Chowking

I crave Filipino food and there’s not many choices in Los Angeles compared to Manila. Go figure.
So I’ve had the «rice porridge» (arroz caldo), taho, and halo halo from here.
The rice porridge was saaaaalty. I’ll never order that from them again.
The taho came with normal sized boba. In the Philippines, it always came with little sago pearls. They had the taste, it just wasn’t the same as in the Philippines.
Halo halo was okay. Better than the Philippines Chowking’s quality but the bright neon colors in the halo halo ingredients were not appealing as the purpose of the color was made to be.
The quality is better at American Chowking than at Philippines Chowking and should be because it’s more expensive than Philippines Chowking.

just ordered my food right now and they don’t have costumers that much but the service is toooo slow!!! and the cashier is rude!!! i wanted to change my soda to a diff drink and she said to me «kakasabi ko lang na hindi pwede diba kasi there will be additional charge» and i was like ok just give me pepsi. I’m pissed off but i love chowking but the service is not good.

Craving a nice cold dessert?!? Halo Halo is the best choice. My taste buds are having a party!!!

I love coming here because of the yummy food and they have Halo-​Halo! Also the cashiers are very nice Ate Lina and Tin-​Tin who is always very cheerful! Always makes you feel welcome.

Just like jollibee… Restaurant with no food! Dont go here 1 hour before closing… might as well close an hour early…30 min wait for fried rice and siomai lmao! Your management is a joke!

I ordered one with the tapa and I requested for my egg to be cooked well done because I am pregnant the cashier replied to me n said they use a machine to make the egg (idk n idc about what futuristic machine they use to cook an egg as long as it’s well done.) When my order first came out it didn’t have the egg in it so I let the cashier know and kindly repeated myself if I can have it well done. I patiently waited for about 30 minutes for this gourmet food but the egg was still not cooked all the way through.
Anyways, I am home now. I finished cooking the damn egg. Smh

Wow, this location is kinda blah. Wanted to try something new from my lunch régime, so I hit up this spot as I’ve had good experiences with Chow Kings before. Ordered the Beef Won Ton soup. It was fairly tasty, but the portion was like a Cup-​of-​Soup. For $ 7, it looked like a $ 2 meal.
If you want value, this place ain’t it. You’ll have to pay at least 10 bucks to get a decent filling meal.
Oh yeah, good luck finding a spec of customer service. They are obviously on vacation.

Not worth it. I ordered lomi and it was bleh… Bland… They put so much fried garlic that the soup tasted like fried garlic soup. Lol. $ 5 for a small bowl not worth it.
I also got asado siopao which is ok.

The service is horrible. And the wait time is even more horrible. More than 15 minutes for a chowfan order and to think there wasn’t even a line. Very disappointing.

It’s cheap but still not with it. The milk tea took ten mins to make and it was almost all ice. $ 2.70 for maybe 4oz of milk tea? Pass.

Decided to eat her after finding out Goldilocks was gona close soon. Picked the sweet & sour pork, chow mein, fried rice, shangai platter. The pork and fried rice were good, Shanghai/​chow mein were eh.

In Hawaii, we just got a Seafood City in 2014 and Jollibee locations have been opening up a few years before that. The one thing we’re stilling missing that could complete the circle of Pinoy chain restaurants is Chowking. After three days of eating burgers and fries, I told my husband we need to eat Filipino food stat or else my veins will collapse or my blood runs dry. I need white rice ASAP. Luckily I remembered to Unilocal where’s the nearest place to find Filipino food and I saw Chowking. I told my husband we gotta try this place since we don’t have one in Hawaii. I thought it was a stand alone restaurant, but it was located inside the Seafood City store kitty corner to Grill City. My husband ordered the beef won ton. I ordered the Breakfast Chow with fried rice, egg, tocino pork and fried bangus fish. Since we were ordering on empty stomachs, we also split a pork siopao and four pieces of shumai. We inhaled all of it and I felt back to normal. On a personal note, I know Hawaii is all about the manapua, but the siopao at Chowking had less bun so I could get to the meaty middle quicker so I will be a traitor to my birthplace and say that Chowking siopao is way better than the typical Hawaii manapua. As soon as I posted a pic of our Chowking meal on Facebook, friends started posting comments saying that we need a Chowking in Hawaii. I totally agree.

Ordered take out for beef wonton noodle soup and waited for about 15 – 20 minutes. As soon as I got home and started eating, I discovered 2 eyelash/​eyebrow hairs in the soup base! This is the most unsanitary experience I’ve had at Chowking… it made me lose my appetite. Need to file a complaint to the Department of Health and Environmental Control for inspection. Just want to warn others in advance.

This is a famous filipino fast food chain, its just so bad that its a slow food chain… I ordered their chow fan and it took 20 minutes of waiting… Too bad… And to make it worst the foods is not that great… No wonder why filipino food chain doesnt click with other races… Poor service n bad taste…

This place use to be great!!! I don’t know if the management changed or what? It’s just terrible from the portion to the langonisa that they use it sucks. I don’t recommend this place to anyone.

On the go mommies will be thankful for the bulk bags of frozen siopao.
I got the Chinese style fried chicken and it’s like hello Sunshine! Whoever that life sized poster of a Filipina celebrity pretending to take a bite and enjoying nailed it — delicious — crunchy! It took ten minutes waiting but was worth it.
Just don’t have it everyday, I think your heart and arteries will be grateful.
Am less ecstatic about their Halo-​Halo — just not enough beans and sweet Coconut gel, no langka or banana, served with ube ice cream though and leche flan.

Terrible!
I keep coming back here and each time I come it gets worst.
I primarily come here for the Arroz Caldo (Filipino Congee). Well, they don’t have that anymore. Replace with a straight up Congee, that does not taste very good.
I’ve tried the Lomi which is okay
Lumpiang Shanghai with is also okay.
The Beef and Wanton is not good at all.
But the kicker for me was when I ordered the Soy Chixken. On paper it looks so good. I tried to order it a couple of times before and they didn’t have it each time. On my last visit they finally had it. Yay. I heard the cashier ask the cook if they had any. I heard the cook mumble something back to the cashier. Uh-​oh.
When I got home it looked good. I taste the fried rice it came with and it was cold. Wth?
I cut the leg and thigh to split it with the Wifey. It was RAW. WTH!!!
That’s the last straw.
I’ve really tried to come back again and again in the hopes that they would have something good I can eat. Sadly, everything here is average at best and it’s rarely that.
You’ve lost this customer for good.
One Star, should be ZERO.

So, there are only 2 items that I typically get here that would fit my budget and feed a family.
LUMPIA
SIOPAO
These are probably my two ultimate favorites at Chow King. They give you a lot of egg rolls for less than $ 6. It’s enough to make your Lola happy! ;) As for the other food items, I’d probably just go for the halo halo or taho. Not too much of a fan for their main dishes, but the ones I mentioned are pretty darn good!

Let me begin this review by saying that any Filipino restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch on a Sunday is bound to be crazy. This Chowking in particular is always very busy on weekends, especially on a Sunday morning.
The place itself could be cleaner. It’s partly the customers’ fault for making the place dirty, but Chowking should also take initiative to clean up after their guests. This is the reason I took my food to go.
The food itself is a bit pricey for what it is. I dine at FIlipino restaurants often enough to know how much FIlipino breakfast should cost.
$ 6.99 for some fatty cut of tocino, a small piece of bangus (milk fish), one egg and one scoop of garlic rice is expensive.
Elsewhere, like DJs Bibingkahan, that exact thing would cost $ 5.99 with much bigger servings, more rice, and two eggs w/​free coffee.
What I DO recommend here is the Arroz Caldo. I love Filipino Arroz Caldo and they make it good here. Ask for extra garlic bits if you can. Add some soy sauce and lemon juice and voila.

Filipinos have a lot of pride…
Pried fish, pried eggrolls, pried turon…
But, probably the most beloved of all is pried chicken.
I find the fried chicken here to be delicious. Chowking only serves dark meat (legs & thighs) but it’s fried to a crispy golden brown & served with awesome mushroom gravy. On Tuesdays & for a limited time, there is the Triple Treat deal which consists of 6 pieces chicken, fried rice and pancit for $ 12.99. It’s a lot of food, and depending on how many people ordered it, can take 10 min+ for it be ready. It’s worth it, though. IMHO, much better than the KFC crap they call chicken.
The other dishes aren’t very remarkable. The soups can range from okay to dishwater. The rice combos are usually small in portions.
Breakfast is served all day. Tocino, longanisa, bangus-​all with fried egg.
Nothing starts your day off better than a shot o’ cholesterol.
The desserts, such as halo halo & taho, are good. Chowking also offers thai tea, mango smoothies and other sugar-​laden wonders.
There is plentiful seating & is usually clean.
Just go for the chicken!
