Puerto Rican awesomeness. Finally something other than fried chicken in this area. I love the dark meat with pyo pyo or whatever it is called and pineapple rum sauce, that stuff is banging. Haven’t tried there yucca fries yet but they look good. The waffle fries are nothing to write home about. But the chicken is really good. Now where’s the mufungo at? Quick update, I want to keep loving this place so if you read this please starting getting your orders right. I’ve been three times in the drive thru for lunch and dinner. So figure out a better system please and thank you.

My first experience here was not a great one. Packed parking lot with people driving crazy. The inside is nice and bright with tropical music playing(if thats your thing). Anyhoo, line wait time was not long and I bought the family chicken dinner with black beans and brown rice; I paid with a coupon so it was 10.99. After I had paid and after the cashier was about to hand me my change, he and another employee decides to tell me a game changer. An «Oh by the way, we are out of chicken and the wait time is going to be 20 minutes.» This is not a traditional sit down and eat restaurant. If I wanted to wait 20 minutes for food I would have went out to eat and had proper waiter service. If my mother had not wanted this, and if I hadn’t already paid, we would have went out to a restaurant. The chicken flavor is nice but the family«servings» are a joke. This will not feed a hungry family of 4 imho. The rice tastes like Uncle Bens 90sec instant pouch rice. The black beans are ok. Check your orders before you leave because they forgot my bread. If it wasnt cold and rainy and a pain to go back, then I would go back to get it but I won’t be going there to eat again

My wife and I went here to try it out and we were not disappointed. We had never heard of or been to a Pollo Tropical before. We initially assumed that this was a Mexican restaurant with perhaps a tropical twist to it. We were wrong. This is a tropical, almost Caribbean-style restaurant. It’s carved its own niche into the DFW landscape. Pollo Tropical offers the typical meat, beans, veggies, and rice combination that you find at your neighborhood Chipotle or Freebirds, but those elements are highlighted with an infusion of tropical flavors. The restaurant was exceptionally clean and tidy. While we were there, I noted multiple employees taking trash from customers and sweeping the floors. The only problem we had was that we ordered a regular bowl for my wife and they placed the order as a small. However, when the food came(which it did within 10 minutes of ordering) and we informed them that we ordered a regular, they promptly made a second bowl for my wife to compensate for the error. Great customer service! In all, this will be a regular stop for us! Take a look at the photos attached to this review for a better idea of what’s available here. Side note: my wife and I typically enjoy one regular-sized entrée each at restaurants. At the end of our visit, we both commented that we should have only ordered one small bowl for each of us. The regular bowl fills you up quick.

Not a fan. I’ve given it 3 tries. Horrible all 3. Chicken was undercooked & bland. Yuca was way over cooked & stale. Corn tasted like soap. The only thing that was decent was the plantain bananas. Boo.

Dinner date with the hubby, we decided to try out this place since it has been open for about a month. We were disappointed! Chicken tasted like Costco rotisserie chicken. Rice was over cooked and sticky. Dinner rolls were dry and hard. Customer service was good but food was poor. If u want grilled chicken go to Pollo Regio instead !

After hearing all the rave, I tried it. I personally thought that the mac and cheese wasn’t cheesy, the corn soufflé didn’t really have any corn in it and the chicken without all of the sauce is just rotisserie chicken. I gave it 3 stars because I’ve actually gone twice but the 2nd time just got the chicken and all the sauces

It was ok. But small portions of the food not very satisfied with the calypso beef plate beef was extremely greasy the bread was hard like if left out over night. Don’t think I will come back.

I’m only giving them two stars because the plantains were decent. I ordered a chicken quesadilla combo with black beans and a side order of plantains. First off the quesadilla was was almost like a small wrapped up burrito and I literally got a spoon of black beans in a container. I can get more food in a kids meals at other places then what I got. To top it off the quesadilla still had flour dough on it ITWASNTEVENCOOKED. I was excited about trying this place and it was a serious let down.

I paid almost $ 25 for two tropichop meals and two tropical breeze drinks. To start, they gave me what seemed to be a kids drink, each costing nearly $ 3. It was a good drink but I was done with it within a minute from leaving. The platter was huge and looked good but like had absolutely not flavor whatsoever. The person working at the drive thru hardly gave me the time of day. It was our first and last time there. Add some salt, seasoning, SOMETHING to the food. It’s so bland. And for gods sakes, $ 3…give me a larger cup. Can’t really expect anything to really change considering most Tex mex food is bland. Oh well.

Went into restaurant for first time on Monday. Restaurant was clean and bright. Ordered the citrus chicken salad on the lite menu and son ordered classic chicken sandwich with fries for dine-in. Food came out fresh and hot. Chicken was very flavorful. The staff was attentive and the manager came by to check on each guest’s dining experience. Ordered ¼ chicken with rice and beans for hubby(it was a hit)! Food was so good we came back tonight and I had the TropiChop Lite and my hubby had the chicken combo again. This time we tried the different sauces and that kicked it up a notch. I know the initial reviews were mixed but I truly enjoyed the food and the pricing is very economical for the portions. Give it a try!

I finally decided to try this place. What a disappointment. The chicken pieces are very small. It was okay, but nothing great. The side was bad. I had the Caribbean Corn Soufflé. Not really sure what made it Caribbean… it was dry and basically a corn casserole. I think they get their rolls from the day old bread rack. The service was fast, but I won’t be back. I’ll keep going to Pollo Regio… they’re a 100 times better

What did I just eat? I am so disappointed! I can’t tell what’s more offensive– the blandness or the fact that the beans taste like they came from a can. Also, is this minute rice? BOOOOO! I’ll stick to Pollo Regio. I’m seriously dumbfounded by the long lines. Is it the dry rolls or the wilted salad that tickles people’s fancy? I don’t get it and I don’t want to. The only thing I can give them is that the chicken is definitely moist. And for the record, I get that this place is not Mexican. Don’t care. Bland is bland and dry is dry. There’s no excuse.

This place was a bit of a letdown. I ordered 2 half chickens(&sides) and a chicken quesadilla salad. Green beans were bland, corn was pretty sweet, roll was sweet, mash & rice were decent. My chicken wings were burnt, the orange sauce is pretty tangy and good. Not as creamy as Raising Canes, but it’s probably healthier because of it.

I had the chicken breast with 2 sides: kernel corn and mashed potatoes with gravy. The chicken breast was tasty and juicy. The corn was delicious, I can’t describe the flavor. Delish all the way!

Love love love!!! Lunch date with the hubby and the place was packed but the service was quicker than a melting snowcone in hell! I selected the trio and had the chicken, beef and wings. The sides were mashed potatoes and corn soufflé with a side of plantains. All delicious and the favorites were in this order, wings with the pollo pollo salsa and curry mustard, corn soufflé, plantains, mashed potatoes, then the beef and the chicken. The chicken was a might greasy as was the beef. The flavor was excellent, especially with the salsas, they just completely set it off! I was so excited that I even considered going back for dinner!

I was pleasantly surprised with this place! My family is Cuban so I was a bit reluctant to go to a fast food style Caribbean restaurant. However, the food was good! The chicken is flavored so deliciously and the rice was cooked perfectly. Now of course my mom makes better black beans, but they were still pretty good compared to most other places. I also liked the bar inside with all the different sauces. My favorite was the cilantro garlic sauce. I also like the environment, how it is so bright and open. The only reason I gave this location 4 stars instead of 5 is because I overheard some of the employees talking badly about a customer and she said she would whoop his a**. However, this place is brand new and I’m sure they will weed out those type of employees. Especially because I had a nice experience with another employee. Overall, I recommend it!

The food is AWESOME! I ordered the half chicken, calypso beef(Amazing), mac & cheese, yuca fries, corn soufflé, plantain, yellow rice and finally the wings. I was so surprised when I everything I tasted was soooooo good. If you order the calypso chicken by itself it is $ 6.00 and it comes in small pieces in a small container. At first I told the young lady at the window that I wanted to return it, but then I decided to keep it. It was well worth the $ 6.00. You have to try this place. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Oh, I forgot to mention that I also had the mango/peach drink(super sweet and super good). All together was approx. $ 30.00 and worth every penny.

I love it the food is great. I always get the grilled wings and a tropichop. They are really good also they have waffle fries that are seasoned very well. I love the different sauces you can use. The pricing is sufficient for the food. I have been 4 or 5 times and they opened less than a week ago. Service is great as well.

For the first day opening we were pleasantly surprised. First time ever at Pollo Tropical and we loved it. Chicken was nicely seasoned and tender. Simply delicious! I used the pineapple rum sauce that complimented my chicken well. I’m picky about my mac n cheese and completely enjoyed theirs. If you like homemade mac, you will to. If your idea of mac n cheese is being orange and gooey skip it. The corn soufflé reminiscent of homestyle cornbread, but even more moist and fluffy, it’s the perfect side dish with your meal. Plantain portions were generous and our fave. This family loves Plantains. They have a Mango tea. Love it! We enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back. This family will be regulars for sure!
