Swimming pool, gymnasium, basketball courts, tennis courts, soccer field, baseball diamonds, etc… what’s not to love! It’s open on all entry points from Bloomfield or 195th street in Cerritos. Which also means you can walk around and work out to your heart’s content pretty much at all hours. Be aware of West Nile virus warnings during the summer though, especially after dusk. A man-made lake is in the center of the Regional Park complex. It is stocked for fishing(license required).(I saw at least three persons fishing at night!) The most wildlife I’ve encountered are persistent ducks and the occasional squirrel, but I’ve heard of coyote sightings.

A highly underrated, yet highly used complex by many baseball, football, and soccer associations, the Cerritos Sports Complex remains a local gem. I had a great time playing baseball here this afternoon, as did my friends. We could not have been happier with the process, size, cleanliness, and set up of the place. The complex is built upon an old landfill, and connected to the county’s Cerritos Regional Park. You’ll note inconspicuous methane vents near the fields and on the outskirts, to release any gases that may be present from many years ago. How did I know this? I used to work here in high school. Chalking mounds, painting field end lines, moving posts, and checking out equipment — yep, that was my job for a few summers. The complex has about six areas, of which five are baseball/softball fields and six are soccer/football fields. Their grass couldn’t be greener and more lush, which is something many LA residents can come to appreciate when they come on down here. The city prides itself upon many of their parks, and this being a city that has many well-to-do residents, they expect no less for their kids and themselves. Allocated groups such as AYSO who regularly use these fields for soccer, have priority on picking and booking fields. Residents have the next priority, but must establish themselves in the system, which can be done through any park and two supporting documents of residency. Finally, non-residents have the last priority. Residents can book parks at $ 16/hour, with a maximum of 1.5 hours per resident. While I personally think the city could charge its residents less for using facilities through reallocation of funds, I still had a good time playing ball with friends this past weekend. Play ball!
