involved to justify it. Anyway once we got pass that, got the food to go. OMG!!! That sandwich was delicious!!! Tasted like chicken was brined. It was seasoned and cooked perfect. Wow this is what they have to eat at 3am drunk, after partying… Lucky them. Sandwich delicious!!! I’m giving a 4 for the food!!! Even though that sandwich was a 5!!! Mac was ok. Staff and customer service 2 at best. Wear gloves to make food please. That chicken biscuit was the best food we had on the whole trip!!!

Great late night place, don’t know if I’d come here fully sober, but I think that’s the point of the place. The cheddar biscuit sandwich is the best. It just hits the spot after a late night on Franklin St. The place is open very late, so keep it in mind if you need a late night place in Chapel Hill!

Old gray haired man is a racist and asked me where I was from mentioning how I don’t have an accent. Uhm, excuse me? Then when I go in 10 mins later to use the restroom, he calls us out as if we never bought food but we did. If you can’t realize I was a previous customer that same night within a 1 hour period, pls stop working. Thanks

Being from CO I’ve never even heard of chicken and biscuits until my UNC alumni husband directed me towards this flakey, thick breasted, cheesy chunk of heaven!!! I wish the coffe was a tiny bit better, but let’s be honest. It’s not the coffee that keeps the masses coming back. If I had a never ending stomach I would’ve had many more! The cinnamon rolls were in the small side but darn it if I wouldn’t come back to UNC just for those chicken and biscuits! I think it is genius they are open 24 hours. I can picture a large herd of ravenous drunk students wrapped around the block, for good reason. Yummy!!!

Visited on a Sunday around noon. Super nice new location, big and roomy inside. The chicken cheddar biscuit is to die for. Truthfully it’s the biscuit I’m in love with. It’s amazingly light and fluffy and buttery. The chicken is juicy but not greasy and is a good partner to the biscuit. Everything we had was good. Service was quick and friendly. Overall a great experience.

Sad to say that much better chicken and coleslaw can be found at the super market. Even the iced tea was not good. The overnight waiting left-over chicken was disappointing and not fresh. Nothing impressed us. The whole meal reminded me of a gas station food counter, but maybe not even as good… This restaurant needs a time out to clean up literally, and also to dramatically improve the food and service quality… If you’re sober and looking for a great meal, I suggest looking elsewhere.

Bad BADHORRIBLEWORST Service EVER. The MOSTUNHELPFULEMPLOYEEEVER. Employee LAUGHEDATHOWUNHELPFULHEWAS. BADSERVICE. UNHELPFULEMPLOYEE. WORSTEVER. LAME-SAUCE. HEMADEFUNOFMETOHISCO-WORKERFORASKINGFOR A RECEIPT. I GIVETHEM1BLACKSTAR. Do NOT go here if you want friendly helpful service. If you want someone who doesn’t care about helping you and someone who has ZEROINTEREST in being at work here, then this place is for you. I came in late and ordered some food to go. I paid and as I was still standing there at be register, then I made the horrible mistake and I asked for a Receipt. The worst restaurant worker ever, then told me NO because he would have to re-ring up everything to print out a receipt. So I stood there talking to him trying to figure out I can get a receipt for the Food I just paid for. He said I could take a picture of the menu.(Wow! What a brilliant idea, not sure why I didn’t think of that! Oh wait, it’s because it was the smartest idea ever, next to the invention of forks.) Then he proceeded to ring up 5 or 6 Fraternity Brothers after telling me to hold on. My new LEASTFAVORITE restaurant employee then annoyingly got me a menu. The Menu was printed just before they opened their doors 25 years ago, but thankfully it’s laminated and the Restaurant’s only copy. I asked if he could write down the prices for me and give me a total for a handwritten receipt. After waiting for ‘token late night restaurant worker’ to help everyone in line, said ‘token late night restaurant worker’ finally gets me a piece of Blank Receipt Paper and a Pencil. ‘Token late night restaurant worker’ then goes down to the other end of the service line to avoid having to look at me any longer or God Forbid, have to help me any further! This made for the MOST awkward(at best) SERVICE that I have EVERHAD. I can hear the ‘Token late night restaurant worker’ talking to his co-worker about how he didn’t want to help me with my stupid request for a receipt, then laughed and was making comments as I left, as if I was an idiot for asking for a simple receipt. He laughed as he told the other employee how he gave me a blank piece of paper, a broken pencil, and the menu, then walked away as I stood there writing down the prices. Now this isn’t difficult, I get it, but his attitude and condescending nature is what got me. Zero help from him, then he was annoyed and then he laughed at how unhelpful he was. So if that’s your style, go here. Imagine if I really needed him to help correct something with an order. His answer would be NO, can’t do it. Then he’d laugh at how unhelpful he was. Awesome. Go here to be made fun of. Or you can go to DICKS cause that’s their thing too.

It’s nice that this place opens 24hrs but I was disappointed in their chicken biscuit. The portion was great, you pretty much get a chicken breast in a biscuit and the biscuit was moist but the whole thing was bland. I could probably do the same thing at bojangles of taking a chicken breast and putting it in a biscuit. That being said, I would only come here if bojangles was not open.

Ehhhh… Not quite sure what all of the MVF hype was about. Aside from being a 24⁄7 college hangover soak-up spot, I’m failing to see the attraction. Tables and floors were dirty as hell, and considering our afternoon pre-lunch timing, I question what the hired help was doing while all of three diners were partaking in southern fare. Obviously we tried the MVF Special(Cheddar Chicken Biscuit, Mac n Cheese, and a drink). The main staples weren’t without their short comings… The soft yet dry biscuit fell apart almost instantly. Were it not for the hardened cheddar cheese, I’d have asked for sausage gravy. Fried Chicken was decent, nice crunch and spice, but the delivery system failed almost instantly. Who am I to recommend such an institution enhance their recipe, but IMO I’d move towards a heartier biscuit and creamier cheese. Mac ‘n cheese was similarly an instant fail. I appreciated the effort, and their selection in cheese, but the overcooked steam-tray noodles fell apart immediately, and the whole Styrofoam contained was swimming in butter. The thought behind the dishes was there, but the execution was reminiscent of a high school cafeteria. Where’s the pride?!

Time-Out! Okay, I get this is a college town BUT you can clean the place up a little bit people. The tables have grime on them, the floors need a really good clean & the bathrooms need help. Oh, I can’t forget to mention the walk to the bathroom, which is just as sticky & unclean as the front of the house. We shared the chicken and cheddar biscuit with a side of Mac and cheese. The only thing saving these people from one star is the mac. The chicken biscuit was dry, the cheese wasn’t melted & it was pretty bland. The mac and cheese was nice and buttery & flavorful. It’s what you expect from a southern restaurant. If I venture to NC again. It will not make my list. Gross.

A Chapel Hill landmark, mainly due to the fact that Roy Williams eats here and their chicken cheddar biscuits have been featured on Man vs. Food. But let me tell you. Those chicken cheddar biscuits are GOOD. and they are massive. Do not expect to eat anything else if you order one. They’re also open 24⁄7 and are *conveniently* located on top of a bar(Deep End bar is right underneath), so there’s always a 2am drunken rush for food at this place. Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of any of the other food. It’s good if you want some quick soul food, but it’s not top notch quality. All the dishes seem lukewarm and not very appetizing. The food is kinda greasy as well. But the fried chicken(which is on the chicken cheddar biscuit) is DELICIOUS. That’s one that’s worth the grease. Giving this place 3 stars because the interior isn’t impressive and some items aren’t that great, but the chicken cheddar biscuits are phenomenal. Deserves a spot on your food radar.

Dine or Ditch? Dine… During a full time out. This place caught my eye a few years back when I saw it on Man Vs. Food. I’ve been eyeing the chicken and cheddar biscuit like no other. This past weekend I had the joy of finally experiencing it and I would say it was about 90% as good as I dreamed it would be… which is pretty insane. The biscuit was crazy good(clearly contains lots of butter, which I discovered is the norm in the south), and the cheese and chicken blended together quite well. If you get the Man Vs. Food special you also get a side of mac and cheese and that was also pretty outstanding. It could have used a bit more flavor(maybe an additional cheese or spice), but still really, really good as a side. I will also note that this was a TON of food. Obviously its all carbs, but I left ready for a food coma. Make sure you have a bed handy for when you are done eating. Also, of note it was odd that they offer a coupon here on Unilocal, but the guy working the register refused to honor it. I’m not sure he fully understood, but management should make him aware if they are offering deals to customers coming in. It didn’t really hinder my enjoyment, I just think it’s weird to offer a deal and not realize it or pass that information along to employees who should be advised on the situation.

Right on the UNC campus on famous Franklin St. This is a fantastic dive for breakfast! They are known for their chicken and cheese biscuit. And I know why! It’s huge, with a large deep fried slab of chicken breast laying across a homemade biscuit! It’s delicious and really tender. This is a famous spot among Carolina fans, as you’ll see tons of photos of all the Carolina celebrities that have frequented the place. From Jordan, Dean, Worthy, Ford, and others. Being a Wake fan, I can appreciate this as well. Adam Richman aka Man vs Food has been here and filmed. Cool place with great chicken biscuits!

Time-Out is a good breakfast spot. Nothing too fancy, just regular breakfast food at a reasonable price. I first came here with drunk friends who wanted their chicken & cheese biscuit. I didn’t get one(vegetarian), I just got a regular cheese biscuit, which was good. I came a couple of times after that, one time getting their mac and cheese, which wasn’t too great(way too buttery, oily and lacked flavor). Most recently, I came with a friend who was visiting from overseas and thought it would be a good place since we were walking through Franklin and kind of in a hurry. I got pancakes and eggs and he got waffles, bacon and eggs, which were all good, but nothing too special. Very average. As the three-star rating suggests: A-OK.

This place is on the campus of North Carolina university. I saw it was on tv man vs. food. It was ok. I didn’t think it was the best ever. I ordered the chicken biscuit with a Mac & cheese & a drunk for $ 10. It was a breast cut in half on a large biscuit. I had to add hot sauce for a bit of flavor. The Mac & cheese lacked flavor. I had to add seasoning. The nice thing is it’s open 24hrs. It was enough for 2 meals. That’s always good. The food wasn’t bad but I’m not dying to go back. I would probably if nothing else was open.

We flew into RDU early on New Year’s Day and found ourselves here in search of breakfast that was actually open. It’s like a southern Hoagie Haven for those in the know. The staff was friendly and warm. I got a country fried steak biscuit with egg, and Heather got an omelette plate. The staff was worried I didn’t know what a «country fried steak» was, which was cute. The biscuit was lovely – moist, buttery and very, very large. The chicken fried steak was as tender as you could ask, yet crispy on the outside. It was easily enough for two meals, and at $ 3.99 for the steak($ 1 extra for the egg), it was a really great deal. Heather’s omelette was also a very generous meal. She asked for a western omelette plate without the meat, so they only charged her for a cheese omelette. Again, the portion was incredible, and they didn’t spare the toppings. She said the cole slaw was very good, and agreed that the biscuit was wonderful. In all, we paid about $ 13 for two meals each. We dinged a star because the bathrooms were pretty bad – I’ll spare you the details.
